Oh, poor Mark. I can only imagine how frustrated he was. (But good for a laugh!)

I'm a bit whiny about the snow here in Toronto because we have many years where we don't even need boots in the city, but this year the ground is often covered in the white stuff. But whenever I get whiny I think of you in Boston and I change my thoughts.

Stay safe and stay warm inside!
Well if it makes you feel any better Janet, you can think of me in BC growing gills :fish::duck:

Dee and my fellow Mass friends, I share your pain. We live on the ocean and on a hill, not the greatest storm combination! Bad driving and crazy winds. As bad as it is, no one hates it more than our dog Lola!!This was taken about two hours ago when she was looking for a place to "go"!!

:scared: Wow that's a lot of snow!!! Poor Lolapaw:

Hi Dee! Realized I never asked to be added to the Be Our Guest list again. On our Jan trip we booked a bounceback for Dec 16-19, YC CL Gardenview. We're doing a split stay & will be @ Contemporary Resort club level Dec 12-16. it's mostly a Christmas trip, but is only 3 weeks before DH's big 60 ( :scared1:) so I'll slip a little celebrating that in too. I'm hoping by Dec the YC club level has gotten it's rehab. We definitely noticed the need this past trip. The room was fine, but the hallway rugs & walls are so very worn & stained. I considered booking BC for the rehabbed rooms, but we really prefer YC so we'll just hope for a rehab before Dec.

!

We are booked at YC for August and in my mind I keep questioning whether we should switch to BC for the refurb rooms, but I think we would enjoy YCs feel. What keeps bringing you back?

We are a couple in our late 50's & we travel alone. We have stayed at both resorts, but we prefer the YC atmosphere-- quieter lobby; warmer, richer colors in the rooms. It feels more like "us". We usually book at water view club level room & the view of the lighthouse & lake is great. I like to sit on the balcony & getting a balcony is less likely @ the BC. The YC is picked up first on the bus routes & the bus stop is much less crowded (BC stop has both the hotel & villa guests waiting to board). We don't use the Market Place for take out, so not being near there isn't a problem for us.

We do think the YC is ready for a refurb. But the rooms are still in good shape-- clean & comfortable. The halls are showing wear, but not so bad I won't go back.

1. I'm on the Be Our Guest list, but not with dates - I'll be at the BC CL from May 15-23 for Star Wars Weekends.

2. I feel like maybe I remember seeing something somewhere about this - can you see the Star Wars Weekends Fireworks from anywhere around the YC/BC area?

Thanks!

wow on the snow-reminds me of some childhood winters in North Dakota (one winter we had so much snow piled up from the snow blower that we dragged our sleds to the roof to sled down-at least until mom found out:rotfl:)

Add us to the list? Moving over from CBR on June 4-7 at Beach Club for SWW

Please add me to the list! Yacht Club October 25-31! Stayed at BC in September and LOVED it! When booking this upcoming trip, BC standard and garden view rooms were already booked up so we decided to give YC a try. I am guessing it's not much different than BC. Bringing some very close friends of ours this time so we hope they love it as much as we did!

Yes, there is info in the first post along with pics from the various spots. We are going to try the BC beach to hopefully catch both Illuminations and SWW fireworks the night we arrive. :)

Just went over to Stormalong Bay and the guard told me only the lazy river was closed. I didn't go in a look, but I beleive him over the person I spoke to on the phone.

I have to post this- Mark was having trouble with his snowblower yesterday too. He went onto all sorts of websites, read about carburetors and finally diagnosed the problem:

Out of gas.

:lmao:

Stay safe everyone!
Too funny. I hope gas was easily obtainable.

Wow. That's some snow. My first winter on the east coast was crazy with the snow. My mom was living in downtown Frederick, MD at the time and we got two feet in a weekend, or something like that. People were cross country skiing down the streets. When I was in my twenties, it seemed like fun. It would not be fun now.

Thanks for the update. I will miss this when I'm there for PHM. Maybe they'll get done quickly!

Southwest Flight release info alert.
I just spoke to the elves that work at Southwest Airlines. To confirm what has been reported before, Southwest will release the next round of flights on Feb. 19th. Of course this does not help Ninja Mom who needs some December flights. Those will be released around June. One of the really helpful things I learned from the conversation with the elf was that when they release this next batch of flights they can tell you when they will release the next batch.

So that's the dispatch on the batch match.

There is limited open-air seating at the aft. This can be a popular place to sit - not only for the abundant fresh air, but also for the unobstructed views. So, if that's an area where you would like to sit, be among the first to board from the rear entrance of the boat. There is probably room there for about 5-6 adults to sit, somewhat comfortably.

I will do for the rear entrance. Thanks!

We get our taxes done and I find out my final budget tomorrow! Yay!!

