Tipsy is as Tipsy Does - A February '17 Dining Adventure - Complete 8/15

And here is a look inside to see the medium rare perfection.
That looks so good! It also looks HUGE compared to yours and Casey's filet!

Casey and I shared the 10z filet, which we ordered with a side of their duck fat potatoes.
Double Yum!

We also got a side of their truffled mac and cheese.
OMG! I might need to go there just for the mac n cheese. That looks soon good. I think we need to try this once Morgan hits 10 (which is sadly not that far away!, ugh) and is considered an adult for the dinning plan. She seriously would eat that filet all by herself. She is a red meat soft as butter steak girl!

thankfully the Great Movie Ride because we didn't know it at the time but this would be our last time through Casey's beloved shooting lady ride. I still haven't had the guts to break it to her that it is gone. She is going to be devastated as she had big plans to be the shooting lady herself one day.
Poor Casey. I am so glad we went on it last time we were there. The girls only knew a few of the movies but they liked it. Not nearly as much as Casey! My girls are still sad about the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground area. (Me not so much)

Your reviews of Yachtsman always make me so jealous! Especially that ribeye and mac & cheese. What a perfect last dinner!

We just ate at Yachtsman in July and LOVED everything about it from start to finish...I had the shrimp cocktail, which was delicious, as well as the filet, which was amazing!!!

For our last dinner of the trip we headed to one of our perennial favorites: Yachtsman Steakhouse. And let me tell ya we were really excited to have some steak.

She looks it!

I know this doesn't look like much, and my rare meat hating friends are probably cringing right about now, but I can't overstate how good this filet is.

We ate there once and it was the best meal I've EVER had at WDW. I got the same filet…so good!

We also got a side of their truffled mac and cheese.

That looks amazing! Sorry it wasn't truffle-y enough for you :sad2:

We were too full for dessert, but our waiter was kind enough to bring Casey a birthday cake pop.

Cute

Which sugared her up and apparently drove her into selfie mode as I found these gems on my phone.

HaHa! Adorable!

After dinner we headed over to MGM for some extra magic hours.
You manage to do more in a day than anyone I've ever met! I would be rolling into bed after that!

We were able to walk on Toy Story, Star Tours, and thankfully the Great Movie Ride because we didn't know it at the time but this would be our last time through Casey's beloved shooting lady ride. I still haven't had the guts to break it to her that it is gone. She is going to be devastated as she had big plans to be the shooting lady herself one day.

We eventually made it back to AKL where we sadly started to pack up a bit before bed. But thankfully we had a little more park time the next.

   The GMR closing AND packing up to go home!

Casey and I shared the 10z filet, which we ordered with a side of their duck fat potatoes.

I am trying to plan for our meals for our next trip. First time without dining plan and my husband is a little worried. I am not. I know this will work out better in the long run. Especially with the new pricing. I have been looking at the menu for Yachtsman, which is one of my top 2 favorite restaurants in Disney, and don't see the duck fat potatoes. I'm sure I'm missing something. Is there an additional charge for those little beauties? Like there is with the mac and cheese?

They come with butter and roasted garlic, both of which melt perfectly on the soft rolls.
O. M. G. Bread? Good. Butter? Good. Roasted garlic? Good. These alone would have been :cloud9: for me!

Which sugared her up and apparently drove her into selfie mode as I found these gems on my phone.
That kid... :rotfl:

and thankfully the Great Movie Ride because we didn't know it at the time but this would be our last time through Casey's beloved shooting lady ride. I still haven't had the guts to break it to her that it is gone. She is going to be devastated as she had big plans to be the shooting lady herself one day.
Awww, poor Casey! I am devastated about this ride myself. Casey is in good company :sad1:

Hi all, before I get started on replies I just wanted to share my excitement that 3 months from today we will be in Disney World. This is the longest we've ever gone between trips in a long time and I am seriously in need of a disney fix. 3 months seems like forever, but fingers crossed it goes as fast as the last 3 cause his summer is flying by.

