Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

HOPE YOU BOTH HAVE A BLAST!!!

Someone was looking for booze prices from the Marketplace. Tequila, specifically.

If you make it over to the YC for some reason, see if anyone will tell you what floor they are working on now (or go exploring). My guess is 3rd floor is complete or close to it and 2nd is underway, but I haven't seen any on-the-spot confirmation of that.

If I think of anything else, I'll tag you!

Thanks!

Dee

Thanks!!

No problem at all :)

We've got a ADR at Yachtsman so I'll find out when we're in there :)

So, I was wrong about the globe, and my apologies for the confusion (long story). I spoke at length with one of the CMs at the CL desk, and apparently the globe WAS refurbished, and then the powers-that-be decided it wouldn't fit with the new decor.

Excuse me? New decor?

They're re-doing the lobby once all the room refurbs are done. And the CM's understanding is that the new look will be similar to the look of the Ale & Compass Marketplace. A more modern, convention-y hotel appearance.

"In other words," I said, "the complete antithesis of everything we've come to expect from a Disney resort?"

"Yes." He wasn't happy. I know I'm not.

IMO, the decor of the Market at Ale & Compass is very minimalist - more of a "beachy" vibe, than a yacht club vibe. The dark wood and rich colors have more of an upscale yacht club look.

The Fittings & Fairings temporary set-up is due to move back to its regular location by the end of July. The Captain's Grille work is supposed to complete by the end of September. I presume they wouldn't start any lobby work till all of the other work is completed and moved back to their normal locations. By then, it's October. Depending on scope of work, would they start at that time? I would think they would not have the lobby in disrepair during the holidays, especially with all of the special decorations and a full house. So many people pass through that lobby, just to see and photograph the decorations. As with the room refurbishments, let's hope that Disney gives sufficient notice about any lobby construction.

Again, CMs are frequently wrong about these things, or we could be talking about coats of paint, new flooring/rugs etc. I have a hard time believing they are dismantling the entire lobby. Has any Disney lobby ever completely been reimagined? Even at the Poly, while they removed the waterfall, The outskirts of the lobby remained intact, and the overall feel remained similar, if a bit stark. Let's wait and see if this comes to fruition, and hope for the best-either that the lobby we love stays the same, or that we are nuts about any refurbishments that they do! :thumbsup2

I am with you and hope that when I visit in December the train display is up and the tree is standing and the garland is hung. Won't be right if it isn't.

I have some very, very sad news to share.

Last week, my dear friend Rebecca (HockeymomR), passed away. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after returning from a family trip to the Beach Club in August 2016. Throughout all of her treatments, she was brave and strong and had a positive spirit. Her mantra was "Just Keep Swimming", and she always had a smile on her face, no matter what struggles she faced.

She was a frequent poster here on the Beach Club FAQ forum for more than a decade, always willing to provide helpful info, a picture and friendship to others.

She had many "Disney friends" who were an important part of her life and who will miss her immensely.

I was fortunate to share two trips to the Beach Club with her as one of her roommates. Our friendship extended beyond our mutual interest in Disney. We spent the past few months frequently talking about our day, sharing pictures, exchanging encouragement and love.

The world has lost a very kind soul.

While she was in hospice for her final days, I wrote a letter about our friendship and emailed it to Rebecca and her husband. I wanted to explain how much Rebecca means to me and why. It was healing for me to write about how our deep bond developed throughout the years.

I have added the tribute to Rebecca in the Orange Banded Monkey trip report. That is probably the best place for any remembrances or condolences you want to share.

I pop in and out of this thread, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss!

Yes...they are now working on 2nd floor. The 3rd floor finished the very end of May.

Oh good. I've got a YC night coming up end of July. Just one, wish it was more! DH is a BC snob, but YC was the only thing available, and I assumed that was due to the construction. Seeing that they're starting floor 2 now makes me hopeful that we will be in one of the new rooms, I have k-cups ready to travel!

So sorry to hear about Rebecca - while planning our anniversary trip a couple years ago, I was more active here, and always looked forward to hearing the antics of those monkeys. So sad to hear of your friend's passing.

It's about the AC, not the fans. The concerns over the motion sensors has me wondering. If all resorts have that now then I would just deal with it.

There are two menus. The "pool bar" one has the burger. The "lunch" one does not.

Why are they differentiating HH and "pool bar?" Isn't it the same thing?

Glad to read this, I didn't notice they had two menus now and I thought they had gotten rid of the grilled chicken sandwich which made me really sad!

12 days until our BC portion of our 2 week WDW getaway! Just stopping in to share my happiness! I can't wait to be back! I wish we were staying CL at BC - but it just wasn't in the finances to do both CL at BC and Poly ... so we picked Poly CL for the 4th of July week instead. So excited for our time at SAB and to walk into Epcot so easily. Yay!!

Same here! Looks like we're checking in the same day. BC is the second part of our almost-2 week stay (I got 13 nights out of DH but for some reason he just couldn't go a full two weeks  :confused3)
