Can't purchase Disney gift card w/ Target gift card?

It is cashier dependent in the sense that some cashiers will immediately balk at even trying to process the payment despite the lack of any official signage and corporate policy clearly communicated to customers, and are unwilling to budge on their stance. Other cashiers will process it without hesitation or question. Sometimes it isn't worth getting into with a cashier and it is easier to just try another cashier later. I personally rather do that than get store management involved and ultimately have them set a policy for the store (whether it is in line with the corporate one or not) that doesn't allow "entertainment cards" to be purchased with Target GC. As of 8/16 my local target did not have any signage indicating it was not allowed, so if corporate has changed their policy, it has not been clearly communicated to the stores and their employees.
Ah ok thanks for the clarification. I can def. see that one cashier is one way where another is another way in the clarification you provided. And I agree I would probably just go to another cashier if that happened to me. I'm big on having written proof of policy (in store that is) because as we all know what one person tells you may not be accurate.

Reminds me of one time a few months ago I was at my local Costco. Depending on the situation I might need to do two different transactions. Any time I have said "I would like to do two separate transactions" the cashier at Costco is more than willing to do so and doesn't balk at it at all. There is no policy regarding the inability to split of transactions.

However, one day I got a cashier that was for some reason just dead set against me doing two different transactions. My mom happened to be with me (as my guest) that day so maybe she assumed that I was buying my stuff for her (which wasn't the case and still isn't against store policy either) but she was asking me all these questions: "Is one transaction business or not" "Why do you need to do two transactions?" oh and my favorite was "Can't I just give you the subtotal of the one transaction?"...I was like "No, it's not business and personal transactions just personal, it doesn't matter why I want to do it, and no you can't just give me the subtotal" (I was not wanting to try and figure out how much the total of each transaction including tax and it was just unnecessary to try and do that).

I've been a member for a while now and never had this happen. The cashier ended up doing the two separate transactions grudgingly but I was honestly annoyed that she was giving me the 3rd degree. It wasn't like I could easily go to another cashier either and it hasn't happened since so I don't know what her deal was that day.

Yeah I definitely agree written proof of policy is best when an employee is saying they cannot do something for you, but like your example above, some people just get it in their head how something is required to be done even when it's not. It's super obnoxious, but hopefully with this Target GC to other GC issue they don't update the software on their registers to prevent it so you can find cashiers who really don't care and just want to get on with their day so they process the payment without issue.

Totally agree with you there. The kicker really would be if the software was updated and hopefully for all that doesn't happen.

Didn't this, lots of orders being cancelled happen before? I thought when they opened their new website and then it got fixed. Or am I remembering it wrong?

Except they already started cancelling all orders for electronic gift cards a few months back and that was confirmed by many as a new policy. The only gift cards left online that people were still able to buy using target gc were physical cards like Disney. Then a couple weeks ago the website was updated to say you couldn't use a target gc to purchase Disney cards (right in the item description). Yet the orders were still processing. Finally this week all reports indicate any order placed that contains a Disney gift card and any target gc payment (even if used in combo with another payment method) is being immediately cancelled. People reaching out to target to inquire are being told that policy changed and no longer allows the purchase of any GC online with target GC for payment. This seems like a logical progression to me. I would not expect this avenue to reopen any time soon.

Thanks I wasn't sure
No problem. I (and some other posters on the Disney gift card thread) actually had ebates taken back recently for Disney gift card purchases made on target.com when the glitch had briefly started working again about 1.5 months ago. Clearly that avenue is no longer an option.

Is the red card 5% still working online?
If you mean paying (in full) with the red card yes-I haven't tried but other posters say it works. If you mean getting 5% off because you have a red card but use a target gift card to pay in full or any portion then supposedly the order will be cancelled within minutes.

Thanks....I meant the straight up way...5% still seems better than the 2% I would get in credit card rewards otherwise!

well like others here i do swagbucks and am kinda disappointed we no longer can use those and get our 5% off, i use these GC for my annual pass each year in Anaheim, CA. I did however head to my local target and went through the self checkout line and was able to use the 100 bucks i had in gift cards for 2 $50 disney gift cards. Im a single person so the 40 bucks a year wont kill me, but it was nice to have, Now ill have to do it this way, or get pay pal money into a checking account.

Ok, clearly I am late to the game here and didn't realize I couldn't do this! I have leftover Target GCs and was hoping to be able to get Disney GCs for my February trip! I didn't even see the notice in the details saying you couldn't do this online! So, my question is, would I be able to do this in the store - ie use my GCs to get the Disney GCs in store? Or will the cashiers prevent that also?

It should work but some people have had problems. I believe the registers still allow it though.

It worked for me in the Target store in early October.

I work at a target and no one has told me otherwise, so I still have taken orders! ;) However please remember if a cashier tells you no it is for a good reason. They aren't just trying to ruin your day, they have been told, likely by someone several levels above them, that they cannot process these orders. They could LOSE their job for putting it through for you, so please don't push them to do something or get angry with them if they clearly say they can't. the best thing to do is get clarification from corporate and then show that to a member of management, since even with proof a cashier is likely going to need to call a manager anyways.

It's a shame it looks like this deal is coming to an end... it was a good way to save money :/

Hiwent to the service desk to ask first, and one person said no, and the other yes. When I brought one back to try it went through with no problem at all.
