Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes - Part 6

Yeah everyone says your name is so pretty I am going to call you annastasia- but they always shorten it- Does the same thing happen to Josephine??

I'm going to get a sewing room!!!!!!

Henry is going to finish a bedroom in our basement to use as a guest bedroom. He bought the lumber and everything last week and has already started framing it in. Then, we're turning the guest bedroom into my SEWING ROOM!!!!!! Here's what the guest bedroom (otherwise known as Corey's room, sorry Corey) looks like right now:

Notice my 4 big totes full of fabric. Henry's grandma gave us the quilt (she made it) as a housewarming present.

That's Sawyer about ready to play with my new sewing machine- EEK!

It's pretty cramped at the moment and I don't have a sewing desk. So, I have to lug everything out to the kitchen counter and dining room table when I want to sew.

I'm so excited about it! I need to look over those links of organized sewing rooms that Laura (the_seamstress) posted a while back, to get some ideas.

Surrrrre! Rub it in!!!

J/K!!!! Happy for you! Love the quilt by the way :cloud9:
It's only cramped because of the girnormous bed. It'll be spacious when you do shelves and cupboards etc. It'll be fun to watch it come to be...so post every step of the way.

My craft room is framed-in in the basement. Sheetrock is expensive, so little by little it'll get done. I havve it pictured in my head....much like the_seamstress's :lovestruc . I want a scrapbook area and a general workshop area for whatever crafts I'm interested in at any given time.

After reading Heather's post about getting a sewing room..I am just wondering where do you do your sewing? I have no dedicated sewing room...and not really much space in the guest room to double as a sewing room, so right now I am using our formal dining room that hardly ever get any use at all. My sewing machine sits on the dining room table, along with the rest of my sewing stuffs. I also cut on the same table....I really need at least some kind of storage solutions so I can organize my sewing items/accessories.....it is quite a mess right now, unfortunately.

Dh knows that I lost my mind years ago :lmao: Seriously we have been together since 1987 and married since 1992. He is very supportive with all of my hobbies and never questions anything. He will even help where he can. I am equally supportive of his Street Rod obsession so it all works out. We as a family are addicted to Disney. All 3 boys have Disney Themed rooms and the kitchen is slowly becoming that way too. He loves the Mickey Lamp posts that I made (the directions for those are on that camping forum) and he was super impressed when I added the rope lights to make the Minnie version :thumbsup2 Then I came home with these bill ball lights at Christmas. His response was what are you cooking up now? Those turned into the Mickey Head string lights that we will hang on our camper awning. He enjoys all of the personalized touches.

I even caught him and another man in a conversation in the Judge's Tent at Toontown. They started discussing our matching t-shirts (we all wear matching T-shirts (and shorts lol) most every day of our trip. That turned into a gripe session about having to see every character every trip and the photos and autographs etc. Then DH whipped out my clipboard and huge bag of premade 8"X8" autograph pages. They were customized for each character and had my kids names on each page. He then proceeded to tell him that this was the best idea ever because now we could get the autograph and photo once then we wouldn't have to hunt them down the next trip. We will only add different/new characters on future trips. Needless to say the other man was hooked :rotfl2: I love the way the scapbook came out too. We have the signed autograph page on the right and I scrapped photos of the character interaction on the left page. Now we will do less character hunting, but have a great momento of all of our character interactions. The kids know that they can still see any character that they want and we will still take photos, but we won't be on such a mission.

Glad you asked huh?:goodvibes :rotfl:

Deb

I think I will do that scrapbook thing when we go again and the kids are older!!! We didn't do any character hunting:rotfl2: this last time- We had 5 character meals and we had them sign a white hat with a fabric pen. And we took pictures of course!!

I am in the basement with a craft table for my sewing machine, some folding tables to cut on, surrounded by my bins and scrapbook totes. I just got some smaller bins to put my different projects in so I don't lose all the different pieces. My sewing stuff has multiplied in the last few months since finding this thread- so beware and ready to be organized or drowned in fabric!!!- :rotfl2:

Hawaii and Disney in the same trip!!! :woohoo:
I think I will have to have help with settings for shirring but I really want to give that a try- I even bought elastic thread.

Once I got the thread to go through the tension guide on the bobbin (for me this meant I had to take off part of the cover to the machine and manually guide it through) it was easy. Before that I had done the tiny zigzag over the elastic but it just didn't look as tidy as I would have liked.

Yep it's a major trip for us - It is also a combined trip to celebrate my DH's 30th birthday (here's hoping I get to go somewhere nice for my 30th ;) )

It's also costing quite a bit but we have been saving since my youngest was born so we can go (so when we leave about 3years worth of saving).

We are hoping that we can do it regularly (when I say regularly I mean every 3 years or so) but our next plan will be to go to WDW :)

I'm such a disney fanatic (as she types wearing her eeyore pj's bought by her DH for xmas :rolleyes1 ) and my eldest DD is becoming the same (YAY).

You'll be hearing lots from me (I apologise in advance) as I'm so excited - I think about this trip everyday.

I am anxious to try shirring - I'll keep that tip in mind- Thanks
We look forward to seeing all your trip outfits!!!

