News Round Up 2016

I've thought for AGES (and said it many times) that Apple should be sponsoring the Imagination Pavillion and pay to FIX it up. They could have demos of their latest technologies on the exit area as well as set up more interactive systems. It seems like this would be good for both Disney AND Apple. Which is probably why it will never happen.

Microsoft had something like that at Disneyland several years ago with the resurrected House of the Future. Windows wasn't the focus, but they did showcase some of the new technology and the new Windows phones. I'm biased towards Windows, but I thought it was done very well and wasn't overly branded

I took my daughter to see the Little Mermaid when it was back in theaters a few years back. It was heavily advertised as being "interactive" with lyrics to songs and such. Come to find out it was for ipads only. So, during the movie, several times we had to just sit there as the entire movie paused and the people who had ipads popped bubbles and answered trivia questions. It was incredibly annoying.

Even more annoying is I know how simply it would have been to release that app for android. Less than a days work.

This is ridiculous. Was there in August and they had nothing for the Galaxy 7, several months after it's release but the IPhone 7 is out less than a month and they are adding stuff.

Every store is the same, so not surprising. The shock is a bigger surprise.

I wonder if Steve Jobs (and now his wife) being the largest Disney shareholder have something to do with this? Hmmm.

Not a single thing. Walk into any store anywhere in the US and you'll find the same thing. The reason is very simple.

Android <> Galaxy
iPhone = iPhone

So while Android might be 70% of the market, the numbers are very very different when you compare models.

While estimates are not easy to find, the Galaxy S6 models sold roughly 50 million units.
The iPhone 6S models sold roughly 200 million units. Add in the fact they use the same cases and style as the 6 models, and there are roughly 400-500 million units.

So, if you are going to make products for smartphones - which one do you make? The one for 500 million? The one for 50 million? And if you are going to bet on a new phone, which one do you bet on? The one that sells 30-50 million units? Or the one that sells 200 million units?

So Android sales are > than iPhone.
But iPhone sales are many times greater than any single Android model. So, Apple gets the shelf space and support. I bet if Disney released numbers, we'd see 5X the accessory sales for iPhone. That's what you see from most retail sites.

with all the Apple discussion - don't you wonder why Apple's presence at the Disney parks isn't more obvious, other than sales of iPhone products I mean. I wonder why they don't sponsor an attraction - or maybe they do and I just don't know about it, being one of those Androidits.
I don't think Apple wants to sponsor an attraction. I think it would be cool if they did but then that might make other companies not happy. HP was/is a long time Disney sponsor for example. Apple has always been strong with Disney though. Steve Jobs owned Pixar which Disney bought from him, then Steve was on the Disney board of directors before he passed and currently his wife if one of Disney's largest stockholders.

Exactly, android has hundreds of different models of phones. Apple only has iPhone.

Another leaving, we should be getting more characters not less. Even though you can meet him else where, they're still taking him away.

When the Mad Hatter started meeting, he replaced the White Rabbit. New news on if that's happening or if we will just be down.

But overall, we should be netting about 0 change which is pretty normal:
Lose (this weekend) - Woody/Jessie, Rafiki, Hatter
Gain (this weekend) - Muppets show (puppeteers and performer)
Gain (eventually) - Elena, Moana [though these additions could create changes later in the year]

This is pretty similar to how character changes have happened in the last year

Rumor

I cannot name a source here but I assure you it isn't Jim Hill. According to the source Universal is eyeing up DC rights from Six flags when the contract for them ends (I don't know a specific date for this), and then would rethemed their marvel attractions to DC working a deal with Disney to give them marvel rights. There have been plenty of rumors regarding Disney possibly getting the rights.

Interesting. I've said it before - Uni needs to sell their rights to Marvel while they can still get good money for them. How much will they be worth when DCA's new Marvel Land makes Uni's Marvel area look like even more of a turd than it already is?
