Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Did I read correctly that with the QS dining plan you don't get refillable mugs? It's always been my understanding that QS came with resort mugs also. asking because we always get the regular Disney dining plan & are considering the QS plan this summer since we don't plan on eating table service meals. We are straight up water drinkers most of the time..but at Disney...we think the coke is magical!!! Lol!
Thanks!
I think the original poster was referring to the QS meal deal offer for the summer, not the QS dining plan. With the QS meal deal, you just got one free QS meal a day, so it doesn't include the mug. This is separate from buying the QS dining plan, which DOES include the mug.

I know that a lot of these things are small, but they really did equate to a subpar stay at POP. I have stayed at many Disney resorts and have never had the issues that I had a POP.

Ugh. That sucks. Seems like most of your issues were mosquito related. And so random, since it was just your room. Someone must have left the door open for a while in that room at night before you checked in. Otherwise they were breeding in there somewhere. Eww. Complaining about insects is hard, unless they are bed bugs, or German cockroaches, or insects considered "dirty" and not just "native" to that area.

Yeah, the old, shabby rooms suck. I too think they wait too long to refurbish. It's unacceptable. One time we went the cafeteria benches were hideous. Ripped and broken.

I would complain about the employee's attitude more than anything. How he handled it could have made you have a much better stay. Unfortunately, I think your schedule played a part since you got back to the room so late (and tired) to do anything about the situation. Not that I'm saying it's your fault AT ALL, or you are to blame, just the circumstances... but I would definitely complain about the employee.

I'm not sure what Disney does "after the fact," especially since they expect you to complain right then and there so they can make it right.

Sorry your experience was so bad. Makes me really hope for a refurbished room in November!

I wish they would have an option for the refillable mug where you opt not to take it home (same price) but you can scan your magic band and get one filled so long as you return the one you previously "rented" that way to/from room or buses you could get a fresh cup and not worry about hauling it around all day. I never bring mine home because my suitcase is already stuffed

I like your idea, but think they could do what you said AND give still give a refillable mug. Since they are provided the cups for free, I believe, it wouldn't cost them any more. I'd even be willing to pay a few more dollars for your option, for said option. If I pay $18 I want the mug as a souvenir :rotfl2:

Do they offer different mugs or different cover lids? If our group gets 2 or 3 something to differentiate then would be nice.

Also, can they ONLY be used at the POP, or can they be used at other resorts like AoA?

Nice catch! It looks like a question about the "QS dining plan" came from a post about the "QS Meal Deal"

The mugs all have the same pattern, but the lids have recently been red, green, blue, purple, and pink, depending on what is in stock. I have also seen older ones with yellow. The handles used to coordinate with the lid, then disappeared, and are now currently back, but are white. The mugs will work at any resort QS or pool bar, regardless of where you purchase and activate it. No parks, unfortunately.

I will be there first week of August and booked a preferred room. Anyone have any guesses if the Murphy beds are big and strong enough for a grown adult? I'm just apprehensive about it and don't want to sleep 2 people in one real bed...I booked 2 real beds, I want 2 real beds.

There will be 2 "real" beds in the room. These are not little Murphy beds like the moderates have. The Inovabed is a standard platform bed with a 8" or 12" mattress. It just happens to fold up against the wall and converts to a table It will be equal in quality to the queen bed in the room and will easily hold 2 adults. My adult sons have both slept on the Inovabed in the AoA suites and said it was more comfortable than most hotel beds they had slept in. I found it way more comfortable than the queen bed in the suite. If you end up in a renovated room you have nothing to worry about -- there will be 2 real beds.

Hope you're happy to hear that your information is incorrect. The QS meal plan DOES include refillable mugs!

From Disney's site:
Make the most of your Magic Your Way® Package Plus Quick-Service Dining with this handy guide that outlines the details of what’s included and how to use your dining plan.

Each Guest ages 3 and over will also receive:
• A refillable drink mug eligible for refills at self-service beverage islands at Quick-Service locations at any Disney Resort hotel

I don't have the regular QS dining plan, so sorry for that confusion. I booked with the Summer QS Meal Deal -- these are the details for this specific deal.