Oh, wow. You are making me seriously regret not having Yachtsman in the lineup for my next trips. I've said this before but oh how I love those onion rolls. And the steak is pretty good too. :D So sad your trip is winding down.
We've done Yachtsman so many times at this point I'm not sure we could even do a trip without :-) Between the rolls and the steak, it had us at hello

I looove Yachtsman steakhouse  We always have it for our last night meal ( though if we have free dining plan we have been known to eat there twice on some trips). Seriously the best bread rolls I've ever eaten! Only hardship is trying not to stuff myself on them so I have room for steak:rotfl:They once lost our order and comped us our bottle of wine for the delay which was like winning the lottery as it happened to be a night when we'd pushed the boat out wine wise lol
Glad you had a great meal for your last night :goodvibes
Cheers to the last night Yachtsman dinner club :drinking1 You are so right, best rolls ever and I don't even like onion that much. Is it bad I'm wishing next time Yachtsman looses our order :confused3

I love reading the reviews on this board, but don't usually comment. However, I just love your reviews so much that I just had to tell you. You all always look like you have so much fun together and Casey is adorable. I also love all the drink reviews! I agree that vacation is much better for everyone if mom gets to have some adult beverages! Your review of Yachtsman made me very glad I made a reservation there for our January trip. We have been once before and loved it but it's been a few years so definitely time to go back! Now if I could just decide between Citricos and California Grill!
Hi there, thanks so much for saying that. It really does mean a lot. Me and the family certainly do have a lot of fun (and drinks) and its great to keep the spirit of the trip going by writing about it.

I hope you all enjoy Yachtsman as much as we did. While you didn't ask (and I'm sure @ariane37 can provide the counter argument), I'd go California Grill all the way. Citricos is not bad by any means, but I find they have menu items that we could find at home whereas California Grill is a bit more unique and special.

Those steaks look wonderful. But the duck fat potatoes look absolutely heavenly! Wow. :cloud9:
You got that right, heavenly on both counts!

:p I'm reading this to get excited for trying YS when we go in Sep, and it's working already.
While I'm infinitely jealous that you are going next month, I may just be more jealous that you get to have Yachtsman. Hope you and Josh love it

That also sounds wonderful! I just called Josh in to show him your meal :rotfl: I think he's confused as to why, but I told him I wanted to show him all the delicious food we'd be trying.
Well apologize to Josh for my bad photos on this one, but tell him he is in for steak perfection :-)

I had been thinking on our next trip to sub the duck fat potatoes with my filet when we do YSH. Your description is making it more likely. Sorry about Jason's sweet potato miss. I asked last year about it as a sub for the mashed that come with the filet and our waitress warned me it was very sweet so I went with my standby sub potato gratin.
I wasn't sure if I could sub the duck fat potatoes since they are only on the menu with the porterhouse, but thankfully it wasn't a problem. I've had the mashed ones and gratin before too and the duck fat are hands down the best potato on the menu. No chance you will be disappointed.

We just discovered YS on our last trip and it immediately became one of my favorite restaurants on property! I love that they know how to cook a steak to the right doneness and the seasoning is perfect. My DH wasn't able to eat that meal because he had an emergency appendectomy mid trip :crutches:(yes, it was a crazy trip) so I'm excited for him to try it in December.
Yachtsman definitely knows what they are doing when it comes to steak. Don't know if you experienced the same thing, but when we first ate there and they put the steak down I was so less than disappointed. It looked overly chared and dry and then I cut in and perfection ensued. They definitely know what they are doing.

Oh no, your poor husband. Hope his redemption trip is MUCH better than the first :-)

We've only been there once but when the roasted garlic came out we were in heaven. It was so hard not to fill up on it!
I know, right? I think I could go there and just eat rolls and garlic and still leave a very happy girl

Sometimes people are surprised that we'll let Chris order filet at restaurants because of the price, but he loves it and as long as it's good we don't mind. Seriously if the food is GOOD we don't mind paying $$$ for it at all, we just love food THAT MUCH.
We are definitely good loving families. Of course I almost always share with Casey since she eats like a bird, but if she asked for her own filet I'd be all over it. The way I see other kids eat I think it may be up to you and I to raise the next generation of disney foodies :P

It looks delicious other than being too red for me, however if I (or anyone) tried sharing a 10oz. anything with Chris he'd bite fingers lol
I could devour the 10oz no problem myself, were it not for all those dang aforementioned rolls

Chiming in here. I am not a big drinker by any stretch but love trying fruity cocktails on vacay, just one or two like you. Usually not an issue at all because like you said, drinks are expensive which leads to more tips...but one time I was at Kona Cafe at the Poly with my DD (who was 9 at the time) I was having a hard time choosing between two of their cocktails and so I asked our server "which one is better?" and she got a kind of judgey face on and said "well I don't drink so I've never tried either" and I was kind of annoyed that she said that. I mean because I am so not a big drinker and she was acting like I'm some boozer. I have no problem with the fact that anyone does or does not drink - to each is own...but a server in a restaurant that serves cocktails, when asked...maybe should not say it with that tone. She could have just said "well the X is the most popular..." or some other way to answer without throwing in a big of judgement...

