Room frig recall?

I just saw this posted in the restaurant forum.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3148392

Someone posted that their friend got an alert email that the room frig was recalled at resorts and will be gone for months.
I've not seen a single press release or blog announcement anywhere about that.
I also think that would be a major amenity to eliminate suddenly.
I'm there all the time and have heard no word of it.

I also have 3 family events with 30+ people booked for Sept, so a fridg recall for now that still lasts until then would be upsetting.
(nobody in my group has received the special alert email that that person mentioned.)

Please tell me this is a rumor.
It makes no sense to me whatsoever.

This has been discussed in several places here on the boards and on several blogs and planning sites. Not sure how you missed it, but it is true. A fridge caught on fire at DL's GC resort and they have recalled the model. Not all resorts/room types are affected. If you request a fridge, but they cannot provide one for you, they will issue a $15 per night credit on your room charges.

Not a rumor. If you need one for medical reasons, be sure to call and request one. They are switching out all of the new fridges they put in last year.

Do you have a link to the planning sites that says it?
I was just there 2 weeks ago at WL
my inlaws were at riverside then too
we both had a frig.
I've not seen any announcements on allears and they are usually pretty good about reporting things like that.

Like some have already confirmed, it was one particular model of which wdw has several differ t types that got recalled.

How are the fridges at Pop working out ? Everyone have one ? Or nobody have one ? :confused3 Do they have a completion date in mind ? Sure would like to know. I would MUCH prefer to have a fridge than a room credit . ::yes::

So the credit only comes if you request a fridge and they cannot provide one???....

The only confirmed credit report I have seen thus far was from someone staying at POP.

Yes, as far as I know. Some fridges were not affected, so they are not giving $15 credits to everyone. It just depends on whether or not you have a working fridge in your room and if you go to the desk and they can't get you one. They will give you a credit toward your room charges, meaning you have to charge things to your room while there in order to claim it. At least, that was how the person reporting from POP explained it.

Thanks for your help.
Either way....room credit.... fridge....no fridge...no room credit.....I'm going to Disney in 55 days and I'm so excited about that!!!:yay:

We just returned from WDW yesterday. We arrived on the 17th at the Grand Floridian and passed two full pallets of new refrigerators on the way to our room. Our room already had a new one installed when we got there and they were switching out other rooms the rest of the day. So it looks like the GF at least has new fridge's I can't speak for the other resorts.

Thanks for the report! Hope you had a wonderful trip! :goodvibes

I'm currently at All Star Movies and no fridge here. Well there's one in the room with a sign on it saying it's been disconnected for safety reasons...

As several other people have mentioned, the number of working refridgerators have been greatly reduced across property. This recall has impacted WDW, DLR, and Aulani. DVC locations should not have been impacted. Each resort does have a limited quantity of refridgerators available, but Guests with medical needs have priority.

The situation is not expected to be fully resolved in the near future as logistic of replacing thousands of units is complicated

Anyone know anything about the current fridge status at AKL at the moment? We'll be there soon and I was just wondering what the chances are that we'll have one.

Fridges have not been replaced anywhere at WDW yet. Locations may have pallets of fridges in their receiving areas, but those are just being transported from resorts that have an abundance of working models
