DH and I had a date night last night. We went to Red Lobster for grilled fish, but the wait was waaay to long and we were very hungry. So, dh decides he wants to do some other things first (and no, that is not code) so we did some shopping for Easter. Got candy, Webkinz and some cool puzzle books from Barnes and Noble for the baskets. I wanted to add some hair toys (all girls with pretty long hair) and maybe a bit of jewelry. . . dh said "N. . . O. . "
So, now what do I add. I'm going to get a few "cool" candy items, but we don't want to fill the baskets with candy like we have in the past. New healthy lifestyle and all, ya know, so we aren't sure what to do. I think I might revisit the hair toys issue with dh. . .they aren't very expensive. . .and I understand the nix on the jewels. So, we thought about Nintendo DS games, but they are expensive when buying 3. I did pick up these beautiful little painted ceramic eggs because the girls like that kind of stuff. We can still get away with bubbles. . .they like that. . . and maybe some new sidewalk chalk. . .I think they still like that. What's everyone do??
So, after shopping a while, I am starving and getting grumpy, and tell dh we have to eat and I don't want to drive back across town to wait at Red Lobster. Ok. . so off we go to find food. . . what do you want, I asked. He says, anywhere is fine, as long as I can get fish. . . Ok, that's not so easy. TGI Friday's catches his attention, so into the parking lot we go and right back out when he saw the line waiting at the door. . .it's 7:30 on Sat. night and everywhere is going to be busy. Past a few more places we go, then pull into the Pasta House. Hhhhmmmm, not likely to get fish here, but I'm not saying a word cuz I'm starving and I know I can get an Alli compatible meal here since I've done it before. Inside we go and NO WAIT. . . yeah! So strawberry colada for me and dh orders a soda. No thanks to the appetizers and I spot my meal. They offer several low fat options so I'm happy. . . I have a grilled chicken dish with red sauce, capers, mushrooms and artichoke heart. . . don't remember what else was involved, but it is yummy. . . a little steamed broccoli on the side and we are set. Yes, I'll take the salad since the soup is cream of. . . and some fat free Italian dressing on the side (I've got their dressing in my fridge since they are so kind as to sell bottles). DH orders same salad and dressing and then goes with the grilled salmon. Got his fish by golly. . . and a little broccoli for him as well. Salad comes with some fresh, warm rolls and dressing on the side as requested. . . salad is very good with mixed greens, red onions, artichoke hearts and pimentos. . . bread smells wonderful, but I stay strong and push it to the side. Not long and entree' makes it's way to our table. Very good, and dh gets some bites of mine. He likes the dish I ordered but really, really wanted fish and didn't want to order chicken since we eat it at home like 5 nights a week. He offers a bite of his salmon, but since salmon is a fatty fish, I decline as I don't want to push the allowable fat grams to the limit. . .took Alli right before we started on the salads. I gave dh most of the artichoke out of my salad and off my entree since they are higher in fat as well. Dinner finished, drink finished and desert declined, dh pays the tab and off we go to Barnes and Noble.
Hello. . .there's a Starbucks in here. . . so dh goes off to magazines while I order a triple decaf venti non fat no whip cinnamon dolce latte only after serious debate with self over the cinnamon dolce or the new honey latte. Met up with dh and back to the kids section we went. 30 minutes later, we check out with previously stated cool puzzle books in hand and dh says he wants to head home to watch a movie (no, not code either). I remind him we need to fill the tank with gas and he says he will do it in the morning when he goes to wally world for new shoelaces foster dog has chewed up (3 pair so far) and a few other must have's. I said ok, great and homeward bound we go.
Oh, forgot to mention I had to ask dh to please turn his phone off, or at minimum down during dinner. His phone rings constantly and we can't have a meal without 4 phone calls. So last night, after the first call 2 minutes after we sat down, I "politely requested" he turn it off. He didn't like it, but he turned it down. . .then had to be a smart a$$ when dd11 called from home and goes "its a call from home. . sorry kids, mommy says I can't take any calls during dinner". . . so I started to work up a good glare and he answered. . . in the interest of a nice evening, I overlooked the rather jerky behavior without comment
Now we are home, but can't carry in any of the sacks because dd15 and dd11 are standing in the door. Lock up the car, carry in my starbucks and almost make it to set my things down before dd11 has my 'bucks in her hand. Yes, I know, I've created monsters. . .and I do take my kids to Starbucks for a treat now and then. . but wth, they are only kids once, right. So I end up with about 1/3 of my drink, which I enjoyed and my dd11 enjoyed the rest. I was pretty full anyway, otherwise, I would probably only let her have a couple drinks. I was hoping to digest enough room for another drink or two.. . still have some Captain. . .but didnt happen.
DH puts in a movie, which I did watch for about 45 minutes before dinner took it's toll and I feel asleep. So much for date night. . . .