Sorry to digress...that was the only time I've ever encountered that...every other time I've had cocktails with kids, they seem very happy about it.
Wow, I can't believe the waitress said that, though of course at Kona very little surprises me :P And you are so right any good server would have led you to the most popular or at least the most expensive items :-)I think I would have said, oh ok if you don't recommend any I won't have the 3 or 4 I planned on and you can just watch your tip go downhill :P

OMG you are making me want to go there just for that bread. I'm such a carboholic and that sounds so yummy. I wonder if you can go and just order the bread lol. I don't eat a lot of steak because while I love the taste it doesn't seem to agree with me...but that bread sounds worth the trip!
You most definitely should try Yacthsman, aren't you headed down soon???? I had my gallbladder removed a few years back so steak isn't always my friend, but a little bit of Yachtsman in moderation is all worth it.

Really?? Does that ever happen??? I am so hoping there is a time when I can get on that ride without a FP so there is hope of going more than once on our trip!
This was extra magic hours, but it did indeed happen. We rarely do the extra magic hours so I can't talk if it happens often, but this night was not an issue at all. We've also gotten it as an extra pass after a day at Epcot

Your Yachtsman pictures are making me so hungry! I love their bread, I think I could go there just for the bread alone. I made a reservation for this weekend I can't wait to go back.
You and me both on the bread (and wine of course). Can't wait to see how your trip is!

What an amazing last meal! Even more amazing is that Casey will share a rare steak with you lol.
It was a great meal!!! Honestly Casey has only ever eaten meat cooked medium rare, so I think she'd wonder what was going on if we served her a well done version :-)

It's funny that you say that, because I was looking at it going "NOPE!" I've just in the recent years started ordering medium well. My mom won't do anything other than well done.
NOPE. What do you mean NOPE. YES, YES, AND YES. But glad to see you are maybe slowly riding down from the well down :-)

I'm sad that I never got to ride it one last time. I'm sure Casey would have been an excellent shooting lady!
I used to berate the ride all the time, but then its pure oldness struck a nostalgic chord for me. Think we'll all be sad, but hopefully the new ride is worth it

Hi all, before I get started on replies I just wanted to share my excitement that 3 months from today we will be in Disney World.
I noticed that earlier! You're right, if it's anything like the last 3 months, it'll be here... tomorrow. Which is exactly how my trip has managed to sneak up on me! Not a complaint, of course, but I'm starting to get that "OMG I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO STILL" feeling :rotfl:

That looks so good! It also looks HUGE compared to yours and Casey's filet!
It was definitely huge. Come to think of it, why am I the one sharing with her when he gets a steak twice the size to himself :-) I'm gonna have to rectify that!

If you love mac and cheese and truffle then you should most definitely try it. My fav on property remains the lobster mac n cheese from Narcoossee's, but this is a very close second.

I can't believe Morgan is going to be ten. I don't know why but double digit ages suddenly seems so old. You'll definitely need to get to Yacthsman before then!

Poor Casey. I am so glad we went on it last time we were there. The girls only knew a few of the movies but they liked it. Not nearly as much as Casey! My girls are still sad about the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground area. (Me not so much)
I still have no idea why casey loved it so much. She really knew none of the movies when she first fell in love with it, it was all that dang shooting lady. She loved the playground area too, but thankfully for me doesn't remember it too much :-)

Your reviews of Yachtsman always make me so jealous! Especially that ribeye and mac & cheese. What a perfect last dinner!
It was quite perfect. So much so I think we'll have to recreate it on our next trip.

We just ate at Yachtsman in July and LOVED everything about it from start to finish...I had the shrimp cocktail, which was delicious, as well as the filet, which was amazing!!!
Yeah, I'm so glad you all loved it too. It is pure meat, gluttonous, perfection!

We ate there once and it was the best meal I've EVER had at WDW. I got the same filet…so good!
It really is amazing. I'm more of a seafood girl, so not my best disney meal ever (Jiko still earns that honor) but definitely best steak ever!

That looks amazing! Sorry it wasn't truffle-y enough for you :sad2:
You could serve truffles on top of truffles with a truffle sauce on a bed of truffles and it wouldn't be truffle-y enough for me :-)

You manage to do more in a day than anyone I've ever met! I would be rolling into bed after that!
Wow. I always feel like we aren't getting much done, since we break for the day in the afternoon and rarely get park time at night. But we did good this day. Though if you ask Casey she says we are eating too much :P

We only ever did the dining plan once, when we got free dining, and we found it wasn't for us. Now we clearly indulge in lots of adult beverages, but as far as food goes we are all about sharing and rarely getting a 3 course meal so the meal plan just isn's for us. So you can tell your husband you are right on my behalf :P

There was no charge for the potatoes. You can sub any of the potato options on the menu. Just not any of the paid sides.

