Hi Folks! It is a beautiful day here in South Jersey and the girls are playing outside. So, I am going to try and get a post up while they are doing that. Hopefully, I can get enough typed that is worth posting!
Day One: Ohana!
So, I left off that we went back to the room to rest a bit and shower. We had a dining reservation at Ohana for dinner! I was looking forward to this a lot! I knew it was going to cut our Hollywood Studios time short but I really wanted to try this out. Would it be worth it?
We left Wilderness Lodge around 3:00. Actually as we were pulling out on the boat, we could see the geyser going off, so it might have been exactly 3:00.
We decided to take the boat from Wilderness Lodge to the Contemporary and then hop on the monorail from there around to the Polynesian.
As we were walking from the boat into the Contemporary, we came across the Mickey Statue that I have seen so many people take there picture in front (or on). So, I had us stop.
First the girls.. (like how Gwen is posing in Mickey's ear... )
And then we gave the girls the cameras and took this one.
After our photo opt we continued on! We had to go through security to get on the monorail, which I didn't think about but was no big deal. Thank goodness, that we didn't have to do it at Wilderness Lodge as well. Hoped on our one and only ride on the Monorail and were over at the Polynesian in no time. I think it took us a total of 25 minutes! not bad.
We had not seen the new lobby yet. The last time we were here, it was a giant construction tube.
I honestly don't know how I feel about it. it's def not the same now, but the giant waterfall was so big and it kind of smelt funny. Guess it doesn't really matter.. it is what it is!
We checked in and they gave us a pager. (we had a 3:35 reservation). So we walked over to peek in the gift shop. Andy's sister asked us to look for a Hei Hei as they didn't have any when she was here. Sadly no Hei Hei. But of course the girls found plush they wanted. It was something that I knew for sure was ALL over property, so I said we needed to wait. They didn't like this answer but they dealt with it.
At 3:40 our beeper went off and we headed in to be seated. And we were taken to a table with this view!!!!!
It was a perfect view! You could see the castle and space mountain! Gwen was obsessed with the Volcano Pool. She really wants to stay there now. I said you and me both! Start saving your pennies!
Our Auntie (waitress) left us some of the bread & butter to start.
This was just ok to me. Morgan and Andy really liked it. I knew what was coming and I think I was just saving room for the good stuff!
Auntie came back to take our drink orders, and she didn't give us a menu which I thought was odd. But thankfully I knew EXACTLY what I wanted....
Lapu Lapu
Myers’s Original Dark Rum and Tropical Fruit Juices served in a fresh Pineapple topped with Gosling's 151 Rum
It was sooooo good! I wish I could of had 2! But it was strong! Also, it leaked a lot! I couldn't decide if it was the drink itself of just the juices of the pineapple. I ended up using my little bread plate to put the whole thing on and that worked out well.
The girls were SUPER jealous that my drink came in a pineapple. They really should have a kid drink that comes in one, they could charge an arm and a leg for it, people would order it... I know I would get suckered into it for the girls...
One more pic of my beloved drink! Ha! Also, I think I look old in this pic... Sigh...
Andy ordered a Kona Brewery Beer (I think).
Shortly they brought over our salad.
I really liked this! I don't remember what the dressing was, but it had a crunch to it with the crispy wontons on it acting as croutons. I think it had edamame in it, which I love and if I remember correctly, the dressing was sweet but not overly sweet. I do have to say the dressing wasn' evenly distributed but that actually worked out well. Morgan will eat salad but not with dressing on it. She eats it dry! So, I was able to give her a little because she was
STARVING!!!!! And crabby!!!
Not to long after they brought out the "appetizers"
This is what I was waiting for! This dish represents something everyone in our family likes... It was like it was meant for us!
The Sticky Wings were Morgan's favorite! And she doesn't eat wings!
It's not the best picture but I had to get a photo of her eating the wing. Personally the wings were just ok for me. I remember the sticky wings at Kona Cafe benign better, but they weren't terrible.
The Potstickers were mine and Gwen's favorite. I am pretty sure I ate my weight in them! They drizzled some sort of sauce on them, that I really liked. I did have to find the ones with little to no sauce on them for Gwen. I am sure I could have asked for some without, if I really needed to.
The noodles were dry! They needed some sauce as well. And again, I could have asked for some of the sauce on the potstickers but I just didn't have room for noodles also. But the dry noodles were good for both of the girls. Nice a plain.
And the veggies in the bowl were well cooked, we like our veggies still slightly crispy and that was what these were! It was nice to get at least some veggies in the girls too. They love broccoli.
And then they started bringing around the meat! And Auntie started with Beef and Morgan's Eyes got soon big. She loves a nice tender piece of red meat! So when she was asked how many, she said 3!
Sorry, for the picture, it is hard to get a good pic at this point in the meal, the meats come out separately and you just keep eating and eating...
The Beef was the best for me. Chicken had a good fire cooked smell to it. And the Shrimp was good. Nothing special about the Shrimp just good. Morgan ate a little of all of it. Gwen collected a lot of food on her plate and ate a teen tiny bit. Andy ate a ton! Auntie kept loading him up.
Apparently cutting meat takes 2 children.. Big Sis helping little Sis.
But I was filling up fast! I did ask for just 1 or 2 more potstickers, and they brough out this!
Basically an appetizer sized portion! I felt bd, I think I only ate 2 more..
Somewhere in the meats, they started the games. So, the girls got up to play the coconut broom game.
It was a lot of kids and of a cluster. But the girls liked it, and really that is what it is for...
Morgan did want a prize at the end. And I had to break it to her, that it was just a fun game. no prize kid.
Finally we decided to call it quits on the dinner portion of our meal. I think a table over had gotten there dessert and Morgan and Andy were SUPER excited about this.
The girls were in awe of the presentation of the carmel being poured over the bread pudding. I am pretty sure they actually said oooohhhhh while she was doing it.
This was soon good. It had a little bit of something for all of us again. I am not a big bread pudding person, but the crunch top part with the carmel and ice cream was perfect for me. And Morgan and Andy could eat soggy bread pudding all day long. So they ate most of that. And Gwen just hate some of the vanilla ice cream.
I remember thinking that the portion size looked kind of small. It was just about perfect for the 4 of us after all the other food we just ate. Not sure if you have 5 or 6 if you would get 2 or what they would do. They also brought out Rice Krispie Treat Squares for the girls. Which is also what Gwen ate. Which was perfect. Seriously, how much marshmallow and rice krispees does Disney go through!?!?
This was a great meal for us. We all really loved it and Andy said it was one of his new favorite places to eat! So, it was well worth it. But it was getting late and we had fast passes to get to! So, we paid and headed out.
We were headed to Hollywood Studios for the evening! But I think I will save that for the next post! So, next up our VIP experience!
