Pop Century Room Renovations

We were there a couple of weeks ago. I took a peek at the reno. Seemed to me the majority of the rooms on the bottom floor were connecting (that's all I could see).

Half the rooms in each building at Pop are connecting rooms -- 18 sets (for a total of 36 rooms) on each floor of each building. Pop has the largest number of connecting rooms out of all of the Disney resorts. You can see the layout of the floors on this map:

Once the refurbishment is complete, there may be a few changes to the room types indicated on this map, but I don't think they will be altering the number of connecting rooms.

The Gondolas are going to take years to build (it took them months to finish a single building for the refurb). To the people who are up in arms regarding this project, you will have years to get used to it. The buses will be here for a while!

Thanks for the quick answers. Another question - my family loves Disney, but does it ever seem like the adults are actually more excited than the children? We are going back in September - first time at Pop Century - and I have been looking at every Disney site for 6 months now because I'm so excited every time I go back.

I looked but couldn't find my answer - are there any connecting rooms in the remodeled parts? I would like a new room, but need to have connecting for family.

In the link above this picture shows the connecting door .... but note it will not be guaranteed. So the fewer rooms that are completed the lower the chance it will be fulfilled. It depends on when your trip is and how many rooms are done.

Look around when you are at Disney, LOTS of adults in groups with no children. I know for the last few years, I've noticed the adults way outnumber the kids. I think that is why we are seeing more adult oriented activities and even these rooms in POP feel very adult. One reason I like POP is I find lots of adults here vs the AllStars.

I think POP theme is more appealing to adults, not many kids are interested on all the old school decorations, is more nostalgic for adults than kids, while I'm super excited about the icons my kids for sure don't have a clue what a eighth track is, they recognized is the Yo-yo and the rubik cube and they have not seen classic movies featured in this resort

THANK YOU for posting a link to that map! I always wind up getting a connecting room, even though I don't request/want one... this way I know what rooms to avoid for my next visit! I feel like sound travels more through those connecting doors.

The type of system rumored to be used has redundant motors with redundant power supplies, and the cars are not connected directly to the cable. This means even a total power failure of the main motor would not stop the system, and even if a single car has an issue, it can be pulled from the line at a station.

This system is similar to what's being rumored:

Of course, it wouldn't have to be built as high as this one, because there's no ship traffic underneath it, so that would save costs, as well.
Eeek.

We're a childless couple in our early 30's and we love Disney World. The only thing that my wife likes that I have no interest in is character meet-and-greets. I'm there for the rides, atmosphere, and food.

Most adult's definition of a vacation is laying in the sand and pretending they're dead. We'll always prefer Disney World :D
:rotfl2: We have no kids and my husband and I love WDW. We are crazy about all of it, the food, rides, meet & greets, atmosphere, everything! Our idea of a vacation is always going to be WDW....and the dream of DisneyLand maybe someday!!

This ^^ times one millionbazillion.

My daughter (18 at the time, now 25) wanted to give cruising a try so we gave a three night Disney cruise a whirl. Never again. I hated it. I sat around and watched her lay in the sun like the princess she thinks she is princess:, read on and off and generally lost my mind due to boredom. That's not to say there wasn't a lot to do on a Disney cruise, there certainly was. It just wasn't the vacation for me. Thank goodness I only booked three nights!

The room style is growing on me.

Now that I've seen the refurbed rooms compared to the "old" rooms I like them even more. The old rooms were rather bland as well.

New question: In the "foot locker" closet does the piece at the top open for storage as well? It seems a waste if not. That would be a great spot for unused pillows.

Yep, that side by side comparison = WOW. We only stayed there 1 night in 2015, but I was always willing to go back. This makes me excited!

My daughter (9 at the time) loved the theme of Pop. We had so much fun exploring the resort while I explained to her what the various items were. It was nostalgic for me, and fun for her to see how Mom (and Grandma) lived. She was thrilled about the Big Wheel. Our room looked right over it and she thought it was the coolest thing. It can really be a neat experience- sharing the childhood stories with your kids.

I never enjoyed or understood playing dead. I was telling a colleague of mine about my upcoming solo trip and he said, "I'll bet you can't wait to relax without the kids." I said, "Relax? No way! I am kid-free for five days! I want adventure! I'll be going going going at the World. Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride. Nobody gonna slow me down. That's my kind of vacation."

That's one reason I chose Pop. It is such a great resort for an active, solo adult trip.
