Boardwalk View - ground floor, is it possible?

I have a feeling this is a really stupid question, but if you don't ask you never know!

I have booked a 1 bed Boardwalk view for next week (arriving on Saturday.) I've always been a bit nervous of the kids on balconys but as this week has progressedi am getting more and more nervous about the balcony and thinking I'd be much happier with a ground floor room, or just a window and no balcony.

Are there any boardwalk view rooms on the ground floor - I'm thinking not as the shops are all at ground level and the rooms are over the shops?

What about rooms without balconys? Is that an option?

My 9 year old will be fine, but I can just see the 4 year old pulling a chair upto the railing and while it may be irrational it is really making me paranoid.

The villas that were converted from the models are on the first floor, boardwalk level. They are separated from the boardwalk, you can't just walk into one from the boardwalk.

We kept all of our drapes closed last year, and I'm sure this year we will too, so that our DGC wouldn't realize there's an "outside."

I'm sure someone will tell you who you should call to get this last minute request in.

Bobbi:goodvibes

There are very few of them though, and your chances of one being available are almost zero.

You can move the patio chairs into the master bedroom closet - they are the cheap plastic easily moved chairs.

Just request "upper floor." ;) That's what we did and got the studio on the ground floor right next to the DVC Preview Center. We didn't have neighbors for 2 of the 3 nights we were there.

You too? BW CMs seem to delight in giving us the polar opposite of our requests. We've stopped requesting.

first 2 years at the BW i requested high floor and ended up in 2br on 2nd floor over Big River( prolly as low as it gets for 2br) this last July we finally got 3rd floor lol

lol! I agree! Our last trip I requested to be near Jellyrolls
and ended up the farthest room from there
that was still classified as a BW view.:rolleyes1

Hmm you must have the same luck with requests that I have. But one time I did book a standard view and put in no request and got a upper floor boardwalk view. I have no idea how that happened!:cloud9:

I'm really glad to hear this. I feel like such a scrooge when I answer all these "what location should I request for my standard view/preferred view/boardwalk view room?" with a variation of "don't get your hopes up." It isn't just that they don't like ME.

I firmly believe it is hinged on when you arrive for check in.
We are not ones with a long list of requests, but we will request a room location especially with SV at BWV. 99% of the times we get our requests because we always arrive before 11AM. The few times we have arrived in the afternoon/evening--we did not get our requests. I have always said it is first come first served with DVC requests. Many may disagree, but this has been our experiences in our years of many DVC visits.
Many times, we must wait for our room location request for anywhere from a couple hours to half the day. This does not really bother us though because we either go to the pool or into Epcot until our villa is ready.

In June we got to VWL at 8 am and got the very worst room. I did not throw a fit and took it. It was the worst experience of my DVC time and if it happens again I will refuse the room and if I have to lost the points so be it.

I never thought a bad room would ruin a vacation until that one. I doubt we will be back to VWL in a loooong while

We got one of our best rooms in June when all we requested was a non-smoking room. And we checked in on Jun 1 when the no smoking policy went into effect. Ultimately, we had no requests. I think that might be the key.

This was also exactly my request and we ended up on the other side of the elevators. Susan

Like other posters have said: I am afraid to ask!

We arrived bright and early (probably around 9:30 or 10 AM), mentioned I was having some trouble walking (tendonitis), and would like to be close to the elevator. CM says: "No problem! I have a great room for you!" :sad2: Oh yes, we were four villas away from the door that opens near the ESPN club.

What's the "worst room" at VWL?

I've only stayed at BWV once so far and I asked for a one bedroom that was on the top level. I had BWV reserved. Got the 5th floor, not too far from Jelly rolls. Great room!

I requested top floor at VWL and got the top floor there, too.

I think I'm getting spoiled. I hope I don't run into CMs giving me the "opposite" in December at BWV. I have two 2 bedroom villas reserved for a family gathering and I hope our boardwalk view is from an upper floor.

What's the "worst room" at VWL?

The infamous end of the hallway overlooking the garbage and laundry. Every morning at 4:30 you get awoken by the dumping of trash...I prefer the drunks on the boardwalk.

Just to update this story.

We checked in on 13 October, and we were assigned room 1001 - which is the only ground floor boardwalk view 1bedroom as far as I could tell. It was right next to the DVC showroom, and right at the end of the corridor, but it was very handy for the backdoor near the Swan and Dolphin and the view was brilliant.

I didn't request this, or mention it to WDW at anytime, so I don't know if Disney read theDis (and if they do, I don't know how they would match up theDis me, with the real me), or if there was pixie dust in the air that day - but I was thrilled with our room - we had a wonderful view, and I didn't have any balcony stresses, my kids could go out on the patio and I didn't have to worry at all.

It was magic.:wizard: And truly even though Disney does read the DIS, they would never be able to match you to your reservation or would they even try to.
