Official 2012/2013 Disney Military Promotion - Updated Post #187

There's not a huge discount, and it's worth shopping around to see if you can find anything better. Thank goodness for the Military Salute tickets because they are a great deal.
Totally!! They just don't match our dates this time around.

Has anyone heard about an updated military discount for next year? We were looking to go in October. I remember last year they updated the policy around August. Has there been any news?

I have a question about FP+ and the military 4 day salute tix which we will buy at SOG next week after arriving at the BC resort.

I understand you can't "connect" the KTTW room keys and the tickets....although I can't for the life of me understand why. It seems like simple programming. But I digress...

Once I get my military salute tickets and activate them, are they "connectable" to the new MDE system like all my adrs and cruise tickets etc.? And if so, and if FP+ is up and running, is that where I can choose 3 FP+ attractions...on the mobile app once tickets are connected? Or is the FP+ system not even running for everyone...just test subjects still?

Thanks in advance!

1. The Resort Computer System (LILO) connects through an interface to the Automated Ticketing System (ATS). There is certain information which is ATS for the Armed Forces Salute tickets (as well as all Annual Passes and YES program tickets) which LILO is not designed to handle.

2. Who knows about the new MDE system. The entire NextGen is still under development and is mostly still "vaporware".

3. For FP+ see #2. It is still in very early Beta testing. There are some people who are arriving during a specific date range next week with Disney packages at only two of the Resorts who are testing the MagicBands and FP+.

4. After they complete this round of testing, nobody know what they are looking for and they will not plan on any more testing until they see the results of this test and decide (a) what they want to test next and (b) when and where they will do the next testing.

Thanks! I am not sure I get the technical stuff but at least now I know I don't have to worry about FP+ since it really hasn't started I guess.

I do worry about turnstiles and RFID lines. I think the military tickets will require me to wait in the old turnstiles instead of the resort RFID lines correct? But I heard if I "lose" my tickets (after noting the serial numbers of course) that a trip to guest relations where they only issue RFID tickets now will result in getting me RFID reissued tickets for use in the shorter/faster RFID lines. Maybe not all attached to a magicband like i would like in an ideal world (if that is what i will get at the resort for the room) but more convenient at least. Is this true...or could I just ask them to be converted. We aren't doing parks on day 1 so we have lots of time.

Again TIA!

I'll tell you....when we were there in April with our AP's (non-RFID), the regular turnstile lines were actually much shorter. We were there with friends who had RFID tickets and we got into the park before them every time. :thumbsup2

I was curious if you could book FD (paying rack rates for room and buying the minimum 2 day ticket). Then can you take that 2 day ticket and upgrade it to the Military Salute ticket with Hopper & WaterPark access?

If I did the math correctly, here's what I came up with

2 Day Regular Ticket - $176 + tax
4 Day Salute w/Hopper & WP - $186 + tax

Can I pay the $8 price difference and upgrade from the 2 day to the Salute?

If so, do I need to use the ticket 1st and upgrade at Guest Services inside the park or can I do it prior to use at DTD?

CF or others, I have read the Ticket Sticky about upgrading and didn't see anything that seems to prevent this transaction as there is a cash transaction involved, but didn't know if there were exclusions regarding either FD tickets and/or Salute tickets.

Yes. This can be done. Just be sure to use the ticket prior to upgrade.

The AFS ticket for either hopping or WPF&M is $156. The ticket with both is $184.

A two-day MYW base ticket is $176 adult and $164 child.

By definition an upgrade is taking one ticket and adding cash (or similar) and ending up with one ticket with more entitlements.

I didn't know you could do this. So, if I am reading correctly, I could book a package using some other discount (like Free Dining) add a 2 day ticket and then only pay the $8 or so difference to upgrade that ticket to the AFS ticket with the hopper and WP&more option? Do I do that at the ticket window? (I usually buy my AFS tickets right at MK window). Do I have to use both days of the 2 day ticket first?

I don't want to book it all and then when my wife gets there she has to pay out another lot of money as we didn't get the Info correct or they don't except her ID

Hope all this makes sense I'm writing it at 1 in the morning on shift lol.

Do you have a US Issued CAC? Are you British Military, I'm not sure from your post if you are US military and your wife is British or if you are both from the UK. I cut your post for brevity so hopefully someone can help you.

Here is the eligibility
"Am I eligible to participate in the Armed Forces Salute?

"Eligible Service Members" are "active" (current) or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reserve and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Medal of Honor Recipients, 100% Disabled Veterans, and Permanently Disabled Veterans are also eligible for this offer. Permanently Disabled Veterans must have a military ID with a DAVPRM status.

Spouses of eligible members are able to participate without the member being present.

Active Military Foreign Affiliates with US issued CAC with a blue band are now eligible.

Not eligible are: unaccompanied dependents (children), prior service members who did not retire, foreign military members with out US issued CAC, DoD civilians, and other service connected disabled who are not DAVPRM or 100%. "

I am British military that will be affiliated with the US military when I am posted in the US in the next few months, how ever at that time my wife may still have her British dependent ID as she may come across to Disney straight from the UK, she may be at Disney before I am depending on leave.

Subbing to this thread :goodvibes

This will be our first time using the Armed Forces Salute promotion and I need all the information I can find.

We won't be going until next September so I know I have to wait to see if the promotion is renewed (fingers crossed! :wizard:) for 2013 - 2014.

When do they usually announce the extension?

They announced in early July last year I believe. It should be very soon. I'm hoping they announce discounts for rooms soon myself.

I have a question....in the rules it says:

No more than six (6) Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased and (if applicable) activated by any Eligible Service Member or spouse (regardless of the place of purchase and whether purchased by that person or that person's spouse). In addition, one of the six (6) Tickets purchased must be used by the Eligible Service Member or his/her spouse.

I am guessing this means...that me, being an eligible spouse with military ID -- unless i was actually using a ticket could not take our dependents and have them use it (being that I will have an AP)...

Hi - new to the boards and am trying to figure out the FD offers. We are booked for 9/12-9/17 at SOG and will be using the Afs tickets. I've gotten four FD PIN offers in the last few months. Am I right that these are not available for use with our current resort and ticket options? Thanks for the help!

Hi maggiedarling, welcome.

You can not use Disney's free dining at Shades of Green. They are an independent resort (DoD owned) on WDW property.

But you also can't use free dining at a Disney resort if you are using the 30-40% off Disney Armed Forces Salute room only rate. They only allow 1 discount. You can add paid dining to the AFS room rate and still use your AFS tickets.

You'll need to compare the cost of all three options. I just did a post on figuring the cost of your Disney AFS room discount.

You can certainly use the tickets-- but just 5. To use 6 either you or DH has to use one of them. Hope that clarifies!

Does anyone know if you purchase the AFS tickets for Disney LAND, are you able to purchase another set later on for Disney WORLD?

Yes. They are separate promotions and normally the two ticketing computers do not talk to each other.

thank so much. cool. that is SO good to know...potentially changes everything - though it's hard to think of going down there for JUST four days...I want to take them LONGER than that.