Right now I sew on a small wobbly table that is set up next to my bed in the bedroom (the table wobbles because it fell out of the back of DH's truck when I was bringing it here.) Within the next week or so I will be getting a full size desk. I can't wait because I'm getting one that has shelves on it and I will be able to store my embroidery machine in the part where you would put the tower to a computer. It's not the usual kind of sewing table but I think it will be perfect because of the limited space in our apt.

Stephres,

Maybe I should make her a Hannah Montana coat? :rotfl:

Did you see the Black and Tan Dachshund on the front of the new Jo~Ann flyer? Very cute!

Ok.. I'm so excited about fabric lol. Can someone translate these terms for me as I think in the US the names mean different to what they do here.

Flannel: is this like pyjama fabric -soft brushed cotton stuff??
Fleece: ?? I'm not sure I'm guessing like polarfleece or microfleece - is it generally quite thick?
Cotton Prints: would this be like quilters cotton - and I'm guessing the stuff I'm looking for for dresses.

TIA :)

Hi girls!

I just love your son's outfits. Its so hard to find cute ideas for little boys. How did you do Donald? Any tips? Did you use clipart from somewhere? I'd love to try to do that for my nephew.

Can anyone tell me how to make a personal avatar? I was trying to shrink a photobucket picture but It didn't work.

When I tried to put the address into the DISboards page it said the file was too big.

On my dining table at the moment. But I keep most of my fabric in the Garage (not sure if that is what you call it in the US - the place I'm meant to keep my car anyway ;) ) and then the stuff I'm working on goes into my buffet which also stores my machines, threads, elastic and other notions.

I'd love a sewing room where little fingers can't "help" when I go to answer the phone

Well..I finally have something to post... Anyway, I finally finished this two Valentine Day stripwork jumper. One is for my dd, and the other one is for one of her little friends...I am unsure yet which one I will keep and which one I will give away. They are very similar and too similar, I think but I wanted to work with the fabric that I already bought.

I am thinking of making the portrait peasant top to wear inside...do you think a pink top, a red top or a white top will work the best?

Here's the first one...
th_IMG_3646p.jpg

and the second one...
th_IMG_3634p.jpg

Love both of them but I especially like the first one for some reason that I can't quite explain...maybe it has a little more pink? I would love a white peasant top under them to go with it. Great job!

:

Your puppy and kitten are so adorable! We didn't get the dog I wanted to adopt. :sad2: Someone else was supposedly in front of us in line, but I think it's because she didn't want to adopt to a family with a 19 month old (although he's very gentle with our dog).

I once sent Teresa a link to a grown, very overweight man wearing a Hershey's kiss costume on ebay. It appeared that he had nothing on underneath it, with his hair legs sticking out the bottom. Really made ME want to buy it! :thumbsup2

Sorry you didn't get the dog :sad2: Hopefully he went to a good family.

I love funny ebay stuff! I forwarded on the lovely baby bonnet to lots of people. Be sure to share future things!

Henry is going to finish a bedroom in our basement to use as a guest bedroom. He bought the lumber and everything last week and has already started framing it in. Very jealous! I would love a craft room! Since we don't have basements in TX it makes it hard to find unused space but I have hope for some attic space that I have my eye on when we get the funds for it! I do miss my basements though since I've always had one up until 3 years ago and people here in TX think it's weird that we use it as living space? Hmm...

Looks like you've got the terms right! I didn't realize that you were in New Zealand. I was there in 1995 and thought it was a beautiful country and would love to go back. Makes me hungry for some Vegemite just thinking about it :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (I loved everything about Australia and New Zealand but I don't understand why anyone eats that stuff!).

There she is! Yes, she most definitely needs a Hannah Montana coat! Did you know embellished fleece is 50% off at JoAnn's?

I did not have a dachshund on my flier, only two women looking at decorator fabric. I feel gypped!

On my dining table at the moment. But I keep most of my fabric in the Garage (not sure if that is what you call it in the US - the place I'm meant to keep my car anyway ;) ) and then the stuff I'm working on goes into my buffet which also stores my machines, threads, elastic and other notions.

I sew on the dining table too. I did buy a big plastic bin so I could hide the piles of fabric in the back of my closet though. That was my sole attempt at organizing.

Hey, I finished my hat! Let me see if Megan will pose and I'll be back!

Thanks :) what about Scrub fabric?? I have no idea and I won't take a guess :)

I can't stand vegemite -but love marmite :) NZ is a beautiful place :) I encourage everyone to come here at least once in their lifetime :)

Trying this again....my last post got lost in cyberspace.....

heather - Yeah, misty is a little scary. :rotfl2:

(Just kidding, Misty!)

What did I do?? :scared: :confused3 I know it's the other Misty but I couldn't help but comment. :rotfl: It's not too often I run across another Misty.

Someone asked about sewing areas......
The plan eventually is to enclose our garage and I'll get to use that as a sewing room. But for the time being I use the kitchen table....with 2 extra leaves in it to make it super long! LOL. My cutting mat is on one side, my sewing machine in the middle and my embroidery machine is on the other end. Random fabric, thread, and scraps sprinkled throughout. :rotfl:

I couldn't figure out what to do for the shirt. I shamelessly CABed this from LisaZoe. The girl's middle name is Rose so I thought it was perfect.

She would not do The Tessa because "she can do it better than me and I don't want to." Whatever silly kid!

Scrub fabric is usually quilters cotton, but sometimes a little thicker. Frequently, it's a solid.