The details: Guests receive one free quick service meal per day of their stay; this package must be booked by February 12 for arrivals on MOST night between May 20 through August 24. This vacation deal is only available when you book a non-discounted room and ticket package with a minimum stay of 3 nights. A purchase of a 2-day Magic Your Way base ticket is required. (The details say it's good for a 5-day/6-night stay but the minimum is 3 nights). No refillable mugs or snack credits are available with this package.

Whew! Ok I was worried it would be some little bitty thin fold down crap.

@Disney_traveler, this is a picture (taken by @DavidHobart) that shows the 2 mattresses in one of the newly renovated rooms. Both look super comfy thankfully.

One week from now we should be finishing up unpacking our rooms, or taking a nap!

Our, only request for our room(s) were connecting, in hopes that that will increase our chances. We're also not doing online check in/room selection. As much as a pain as onsite check in might be, we figured it's probably the better choice just in case theirs an issue. I'll also need to connect my CC to my MB anyways, so might as well take care of things at the same time

Should we still fax in, or contact the resort, our room requests a few days before we arrive? I had to call in a month ago, for a question about park tickets and verified that our request for connecting rooms was still entered.

Also, while unbelievably unlikely, I'd love to get connecting renovated rooms. Would that be something that we should ask about when we are checking in next Tuesday? Again, I wouldn't mind making that request now, but don't want to do anything that could decrease our chances of getting.connecting rooms.

Looking for some opinions before I do my on-line check-in. I have a preferred room booked. Where are your favorite preferred rooms and why? I know it's either 50's, 60's or 70's, but just curious what people like best!

I had a Preferred room on my first POP stay (earlier this year). I requested 70s and loved my location! Room 0161, building 10 (Big Wheel) ground floor facing the courtyard at the end closest to Classic Hall. Super convenient to food and buses, and I really had no issues with noise/traffic. I felt like even the Standard rooms in the 70s were pretty convenient to the central areas.

Slightly off topic, but not terribly. Please remind me of what holds or charges are put on your card at check-in.

If you booked a room only and still owe them $$, then that is due upon Check In. If you booked a package or if your room only is 100% paid, they do not charge anything or put any type of hold upon Check in.

Do they hold anything up front for incidentals?

No.

Charge your card for everything at check-out? I vaguely recall having to settle up mid way thru and then again at check-out? Thanks in advance.

It depends. Once you hit $1000 of room charges, your Credit Card on file will get charged. If you are ready to check out and have not hit the $1000 limit, then around 2-3AM on the morning you check out your credit card will be charged. So if you wanted to pay your balance by some other means than the Credit Card on file, then you will need to settle this up on the night BEFORE you check out.

Have any of you had luck faxing your request yourself for room preferences? I have done this in the past at other resorts but wondering if it works for Pop. Also, how many days before do you recommend for sending a fax.

Just an FYI, I believe the Value resorts have a $1500 limit (though they tend to charge your card sooner that that so you don't hit your limit while you're out in the parks). At least that was our experience the last 2 times we were at AoA (2015 & 2016). Our card wasn't charged until we were at about $1200.

Wow how do you charge 1200? I'm not sure I could do that. I'm somewhat of a penny pincher. I may splurge this time. My whole cost for my nine day stay was 1400.00

I kinda wondered the same thing at first but depending on the size of your family, if you choose to pay for food using a credit card, those costs alone would quickly add up!! Dining at Disney (or any theme park, event location) comes at a cost. We travel with the dining plan but we still see what it would have cost us for a character meal if we were paying OOP and one of those alone for a family of 4 can be well over $200!

I thought that too, and even one really nice piece of art will set you back that much. I can totally see how this can be done. We are doing two meals OOP of this time. One is Ohana's and one for the Boathouse. I've only ever done OOP the first time I was ever at Disneyworld so I can really say what I spent becuase that was over ten years ago.

Dining! I expect our dining to be around $3,000.00 for a family of four. Doing Quick dining and Table Service dining combinations over a period of 16 nights.

We usually get Free Dining but not this trip. Our cost is usually just the upgrade to include Table Service. This is our first trip as a family (aside from Disneyland) where we will be paying for dining.

Ouch, that would do it.
