Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

I was at the expo right when it opened on Friday and I couldn't believe there was a huge line waiting just to go into the expo/shopping area...with a separate huge line for the packet pick up.

Pretty sure there were people there to buy purses who weren't even doing any race event.

Yes !!!! We were in line long before the expo opened and the line of "shoppers" were there too. I even asked a couple of the "shoppers" in line and the ones I spoke to were not registered in the race. It's a shame that some items were purchased by non race participants only to be sold on Ebay later. I think it should be monitored, like you need to show your race number in order to buy race related items.

We work hard and train for the races so let us shop just as hard as we train. ;)

SAME HERE! I was in line behind a lady that had the Aulani Dooney as well and she wasn't running, only "collecting bags". I'm sure these are going on eBay. I agree that we should have to show race number or something. Its too bad. What other races do they have special Dooney & Burke purses? Princess? I've never seen that before, but I've never done the Princess. Only WDW in Jan and DL in Sept, and I didn't notice them at any of those, but at Tink it was a huge deal! I was there early on Friday when they still had them but the line to buy merch was CRAAAZY! I just got the sweet black jacket, which I LOOOOVE!

:mad::mad:oh now this REALLY ticks me off...people out there that snatched them all up and weren't even part of the event!!! I don't know why I hadn't assumed that before though given how collectible Disney stuff can be. oh well :( I think if it's going to be a race commemorative item like that, in limited supply, they should make them available for pre-order at the time of registration like the pins and necklace that way they know how many they need on hand for sure and then have some sort of overage in stock to sell at the expo to all the crazy poachers! I'm going to have to check ebay and see what I find, though I know I won't want to pay what I'm sure they are asking.

They did have Princess Dooney's on sale at the Princess expo last year, but they were not race commemorative, and I do not believe they flew out the door or even sold out. There were still tons on display when I got to the expo on saturday morning. I had seen the same pattern sold previously in the parks...but since the theme fit, I'm sure that's why they sold them at the expo too...and I believe they even put them on sale at 25% off.

I made sure to make it known to the BF how disappointed I was that I didn't get the Tink one and how the really cute "Minnie Bows" Dooney would have been a good second choice...you know, since Valentine's day is coming up and all. :lovestruc

When I saw that huge line of people I actually debated shopping first and getting my race number and packet afterwards. I talked myself out of it though because I wanted to get the packet pick up over with! They did still have the purses when I went through the merchandise area though...and I did do that before visiting the rest of the expo. It was CRAZY in that merchandise area! :scared1:

I'm I the only one have post-race blues?

Yes !!!! I am already planning my next years Tink costume. I think I will be going with a different skirt but will be keeping my wings.

Next race for me is the DL 1/2. Just 7 LONG months away.

Does anyone know when reg. will start for Tink 2013 ?????

The line for merch was crazy but so is the Anniversary Sale at Nordstroms :lmao:
I thought it was thoughful that they had a dressing room for us. I'm so used to trying on everything in the middle of all the chaos.

I stood in line and I purchased what I wanted. They had all the bags at the time and I liked them, not loved them, so I decided to pass so that someone who really LOVED them could purchase one....NOT THE Ebay non-racers-sellers !!!!

I'm thinking middle of April or May, but I haven't heard anything so those are just guesses.

Love the 7 months! I miss counted and was thinking it was 8 until I saw your post. 7 is way better than 8!

Hi all,
I've finally uploaded my photos & hope I don't share too many or bog down too many of your machines/phones. I really had a blast at this event and thought it was such a wonderful way to celebrate my first ever 1/2 marathon! I'm hooked and plan to do the C2C in 2013 (if we can budget for it). So far, the only other race I have scheduled is a 10k in Issaquah, WA which will be a sprint tri for my DH, and kid's tris for my 2DDs. Thanks again to all the wonderful people on these boards. Even though I didn't make it to any of the meet-ups, having this board helped and made me feel a bit a part of a "team". :) I did get to see lisah0711 when exiting Finding Nemo -- thanks to her WISH shirt, I asked who she was. There is a very good chance I will be doing the races next year solo, so it'll be good to know about the WISH team & boards.
So, on to the photos!

I love all your pics! I just used my phone and it had some issues focusing while I was running. I think for the Princess I will use my regular camera.

I posted this on the WISH page, but I thought I'd share it over here as well.

Here I am going to packet pickup at the Disneyland Hotel.

This is THE STICK I talked about in a previous post. If you have any sore muscle issues, try this. It works!

They really had DCA all lit up for us to see at night. It was really beautiful!

At mile 3 of the 5K, basically done!

Now we are at the Inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon. I got Corral B based on my estimated finish time of 2:45. Actually I finished in 3:19:32, a 27 second PR!

This sea of runners is only what I could see from the front of Corral B. There were 5 corrals total!

I'm finished, got my medal, and showered and ready to go eat something good! We went to California Pizza Kitchen.

I love your pictures! Some of it (like running by Soarin') I totally DO NOT remember. :rotfl: Isn't that funny? I guess I must have been in 'the zone' or something. lol. Thanks for sharing!!!

How was the line for that? I had thought about doing it but I thought it would be a nightmare of a wait.

Considering I work for a large retailer (Target) and I've seen the insanity of Black Friday from the perspective the line and the merchandise area were not bad at all! It was actually a breeze for me to get mine. I just hopped in line after I picked up my race packet and waited my turn.

I was at the expo right when it opened on Friday and I couldn't believe there was a huge line waiting just to go into the expo/shopping area...with a separate huge line for the packet pick up.

Pretty sure there were people there to buy purses who weren't even doing any race event.

It took me a minute to decide which line to get into first! I decided to do the packet pick-up first and if there were still any left it was "meant to be". The line for the packets looked monstrous but once they got us down the ramp and we got started I was out in less than 5 minutes and back up to the Expo and made my way straight to the merchandise area.

I really do wish they had restricted the purchase on the Dooney's to those registered for the 1/2 - at least the two that had the medallions. That was a shame.

When I saw them on eBay I was pretty PO'ed!

I can't believe people are selling their medals on eBay! And the race shirt.

People are selling their medals?? Now that's just not right.

Hey, you cut me off on the right hand side of the photo!! :goodvibes I was right up at the "gate" on the right side for Corral E.

Run Disney has put the dates for the Tinker Bell 2013 up.:cool1: Jan 18-20 2013. Can't reg. yet but at least I can make some plans.

I'm excited it's earlier next year. Just in case I don't renew my AP it falls in my window!!

Really? That is only one week after the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. I was hoping to do my coast to coast in one month like so many people did this year, but I am not sure I could do it the next weeked. Ugh!!!