We'll be at the BC at the same time :-)

New washer and Dryers on 4th floor BC Villas and new coin operated washer and dryers down by the quiet pool.

The Lazy River is closed down at Storm-along -Bay. Kids are swimming at nite and it is in the low 60's, high 50's. The lifeguards are bundled up and kids are swimming. On Monday nite it was raining hard and people were swimming. I guess it doesn't make any difference because you are wet, but it was really cold Monday nite.

Sorry guys, I know this info is likely in this thread somewhere, but when do they anticipating finishing renovations to the Beach club rooms (not villas). We are planning on BC for our early Nov 2015 trip, but only if there is not still any major construction to lobby, pool, or majority of rooms. If there will be BCV construction for our time, should we request a lakeside room, despite what room category we book? Thanks.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:woohoo:

As Katesdad pointed out, we try to keep the very first post in this thread updated with accurate information about the refurbishment work going on at the resort. I just added the message there that based on unofficial reports we are reading (not anything provided by the resort, but on other threads here and other websites) that our best guess for the completion of the BC room work is late summer. As far as I know, the work at BCV is interior only, so it shouldn't matter where you request based on the BCV refurb.

:)

I also want to thank you for keeping up the great info on page 1. It was really valuable on our trip. We were scheduled to get picked up at 6 PM & were spending the afternoon in Epcot. At around 3, we were caught in a torrential rain storm. In getting back to the hotel, we had to walk thru puddles that were several inches of water deep. Our sneakers were thoroughly soaked. There was no way we could wear them back on the plane & our other footwear was not going to be useful with all the snow & single digit temps at home. So I decided I'd throw them in the dryer before we got picked up. Although we have stayed at YC about 20 times, I never do laundry on vacation soooo....... Page 1 to the rescue!!! Found laundry room location & cost quickly & easily. Thankfully, the dryers were not being used. My DH was so impressed I could find all the info we needed right on the Dis! He knew I used it for park & discount info, but he couldn't believe I could even find info on the laundry room! A little FYI, we found the sneakers would "pop" the dryer door open pretty often. So 1 of us actually stayed right there to close the door & restart the cycle. So if anyone is going to be drying sneakers, you might want to stay close.

Thanks again Dee!! :goodvibes

Edited to add my sympathy to all the New Englanders suffering thru this snowy winter. I'm in Buffalo, we started the winter off with 7 feet of snow in 2 days in November. So I totally understand your pain!

Got it!!! :welcome: back!

I'm so glad you shared your story of how the info here helped you during your trip. Everyone's contributions are what makes this such a great thread. I have never stepped foot in any of the resort laundry rooms, so a big thank you to the folks who provided pictures and detailed info. I will take credit for hopefully organizing the information here in an easy-to-find format. As I like to say, I put the "Dee" in OCD!

Thanks for the sympathy. You not only understand our pain, you have every right to mock it!!! You got more snow in two days than we have received in our 9th snowiest February ever, so kudos to you for surviving that!!!

:cold:

Hi, everyone. I read this thread a lot. Thanks for keeping it up. I'm wondering about the boats to HS etc. We took a boat inside Epcot when we visited in December 2012. It was one of the hottest experiences we had. Super stuffy. If there was a/c, it wasn't really working. Are the boats from BC to HS the same? Trying to decide if walking sounds better for our early May trip. I'd rather the exercise and breeze if it's really stuffy on the boats. Thanks!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list. Which resort? BC?

:cool1:

Subbing - fab thread thanks!!

:welcome:

Would you like to be added to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1? When is your trip?

:goodvibes:

YIKES!!! Poor Lola! And her family. Hope you are able to get around ok. Mark is back to work today now that the trains into Boston are running again.

::yes::

Preference for BC or YC is definitely a matter of personal taste. I'm not sure that I would switch from a resort that I think feels right to me just based on the refurbished rooms. Also keep in mind how important a full balcony is to you. If it doesn't really matter, then you may want to consider a switch, but if you will disappointed not to have one, I would advise you to stay put.

Got it!

As others have said, the front page (Either the FAQ post or the Other Useful Info Post) has info on seeing fireworks in the EPCOT resort area from outside the parks. I have a post with pictures of the Frozen fireworks (which I think are shot from the same place as the SW fireworks) from both the Boardwalk bridge and BC Beach. The beach was better.

Oh, we had plenty of gas. Just needed to check the tank before panicking. At least we got an hour or so of exercise while we shoveled the driveway waiting for the snowblower to come back to life.

:welcome: to this forum and THANKS SO MUCH for the info about the pool and the new laundry machines! Hmmmm... we were told the resort was getting new machines, but I thought they were all going to be credit card (or even MB) operated.

Also want to say thank you for your great work on the Trip Report boards. After this thread, that is my favorite place to hang out on the DIS!

:thumbsup2