O. M. G. Bread? Good. Butter? Good. Roasted garlic? Good. These alone would have been :cloud9: for me!
Add wine and I think we both have a meal!

hat kid... :rotfl:
She's one of a kind that is for sure :-)

Awww, poor Casey! I am devastated about this ride myself. Casey is in good company :sad1:
I saw they have farewell memorabilia coming out. I'm going to have to try and get her a shirt or something so it can live in infamy

I can't believe Morgan is going to be ten. I don't know why but double digit ages suddenly seems so old. You'll definitely need to get to Yacthsman before then!
Double Digits does seem old! And really, I see difference between Morgan at 9 and Gwen at 7. 7 is still a kid, 9 is slowing becoming more of a teeny tinny adult. Sigh!

How hard is it to get Yacthsman reservations? Maybe I will try for our Feb trip (if it happens)

Hi all, before I get started on replies I just wanted to share my excitement that 3 months from today we will be in Disney World. This is the longest we've ever gone

I'm totally feelin' ya on this one. It's only been a month since we are there and don't go back until mid Nov. I tried to sneak in a quick weekend trip next month over Labor Day but sadly it was a no go. The struggle is real.

Now back to the beauty that is Yachtsman Steakhouse. It's so fabulous, isn't it? And duck fat potatoes, oh my!!

!! I want to o back toYachtsman Steakhouse. We haven't been in years. Mikey is a Ruth's Chris fan, and they have the prefix meant you all the time in Orlando. He says if he's spending $60 on a steak, he may as well get three courses and have his favorite steak with butter on it. I am showing him your photos to try to convince him to go back.

And made this little gem of a video that we didn't even find until after we got home. This girl never ceases to surprise me :-)

HAHA! She is too funny. She loves her some face paint.

Cause you all know I couldn't not get this photo :P

YESSSS. I have been wondering if those are good or not!

While a little light on the tequila, the watermelon and tequila combo was great and this was very refreshing. It wasn't as good as my beloved Annapurna Zing, but continued to prove my theory that there is no better place on property for tipsy drinks.

That sounds delicious.

If you haven't had these before these are Yachtsmans amazing onion rolls and they are hands down the best bread on property. They come with butter and roasted garlic, both of which melt perfectly on the soft rolls. My little butter fiend was in bread and butter heaven and devoured 3 of these little gems.

Ugh I just love these rolls. Sad to hear it's your last dinner and your trip is coming to an end.

I don't remember which was which from the picture and it really doesn't matter because they were all delicious. This was definitely the best cheese plate we'd ever had on property and strangely even beat the random Trader Joe's cheese smorgasbords that are often my dinner.

Um... that was my dinner tonight :rolleyes1

I know this doesn't look like much, and my rare meat hating friends are probably cringing right about now, but I can't overstate how good this filet is. You see a knife in the background, but you really didn't need it as this was so tender a fork could cut it. I was in meat heaven. Speaking of heaven, the duck fat potatoes, which I'd had one time before and loved were even better. These little beauties were cooked in duck fat then were loaded with cheese, onions, garlic, and BACON. Jason had some major potato envy.

That filet looks wonderful. We did the Porterhouse for 2 and it left us kind of meh afterwards but I think the filet is definitely the way to go. And those duck fat potatoes... wowza.

 That was my first thought when I heard it was going away!

Thank you! I'm think I will be factoring in Yachtsman.
Hope you enjoy!

Double Digits does seem old! And really, I see difference between Morgan at 9 and Gwen at 7. 7 is still a kid, 9 is slowing becoming more of a teeny tinny adult. Sigh!

How hard is it to get Yacthsman reservations? Maybe I will try for our Feb trip (if it happens)
i'm not sure I'm ready for teeny adult :-)

Its not hard to get a Yachtsman reservation at all. I think we made this one maybe a day or 2 before at Jason's request for a steak for our last supper

We are usually on a 5-6 month cycle (and maybe sneaking one in between if we can) but since we aren't getting AP's this year that wasn't in the cards. We said we were skipping this year all together, but 9 months was all we could hold out :P Our working theory is we will skip 2018 all together and do Disneyland instead. We'll see how that goes :-)

Yachtsman really is absolutely fabulous. Ya wonder if a steak really can be that good and then it deliver.

