Super cute customs!

TJ, HS & Stephres, hope you all have magical holiday! I know someone else is going around the same time, but I'm having a senior moment. In any case, everyone enjoy!

Love Jord's trip report! :)

the FMLA only covers emplyees who have worked for the company at least 12 months.

Frankly I am not sweating it. The company largely sucks and my Dh has been begging me to look for a new job. I am going back to school in Aug. and I'd have to get a new job anyway b/c the hours at this one are NOT flexible. I'd like to tell them what to do with the job but I think it may work out for the best this way. I can collect unemployment while I heal and find a new job and school is just around the bend. I am trying to see if w/ my grants and loans I can just stay home (saving daycare $$) and take the majority of my classes online. Finishing my degree has become my #1 priority so I can stop working for crappy places like this one.

the surgery thing...yeah, well apparently the stuff (muscles, tendons, ligaments) by your toes are kinda important so they can't just go hacking away at them...that's why they couldn't take care of it in the ER or the Dr's office. YUCK. I've never had surgery and I am pretty nervous.

I'll see what I can do about the campfire.Keep your fingers crossed cause I'll have to talk B into driving me since I won't be able to use my foot.

...t.

Ouch! Hope everything works out for the best. Foot surgery is no fun, so hope you heal quickly!

I'm pretty good about keeping pins and needles picked up. When I was young (junior high-ish), my father always swore he had magnetic feet. If there was one pin on the floor, it would find him! Needless to say, I learned to clean my sewing area very quickly! *LOL*

So here is the Kmart Tink pillowcase:

Sorry it's wrinkly- it's straight from the package. Oh and make sure you look at all the ones they have because some of the coloring is funky looking!

Here's what I did with that same Kmart pillowcase...

Don't you just love the finger up the nose pose!!

I think your shirt looks great!! Now I'm wishing I would have given it a shot. Oh well, I'll have to settle for my iron-on Minnie shirt and store-bought jeans!

Thanks, but trust me, you can't see all the wierd gathers & puckery places. I worked for the day though. Maybe you can make yourself something for the next trip.

I have been going through previous threads and LOVE all of the adorable clothes! I do hane a question for those of you who have made the mouse Cindy dress...Is there a pattern for it?? my 5yoDD just last week said she wanted to be pink Cind for next WDW trip in sept and Halloween (at least I will have some time!)
Thanks!

I was at my Hancock's this morning and they had a Singer Ad and they are going to have a particular type of sewing machine for $99 in 2 weeks. I'm wondering if this is a good sewing machine and if I should think about getting one.

Here is what it says about the machine:

Singer Heavy Duty Sew & Serge Sewing Machine (Brand new 2008 models)
These special heavy duty machines have a metal hook (not plastic) and are bulit for years of extended service. Machines are new in factory sealed cartons with 25 yr. limited warranty

It goes on to tell some specifics about the machine:
1. Sophisitcated sewing machine that does buttonholes (any size), invisible blind hems, monograms, ribbing, doubles seams, zippers, sews on buttons, darning, applique, zig zag, basting & quilting.

2. It has a professional serging stitch that allows you to sew the seam and serge the edge of the material in one operations. With the purchase of an optional side cutter, you can trim the excess material as you sew.

3. Designed to sew all fabrics such as denim, canvas, upholstery, nylon, stretch materials, silk, percale, organdy and leather.

Anybody have a machine like this? Or know anything about them?

I have an inexpensive Janome that Hancock's runs on sale around Christmas for about $85.00. I've had it for 3 years and might be in the market for something better.

Hi guys, I finished the tink outfit LATE last night nad we have ballet tonight so I don't know if I'll get pics up or not. I did the peasant top with the sash, and I think it came out pretty good.

I would also like an opinion on this machine. Anybody used the serging feature? Is it anwhere close to a stand alone serger?

I don't know anything about this machine, but my guess is that the serging feature is an overlock stitch, which is fairly standard on most sewing machines. Not to say it's not a good stitch - I use it all the time!

Wonder if I can get a side cutter for my Pfaff?

I am behind because I am on a mission trying to work on a project but I had an

Enabler Alert: I did find the minnie dot (big dots!) at Hancocks today!

I had to drive into Tampa to get it (which was scary for me) but the had a whole bolt. It was $4.99/yard.

Ok, carry on with your regularly scheduled sewing!

Oh T- I am so sorry to hear about your foot. I hope everything goes smoothly and you get your job back or a new better one!

I saw that at my Hancock's this morning too. I didn't buy any since I have about 10 yards of the Wal-Mart in my stash, just waiting for a trip to sew for!

I had asked Heathersue this very question and she said she used the Simplicity Belle pattern for the bodice and winged the bottom. Not sure if anyone else has a different pattern they used...this is what I plan on doing for our trip in Oct.

I used Simplicity 5704 (because I had it and could make it work, lol).
5704.jpg

I did V-necked bodice and sewed the "ribbons" (they were tubes of fabric) and bow on top. The shoulder ruffles were the shorter sleeves. I just didn't gather them on the lower edge. (Just hemmed them.)

For the bottom, I cut a 5" wide strip of light pink, same circumference as the skirt. I folded it in half.

Then cut a 6" (I think!) strip of white. It was the same circumference of the skirt, with a bit added to make 4 sets of "pleats". I basted the pleats in place and hemmed the bottom edge.

I stacked the bottom (unhemmed) edge of the dark pink skirt, the light pink "ribbon" and the white, pleated "underskirt" and sewed them all together. (so there was sort of a doubled un-ruffled ruffle at the bottom of the dark pink skirt, if that makes sense?)

The light pink I think gathered up in 4 places (matching the pleats of the white) and tacked it up. The bows went on top. I had to spread out the folded light pink and tack it a bit to make it look like the swoopy ribbons.

Hope that makes some sense. Took me a while to figure how I wanted to do it (and not have more than one layer of fabric! I was afraid she'd roast!!)

I have sewed several things in the past but have never actually used a pattern...I usually just wing it ...I think I will take both of your advice though and alter an existing pattern...Tahnks Again!

Don't you just love the finger up the nose pose!!
That is really cute!! Kids can be so gross :crazy2: - mine do that to, sometimes just to make me crazy :confused3
Did you put a white layer on the back of the tink head? It is kinda thin- I guess it won't matter if I put it on a solid color. Not sure what I'll do with mine just yet.

While we are on the subject of patterns lol. Any ideas on a pattern for the Minnie Mouse dress? I need one for an adult size (my 14 year old has requested one) and one for a 4T lol.

These are both adorable! I LOVE the Nemo jumper and jeans!! You always do such cool things with the straps!

Someone already answered you, but I used the Simplicity Belle pattern for the bodice and "winged" the bottom.

Thank you for giving such an in-depth answer! I was too lazy to do that! I love your dress!

I'm hoping Tessa won't be too hot in her dress. For the underskirt I used a really thin cotton for most of it and then attached 3 eyelet ruffles to it at the bottom. But, it still feels pretty heavy.
