I am thinking about ordering a "Just Because" cake for my mom. She's a teacher who loves to read, and her favorite character is Belle, so I'd like something themed along those lines. Does anybody have any suggestions or perhaps pictures of cakes that have been ordered for a book-lover? TIA!!

I'm also a teacher who loves to read and Belle is my favorite too! I've never seen a cake like that, but if you get one, please post a photo - I'd love to see it!

I was thing that you could get at least a two layer cake that isn't round, but more in the shape of a book. Each layer would be a different color fondant b/c it would be a different book. Each of the "spines" would have a different title of a book that your mother likes. Then maybe since she like Belle, the top one could be Beauty and the Beast. The top of the cake would look like the cover from a Beauty and the Beast book. Maybe with a picture when Belle is reading to the Beast. Then you could have then put something like "Mom, thanks for just being you" or "Just because your a wonderful mother". Just one idea. I'm sure she will love it no matter what it looks like.

Ok.. I've been reading this thread for a few pages but I still don't know the answer to this question (I may have just missed it.. cake is so distracting!)

but I wanted to order a cake for our upcoming trip... if I wanted one from the Boardwalk Bakery or Grand Floridian Bakery would I have to get it to a specific restaurant (if so which ones) or can I just order it to our room at POFQ.. I'd really prefer it to be ordered to the room.. but I think cakes from those two places might be better then your average cakes from just signature or table serve restaurants.. can you send them a picture of the type cake you want?

I hope that makes sense.. thanks DIS :goodvibes

I don't believe that Boardwalk delivers to hotels except its own or a restaurant on the Boardwalk - you would have to go and pick it up yourself. When I ordered last year and i was staying at POR I had to pick it up unless something has changed - I'm not familar with GF

You can get the slipper dessert in chocolate, but I don't know if it's dark or milk. Have a great B-day! party: :bday: party:

So after lurking on this thread for sometime we finally decided on DD's cake and I had a great idea for DH's cake. Dh will celebrate his Bday at Boma, so He'll have a camoflage cake with Mickey and the American Flag on top (he's a Disabled Veteran and will love that). The cake line put me through to the chef at Boma and we set everything up - the process was wonderful.

DD's at CRT is another story. We're staying at GF and I know we could get any cake we want (pretty much) there, but I want the cake to be delivered after dinner at the restaurant, instead of just being brought to the room. The cake line informed me that all custom cakes in MK includeing at CRT had to be 10" or larger! OMG there are only 3 of us. So my choices were a huge cake, podium cake, or the Mickey Head cake. So, we went with the Mickey Head cake (which looks delicious form all of the pics on here) with vanilla inside. Wow! It took forever to get through this cake process - Good Luck to everyone still planning!

Need your opinion, we are going down in late August and are celebrating numerous special events. My DD will be 8 in June, DD turns 6 in July and DH turns 40 in Sept.

My question, in your opinion, should I do 3 separate cakes for them, or a really fancy princess theme cake for the girls and something else for my husband? I have time to decide, so look forward to seeing your suggestions and any pictures!

Wanted to do the cakes at Hollywood and Vine at Disney studios, since that is the only lunch we have planned and we can bring leftovers back to the resort.

Thanks, this is a great thread! :)

Your husband's cake sounds wonderful - what a great idea! I hope you'll post some photos when you get back.

Have a great trip!

Ahh okay. Does anyone know if the GF would deliver to POFQ or would I have to pick it up?

The GF bakery not a public bakery that you can walk up to and pick things up and they do not deliver cakes to any other resorts other than to their guests' rooms and their own restaurants.

Ahhhh okay. I guess we'll just get a celebration cake. Thanks for the help! :goodvibes

Does anyone know if I can get a Mickey head cake at an Epcot restaurant??? I thought about having DS's birthday at Chef Mickey's but he isn't a real fan of character meals so I'm thinking a restaurant in Epcot since Epcot is his favorite park. :goodvibes

Price: $75
Date Received: 05/10/09
Location: GF Cafe

This was Chocolate Cake filled with red rasberry mouuse and fresh red rasberries, icing was dark chocolate ganache and chocolate shavings. 4 white chocolate strawberries in front of the cake, a white chocolate slipper and red sugar roses sat on top of the cake. The sugar roses had a sparkle dust on them which was a great touch and just how I always order real roses for my mom.

Not only was this cake amazing looking, but it tasted great too. The pictures just do not do it justice. A big Thank you to Pat and Christina they did a wonderful job designing the cake just as I pictured it. It was really worth all the calls and time it took to make this cake look just like I described it to them.

1stTime, Thanks so much for posting this!
Your cake is absolutely gorgeous and very, very similar to the one I would like to order in September. Now I know that the cake I have been picturing in my head is totally possible! I can't believe that it only cost $75.
Did you mention what size it was?

TIA:flower3:

Thanks so much for the tip - I am a Choco-holic!! And the slipper looks so much more my style. I am going to be calling GF bakery here in just a few minutes.

I have not tried - but I do know that unlike the Grand Floridian, the Boardwalk does have a bakery that you can go in and you can purchase cakes at - and when we were there in Oct they did have a Mickey head cake - very small - and very reasonably priced! Personally, I am planning on going there, getting it to go and taking it with us to have our celebration!

I'd like to know, too. We don't need a huge cake but would like something a little better than the "podium" cake. If we decide to go with the cheapy one, though, we just tell or server or the host stand? Also, do they have candles?

Thank you. I am pretty sure it was an 8in cake. She wanted to do a 6 inch and put the stuff on the side but I said no thank you. I cannot wait to see your cake.

That looks like the same one I have seen on here that the CR bakery does but that one just looks smaller. I don't want to have to pick it up. I would like it at the restaurant. If I can't get this confirmed I will just book at CM's to be sure. Thanks for the info though!

The small Mickey head above is about the size of a big cookie or brownie and you can get it for a snack credit and it's definitely portable. The cake next to it in the case is either an 8" or 10" cake. Probably the quickest way to find out is to call the cake hotline and ask to be connected to one of the Epcot restaurants. Good luck!

Does anyone know if there's is anywhere that will make a cake with Splenda for a diabetic?