That sounds like a great deal. I go to St. Louis for work fairly often and there is a Ruth Chris in the hotel I always stay in. They are definitely good, but I gotta give Yachtsman the win :-)

HAHA! She is too funny. She loves her some face paint.
She really does. And I'd much rather get her that than more crap we gotta lug around and take home with us. I'm such a great mother :-)

YESSSS. I have been wondering if those are good or not!
In case you can't tell from my face, its so good, so good, so good

That filet looks wonderful. We did the Porterhouse for 2 and it left us kind of meh afterwards but I think the filet is definitely the way to go. And those duck fat potatoes... wowza.
We did the Porterhouse once too and were a little underwhelmed. Sticking to the regular old cuts is definitely the way to go.

Aw they weren't bad they were delicious looking photos.
Compared to our regular camera, not the best, but I of course had to go and break it :P

Bangers & Pints

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the last day of disney times. We slept in a bit after our late night, but eventually got all packed up and made it to Ep-A-Cot by 1030. Casey and Jason did Mission Space (I can't handle it) and Casey came off with some astronaut ice cream she'd picked up for herself for breakfast.

Only in Disney!

From there we did our best crash test dummy impersonations

before allowing our already sugared up kid to add some caffeine from club cool to the mix.

We thought we'd hit up some of the Festival of the Arts booths we'd missed on our first trip (aka just about all of them), but Jason wasn't feeling it so we ended up getting a reservation at Rose and Crown about 5 minutes before we walked up to the podium. In all our years of disney we'd never eaten here so we were looking forward to something new.

To start with Jason get a very dapper Boddingtons English Pub Ale

and I went with the Snakebite, which is half cider and half Harp.

The snakebite was very refreshing, but definitely on the heavy side.

As an app to share we got something I'd wanted to try for years, the Scotch Egg.

This according to the menu is a Hard-boiled Cage-free Egg wrapped in Sausage with Mustard Sauce. While for $11 I was disappointed we only got 1 egg, it was very good and tasted just like breakfast with a little mustard on the side. Those crazy British :P

For entree's Casey and I shared the fish and chips which is described as “Rose & Crown’s Signature Dish” Beer-battered and served with House-made Tartar Sauce.

I wasn't very impressed with the chips as they tasted like the thick fries you could get elsewhere in the parks, but a good dousing of vinegar on them reminded us we were in England. The fish on the other hand was incredible. It was perfectly beer battered and fried on the outside and hot and flaky on the inside. We were just sad there was only 1 piece.

For his entree Jason got the Bangers and Mash, Traditional English Sausage with Colcannon Potatoes, Roasted Mushrooms (ick), Caramelized Onion Jam, and Red Wine Demi

I had to steal this photo off the internet as our picture was blurry with a side of fuzziness , but Jason really enjoyed this. I wouldn't take a bite with all those mushrooms in there, but he said the sausage was tasty and the red wine gravy really elevated it. He also got a side of their loaded Yorkshire pudding.

This was ok, but "loaded" just meant lets stick some mashed potatoes in the middle of the pudding. In a strange timing coincidence we had some friends over for a Christmas in July dinner last weekend and Jason made Yorkshire Pudding that was much better than theirs.

As I said earlier, this was our first time and Rose and Crown and it fit the bill. It was a good last minute ADR and while not the best restaurant in the world showcase, they were serving some yummy beers and british fare. I'm sure we'll be back again. With our Tables in Wonderland card we saved $18.40.

We ventured a little bit further into world showcase so someone could spend her last remaining pennies on something from the Japan store. In a strange course of events she went with a fan over candy, which surprised us all.

Before heading out of the park we got our groove on in spaceship earth

and enjoyed some tea for two, spaceship earth style

We eventually made it back to AKL around 3 where we bid the lovely resort jambo before catching the bus to the airport. We were clearly thrilled to be going home.

MCO was uneventful and I'm sure we ate or drank something, though I have no memory of what that was. My Dad was kind enough to pick us up at the airport and we got home sometime after nine. And of course promptly poured ourselves a glass of some post vacation depression wine. Some tipsy things never change :drinking1

Next up, a time of reflection

The last day, the trips go so quick, I thought there was a crying emoji on the Dis but I can't find it.

Yachtsman looked like a wonderful meal, wow duck fat fries, are they incredibly rich? They sound nom nom.

We have been to Rose and Crown twice, the Scotch Egg and Fish were very good as I remember. It has been several years since we have been.

Loved all your great reviews with a good dose of humor and ale! I hope you do a review after your November trip, I will be waiting:surfweb:.

The fish and chips look so good , glad to hear the fish lived up to the photo. I can live with so so chips. Will have to do R & C for lunch next time now that Chef's took away the quiche .Plus I can get a Pimm's . But why did they ruin Yorkshire Pudding like that :confused3
