Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Well, that's kind of depressing. We'll be at YC for the first time this October, and I know that we all would love the existing decor in the lobby. I'll keep the booking as is and we'll see how we like it. If we don't, we can just go to BC next time we want to stay in that vicinity (which won't happen for a few years anyway).

Thanks for the link to the video. It doesn't show the Sand Castle Club or the quiet pool, but overall, I think it does a pretty great job of pointing out the highlights. Really looking forward to our stay later this fall!

I see in pictures of the refurbished rooms that there's a Keurig machine. What is the selection of coffee like? Should I bring some k-cups so DH and I aren't fighting over who gets the caffeinated dark roast?

So, I was wrong about the globe, and my apologies for the confusion (long story). I spoke at length with one of the CMs at the CL desk, and apparently the globe WAS refurbished, and then the powers-that-be decided it wouldn't fit with the new decor.

Excuse me? New decor?

They're re-doing the lobby once all the room refurbs are done. And the CM's understanding is that the new look will be similar to the look of the Ale & Compass Marketplace. A more modern, convention-y hotel appearance.

"In other words," I said, "the complete antithesis of everything we've come to expect from a Disney resort?"

"Yes." He wasn't happy. I know I'm not.

The earliest we'd be back to YC would be 2019, and I would assume this will all be done by then, so I'm going to reserve judgment. While I think I liked A&CM better than some, I don't like it well enough to see it take over that gorgeous lobby.

Anyway, I'll post a more extensive review soon, including view pics from 5170 and thoughts on the AC situation.
:sad2: Sad news about the globe. Also it seems with each room Reno it gets more and more generic looking, taking away all the special Disney and resort specific touches. I esp loved the lamps in the room. The Nautical Mickey.

Well, we hit another milestone today. Woke up bright and early to make ADR's, and I have to say that this is the easiest time we've ever had with reservations. We had no issue with either selections or times. Absolutely none. I'm really surprised, as we'll be there during Free Dining, so I expected the table service crowds to be tough.

We didn't go for either BOG or CRT, but we got our exact days and times at some of the more difficult ones. Both a breakfast and dinner at Ohana, Crystal Palace at one of the few non-MVMCP nights, Akershus, Via Napoli, etc.

We usually have decent luck, but there's almost always some compromise. Not this time. I actually told my wife that it went so easily, I was worried.

Some speculate that Disney is moving away from resort tiers (value, moderate, deluxe) and this is part of the leveling of amenities. Another example is that the Pop refurbs are adding coffee makers, a queen bed and Murphy bed that is *possibly* queen-sized. Very interesting changes a-foot

They'll never be able to level the resort tiers. Pop Century could never begin to compare with Beach Club or Polynesian in terms of location, room quality, dining, pools, etc., unless they bulldozed the resort and started over.

I haven't seen any changes indicating that they're trying to reduce the amenities of the deluxe resorts. It would be counterproductive for them to do so, as they make massive profits off the deluxe resorts. They're likely removing ceiling fans from some deluxes so that all of the deluxes will have the same amenities, not so they can put the deluxes on the same level as the mods and values.

I'm sure they're doing everything they can to make the mods and values more appealing, so they can get DVC in there, but that's not the same as un-tiering the resort categories. It is very much in Disney's interest to keep the resort categories separate.

However, I do agree that very poor decorating choices are being made with the deluxe resort refurbishments that have occurred over the past few years. Such a loss of quality theming!

I just finished editing and narrating a complete video tour of the Beach Club Resort in 4K. I hope this helps either bring back great memories for some and helps others plan their stay! Enjoy!!

Great Video! Thank You. :disrocks:

It seems to us that the new person in charge of the resort refit wants the hotel to look like the rooms ( at a more realistic reduced price rate) over at The Four Seasons resorts, even their restaurants look more in line with the new A&CM.
What's with the menu at HH too? Lunch is a limited range and the pool bar now open at night 19:00-21:00 seems to be the only place offering burgers now and the lunch hours 11:00 -19:00 have changed too!

There are two menus. The "pool bar" one has the burger. The "lunch" one does not.

Why are they differentiating HH and "pool bar?" Isn't it the same thing?

Perhaps all the CM (and CMs famously give out wrong information) only meant that there will be some repainting. The lobby, and the hallway to Yachtsman might just get the same navy/cream paintjob, which would not be the end of the world.

Here are a couple of photos of the beverage set-up in refurbed rooms at YC. Housekeeping will bring extras, upon request. BTW, the K-Cups toward the back are tea.

I forgot to walk over to the quiet pool. I'll get it next time. As for the Sand Castle Club, it was closed when I was making the video, and I'm not sure they would have wanted me taking video there with everyone else's children around. We have a one year-old, so maybe we'll let him go in there when he's a little older. :-)

You are very welcome! I hope you two have an amazing trip at Christmas!

I was simply restating what others have been saying... I know they won't be able to make them all equal, but I do think that at some point we may see the end of the "value" resort category. Will the current Value resorts reach $500/night - of course not! But, you refurb the room with nicer beds and amenities, add in gondola access to Epcot and DHS (for Pop/AoA), and you're looking at pricing more in line with Moderates. And, I feel like they will figure out a way to "improve" the All-Stars OR they decide keep those as Values with the intention that they will be used mostly by all the sports and competition families who need close access to WWoS.

Anyhoo - Sorry to side-track the thread!

Hi everyone! I haven't delurked in a while but I had a question and was hoping that someone can help me out?

Regarding the adult beverages sold in BC Marketplace, I am curious as to the size (ml) of the Jose Cuervo tequila bottle and the cost. We are ordering beer and wine from GG but since we are staying in a 1BR villa, we plan on having more snacks and easy dinners in the room (which then leads to margaritas...)

Any info would be most appreciated! Thanks!

Has anyone been able to give you a price on this?

If not, could someone check on alcohol prices while there?

Hi everyone! We are home from our YC CL stay. I thought I'd pop in and post a few things about our experience. We arrived at the resort about 9:30 AM. There wasn't a CM waiting outside, but the valet called someone from bell services to take us up to the lounge. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure we could have just gone up on our own. Stopped at the desk to make sure everything was in order and were served the famous "welcome drink". Hello, let the vacation begin! As far as our room, we got a text that the room was ready at 8:30 AM (earliest ever!). We were given 5198, which is a garden view. The new rooms are very nice. I didn't think I'd be a fan of the flooring, but I actually kind of liked it once seeing it in person. 5198 has a king bed with a chair and a shower (no tub). We had requested a king room close to the lounge, so they did a good job accommodating these requests. All the CM's we encountered in the lounge were great. Everyone super friendly and helpful. We felt the food/beverage selections in the lounge were really good. If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to try and answer! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for your review and the detailed description of your room!

::yes::

Shoreward, thank you for the photos of the coffee! We'll probably toss a package of k cups into the luggage just to be on the safe side (and whatever DH doesn't use on the trip can get taken in to work). I just hate it when hotels give you only enough for real coffee (not decaf) for one person.

I am planning on ordering grocery delivery for my Christmas stay at BC. Just curious anout the more recent reviews on delivery and which companies have been positive. Also my son will eat two or more bowls of cereal each day and I wondered what size of milk would fit in the fridge?
