Why isn't a kid's club offered at SSR?

When we went on our tour this fall before buying in, our kids stayed in the childcare area and had a great time. Even my almost 2 year old who is normally attached to my hip loved it and didn't want to leave when it was time to go! Yes, I know that normally the kids have to be age 4 and up and that would be fine. I realize that they use the child care area to help sell DVC, but why can't they offer it as a kids club at night? Even if they only did so certain nights of the week. Does anyone think when SSR "sells out" that they may start to use it in this way?
(BTW, Please don't suggest that we use babysitting services while staying there, I don't want to get into a big debate about this kind of thing but we're just not comfortable w/that idea. )

There probably would not be enough people using it. They closed the one at BW.

Yeah, I was surprised that they closed that one too. I don't know, are we the only ones that want a couple hours break from our 3 kids to go eat once during vacation? To me it would actually be a selling point to offer it at SSR.

I don't think kids clubs are offered at the DVC's that aren't attached to hotels. I guess they think there are enough kids clubs on property.:confused3

You are not alone. With the SPA and being so close to DTD I would think it would be pretty popular. I would definately make use of it.

Does OKW have a kids club? They are the only other DVC that is not attached to a hotel so they would make a proper benchmark for SSR.
VAKL will have one because AKL has one.

My plan is to use the one at VWL and go to dinner at AP. We have used these at other resorts(not WDW). The 10yr old hates these "kids club" setups, complains bitterly about the quality of the food :rotfl:. Younger one can't wait for you to leave and hates being picked up.

the only ones that have a kids club are VWL and BCV - but the kids club is in WL and BC. they are attached to the hotel not DVC.

BW lost their because of lack of use.

the MK resorts all have one and they are used. (well FW doesn't)

DVC has tried to be similar in its activities and offering to other timeshares. they don't offer a kids club - so at present DVC does not.

but hey if you really want one - tell your guide - lots and lots of time.

I think what bothers me about it is that the set up they have there at SSR is so wonderful that it's almost a shame not to offer it in this way to members...IMO. I mean OKW doesn't have those kind of facilities anyway so it's kind of a different situation.

OKW did - it got torn down with the sales building. right now they are leaving the sales at SSR - but they could decide to tear it down build more SSR buildings and make the sales people go back to Celebration....

at OKW there was also a very nice ice cream shop....

there are no guaranteeds.

The Homestead in Northern Michigan is a timeshare/DVC type set up and they have a kids club. Can send them for half day, all day and for dinner time. Didn't like the fixed weeks, though but if VB doesn't work out, we'll probably go there on cash for our "beach fix".

I wouldn't be either.

Also this is just another way that I think DVC Resorts are inferior to the Deluxe Hotels. Once again, if it wasn't for the big rooms/ extra bedrooms , I'd nevr be a DVC member.

Maybe they just want you in the parks???

Are you then suggesting that CR and BWI are "inferior" resorts - even though they are classified as Deluxe Hotels?

Let's not forget VB! They have one 3x per week along with some great activities though out the day.

I think it is a great idea and would add to the desination resort idea. The resort is certainly big enough. It seems like it is something they could trial run with little start up. Get some good CM's and a room (maybe a big screen TV too!) and see what type of response it gets over a few months.

Well inferior used that way seems a little harsh. No I'm not suggesting those two are inferior resorts. What I am suggesting is that the DVC Resorts simply offer less services than the Deluxe Resorts IMO. Less in the way of dining and child care really.

I don't think this is an unreasonbable statement given many like to compare DVC to Deluxe Resorts. Of course two attached resorts, VWL and BCV are the exceptions.

Why can't we have a GF like Resort with DVC rooms? I don't think it is to much to ask. This home away from home thing is fine but really I believe the Timeshare industry in general is moving that way. Just because we are Timesharers doesn't mean we want less than our Deluxe counterparts receive. Come on DVC go all out, multiple sit down restaurants, room service, valet parking, child care, good poolside grab food or sit down poolside dining, etc.

Took the words right out of my mouth-exactly what I was thinking.....

:yay:

If you feel the term is too harsh, then why did you use the term at all?

CR and BWI are Deluxe Resorts and do not provide some of the services you use to criticize DVC even though VWL and BCV do have access to those services not available at CR and BWI. I guess I don't understand the double standard applied to try to support the same critical rhetoric you've used numerous times here.

Part of the flexibility of DVC is our ability to use points at other resorts, even the GF is available if you desire. It's only a matter of your personal values and having enough points. If you want the amenities of the GF, that is an option for DVC members. The GF certainly has some exquisite rooms, but none are as large as some DVC villas and most do not offer many of the amenities commonly available in all DVC resorts.

Many have researched what DVC resorts offer prior to making such a major purchase and decided against if the resorts didn't meet their needs and expectations. However, all of the "suggestions" you mention above ARE available at DVC resorts. Again, I fail to understand the need to support the endless criticism with untrue statements.

Just because you choose to make the same comments again and again does NOT make them true.

Since you apparently have missed it, BWV, BCV, VWL and soon AKV are all combined with Deluxe resorts and guests at these DVC resorts all have access to the same amenities as their Deluxe counterparts.

For the record, BWV, BCV, VWL (and soon AKV) do have valet service, multiple "sit-down" restaurants, and room service. BCV, VWL (and soon AKV) all have child care. All DVC resorts have poolside "grab" food or sit down poolside dining. I realize that not all of these amenities will meet your obviously high standards, but to suggest that DVC resorts do not offer them is again blatantly incorrect.

I think they could use on in that area. You have "Kids Clubs" in the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom Area's. How about the Downtown Disney Area. I mean you have Port Orleans' Riverside, Port Orleans French Quarter, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs and Downtown Disney, where parents like to go without their kids. I would think a Kids Club in that area would be perfect!

I'm with you on this one Dumbo!

We have stayed in a timeshare(thought about buying) called Le Bear up in Northern MI. Absolutely beautifully done inside and out. A real live conceirge(sp). Give them a list of groceries you want(can be very specific on brands) and it's in the frig(sub zero) and pantry when you arrive, get you ressies in the local chi-chi resturants that book up(worked out well). Babysitting and kids activities.

Yes I would pay more for amenities. I find it funny when I check out WDW to see if the DVC's have cash rooms available, the site always recommends to me GF. Actually our first trip, DH wanted to stay there, but got hooked by the 2br villa that popped up for SSR. He'll go for extra room over luxury any day.
