OH, I'm so glad you guys found us.... Welcome!!!!!
Hi,
I think I am going to move over here mostly also. Not to get into any debates or step on any toes, but I just can't keep up over at the other thread, and the closer we get to the trip, the less time I will have to find out what I need to know. I think I am also too old for that thread
. I could never post because I could never keep up.
Anyhow, I know I have read replies about this on the boards, but from all the experienced people here-does it realy help to get to the PC early to get a low boarding number, or are the numbers given out randomly. This is only our 2nd cruise. Last Dec 2nd, we had just stayed at the Poly, and they had already checked us in and given us our KTTW cards. We didn't have to go to the desk at all. Thanks...Vicki
Vicki, We got there at about 8:30 -9:00 and there was a small line in front of us and everyone was already heading into the terminal. I don't remember numbers or anything like that I was so excited to meet people that I'd been talking to for a over a year. So, I headed straight to the upgrade line (since the ship was only half full - that won't happen this year!!!) The characters were out and it was a blast. It was hard to believe that we weren't even onboard yet. We will go at 8:30 this time to get there at 9:30. Linda, Susie and I will be at the ears handing out the lanyards, white boards and mini navigators after we get checked in. There are some seats next to the ears and we'll be planted there.
Hi Vicki, Welcome,
When we did the Transatlantic last May the numbers were done in order. It seemed like they were just going in order. We arrived at the terminal about 10:30am and were in group 5, but we actually didn't board with our group but like 3 or 4 groups later. We were meeting other Dis members that were there, checking in, taking pictures with Characters, checking DH into the club, going over the mini navigator, taking pictures, meeting new friends. I do know that once we got on, got Palo reservations, tickets to tea and alcohol tasting it was 1pm and they started letting people go to their staterooms. And we still hadn't gotten to the buffet upstairs for lunch. When you meet Alex you will how important FOOD is to me. You know I love you honey!
Ask any questions you may have, because you never know if someone else has the same one. It's like collective knowledge here! Enjoy!
I asked Jonathan last night where we eat lunch and he couldn't remember either, we were in such a whirlwind of excitment. And Alex and I are the foodies on this group!!!! I am all about food everywhere all the time.
We will have to mix it up with the seats we sit in. I tend to "nest" and sit in the same seat each time like is is assigned or something!
I will make an effort to sit in a new spot at the table each night so we will be visiting with everyone over the trip.
Angie, at least move to the next seat! We had a lot of fun last year. This year we were supposed to be with a big table of family -- they've all cancelled! So, we requested a large table so that we'd meet lots of people. It was good because we always had someone new to talk to and get to know. And the kids had fun.
Hi! Is this where the people with less time are coming? I hope it's ok if I lurk and post a bit?
I know you all have been a group for a long time, and I respect that.
Kim
Jump in Kim. That's funny "the people with less time"
Sounds like a plan. We will step out of our comfort zones!
Yes, yes, yes
29 days...wow! How exciting. Was that too much time or did you just love it? I'm still marveling at 15 days on the magic, 17 days of vacation total. I don't know what it feels like to not cook or clean up after someone for that long!
(am I sounding pitiful?
)
It was fantastic. The time flew by as if we had just begun. We were so busy I never opened the class/book I took with me and was supposed to finish!
too much time, it still wasn't enough! We were actually on vacation for a total 39days, DH is sitting here and is telling to just say 40 days. He doesn't like when i am so precise. We were all very sad to get off the boat after 29days. There was a group of 100 people that did the same thing last year. No you are not sounding pityful! I hated to come home and go back to be the cleaning fairy, laundry fairy, cooking fairy, activities fairy... see where i am going you know the CEO of the House or Domestic Goddess you choose! Some of those people are on this thread and going on the PC cruise and we have kept in touch with them.
OK, I thought we were onboard 25 days????? We did 35 days total (7 at WDW then, 3 Paris) and at the 31 days point Zoe said, "Daddy, I'm tired of my adventure" The hard part was when we got to Paris and had to find food on our own.... we had become so comfortable with everything being takin care of for us onboard.
It would be fun to mix it up that way....ultimately the servers still get their tips whether we're there or not!
They do still get there tips, but you do have to let them know because they are trying to be exact with your orders. They want to have your drinks ready for you each night. Also, there are new servers who are trying to learn their jobs and aren't as easy with switching. So, just let them know when you can.
Some of us asked questions to get to know our servers so we could pick up things for them as a thank you for putting up with us. I had brought along some extra home town gifts for crew members for cases just like these. Yes we tip the amount but then we also give local gifts from home. For example we have two candy companys here, have the sea salt from the great salt lake, have western nut company and of course postcards. It just gives them an idea of where we are from. Some one is a girl scout lady and is know on the ships of the girl scout cookie lady because she gives them out as an additional Thank you. This trip I am giving Mary Kay sun products to the crew members in the kids club as a thank you. One of our friends took clothes for their two daughters that the girls had out grown or just on the edge of being too small, and left them on the ship with crew members that could use them.
Postcards, good idea!!!! We also, picked up gifts at the ports for the CM's because they couldn't get off the ship. And some of the ports were special to them (like our Catholic server was dying to see Rome, so we bought him a miniture Vatican... he just thought it was the best thing in the world)
Hi kids!
I've been encouraging everone I talk to to remember to let their table mates know when they don't plan on going to the dining room for just this reason. It would be nice to be able to pick up the phone and invite a DIS friend (from out of your rotation) to join you one night for dinner! PLUS...don't forget, you can always make breakfast or lunch dates with folks you'd like to know better!
.
Very good idea.
