The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: I don't usually run at night, but sometimes I do run in the late afternoon and up here, in the middle of winter, it's starting to get dark at 3:30 pm. Last year I got these Nightrunner 270 shoe lights for Christmas. They are rechargeable LED headlights for your shoes, and they are very bright. I like them better than a headlamp. They also have a rear facing red light so people behind you can see them. http://nightrunner270.com/

ATTQOTD: I am mostly an early morning runner, usually starting between 4 and 4:30 am. The neighborhood is pretty well lit up. I wear mostly light colored clothing to be visible to the 1 to 2 cars I see moving around during the run.

I do have a Tracer 360 I wear sometimes, usually when I run in the evenings and more cars are out and about.

During the relay a couple weeks back, it seemed like the Tracer attracted the cars towards me while running down the highway.

QOTD: Todays question is a little off topic but relevant to the thread. From 11/13 to 11/20 I am heading home (WDW) and have a fairly busy schedule that may not allow for much DIS time. So the question is, who would yall like to be the QOTD poster for a week? Or would it be easier for whoever post the first question that day becomes the QOTD? Anyone want to volunteer for a week, and if we have a couple takers we could have a vote or split up the days... The last option is the QOTD takes a week off as well?

ATTQOTD: I'm open to any and all ideas suggested by the group.

I think you pick one person for the first day, then each day the QOTD person gets to pick a new person for the next day. Since this was my idea, however, you cannot pick me first.

I like @opusone 's idea. Either way I think you should pick. You could even pick one person for each day.

Great suggestion from @opusone. :thumbsup2 That idea gets my vote.

@LSUlakes I have two races to add to my schedule.

@roxymama 11/19 Ditka Dash 5k, Chicago, IL un-timed race so NG
@roxymama 12/3 Santa Hustle 5k, Chicago,IL NG
I'll probably be slow for the first one because I'll be running with like 6 friends for fun. I'll probably be fast for the second one because I will be cold and want to go home.

Can you also add one that I forgot to add. @roxymama 10/8 St. Xavier Cougar Run 5k, Chicago, IL 27.49 PR :)

ATYQOTD: I keep saying I'm going to run in the dark and I keep chickening out. I like to run in the morning but I haven't been able to get a run in during the week lately. I'm hoping to get a treadmill soon or join the gym.... I'm dragging my feet. I really miss running that often. I'm down to 2 days a week if I get Saturday and Sunday in.

There is a local run coming up but it seems really disorganized, I'm worried I'm going to hate it, but it's for a good cause and local. Is the experinace that's bad if that runnis poorly run? Should I just skip it?

This stomach bug from earlier this week and the catching up from missed time at work plus the feeling of just feeling week is negatively effecting my running goals for the month. I'm on about 3.5 hours of sleep today and a lot of work to get done. All I want to do is continue to plan my WDW trip (thinking of starting a pre trip thingy) and get my runs in. Adult life says work and no fun. Not looking good for 200 mile this month :(

ATTQOTD: Yes, I would love to come with you on your vacation to WDW. Thank you for asking. :)

(also Fifth to opusone's suggestion)

The trip includes 5 mile at 6:30 AM before heading to the parks... But the reward is a warm cinnamon roll at Gastons Tavern for the days we head to MK. I actually have a place holder for this to happen on my schedule our first day. lol

Congrats on the PR!

I frequently run in the dark on weekday mornings through my neighborhood. There are streetlights and I might see like one car and that's about it, maybe some deer. I could probably up my reflective game though because I do run in the road, so I'll have to work on that.

@LSUlakes Have a great WDW trip!! I am currently planning a WDW trip that my kids don't know about yet, so I expect a recap when you get back!

:tigger:

Running in the dark question: I try to avoid running in the dark if I can. When I do, it's because the sun is setting towards the end of my run. Thankfully, I live in an area that is well lit and has a lot of sidewalks so I avoid running on the road when I can. I know running on the sidewalk doesn't provide the best cushioning but even though I am constantly on the lookout for cars, I know cars aren't necessarily looking for me.
