Everyone (Adults) Going Through Metal Detectors in the Mahic Kingdom Today

In August my husband had to go through every time. I only had to go through once. He also always gets picked at the airport as well. It's the running joke. He is an average looking 50 year old man. I have no idea why they get him everytime. He thinks it's because he is hispanic, I think it's random. He doesn't care or get upset. He just expects it. As long as it moves fast I don't really care either way.

I don’t have any problem going through metal detectors, but I was offended that I was chosen every time. I don’t look like any kind of troublemaker. I’m a maternal looking woman in her 50s who dresses conservatively. I don’t have a wild hairdo, tatoos or body piercings, so why I was chosen at every entrance, I have no idea.
Wow, really? well I am a 51 year old man with Tattoos and piercings and I was only asked to go through the metal detector a couple times on our 2016 and 2017 trip. Maybe they noticed how arrogant you are and wanted to prove a point.

I was only trying to convey that I am very bland looking. There’s nothing wrong with colorful hairdos, tats or piercings, but an edgy look is not for me. I just don’t like to stand out in a crowd.

Sorry to have offended you. :(

I don’t mind going though metal detectors unless they are so sensitive that my underwire bra sets them off. That happened at the Statue of Liberty and it was pretty embarrasssing. They have a super sensitive one. Even small necklaces with tiny chains set them off. Literally every bit of metal did. Those took forever to get through. I get the extra security there tho. I hope Disney ones aren’t that sensitive or I will be going bra shopping before the next trip lol
I went through with an underwire on and it never set them off.

My husband is a full sleeved, rather tall/fit man with a permanent scowl. He was never asked. Maybe you guys are too intimidating :rotfl:

Well when I go in June if they are still doing it I will find out how good their metal detectors are. I know the levels are very different on these things because at work when I go thru I don't set them off but at the federal courthouse I set bells a ringing ( Marines had to replace some crap in me).

Ya it didn’t come across like to me either with how u said it the first time. Sorry but u are back pedaling now. Was pretty mean.

I can tell you before you go that they are not all set the same. Even the ones at the same location are sit at different sensitivity levels. The calibration is all over the place. You may set them off on Day 1 and breeze right through on Day 2

My high heels used to set them off when I did my internship at a courthouse....

I just went through security at mk ttc and it was random picking. Like others have said they vary the procedure everyday, multiple times a day

I do see that saying that I don’t look like a troublemaker and then saying that I don’t have tats, piercings or wild hair could be taken as saying that I think troublemakers are tatted and pierced. I did not mean to imply that at all, and I realize my choice of wording was poor which is why I apologized.

If you want to take that as “back pedaling” that is your prerogative. :)

For our early December trip it was everyone through metal detector everyday at the Magic Kingdom, and same if you were getting on the monorail at the resorts, to leave the resorts, we went to look at the GF gingerbread house.....probably never again with that setup(that's a headache, they need to rethink that bottleneck situation). I am fine with going through the metal detectors all day long but the monorail situation is a nightmare. I don't see how monorail guests would enjoy that being basically their only option for transport to EPCOT And MK, besides renting a car. The rest of the parks were random selection if you had to go through the detectors. Overall not too bad, just make sure and count for the time that it could take and know your schedule.

If I'm reading this correctly, you're saying that you love that everyone has to go through a metal detector? To each her own, I suppose, but I feel the exact opposite.

I do as well. I hate having to prove that i'm innocent.

FWIW, we went to MK the week after Thanksgiving in 2016. Everyone was going through the metal detectors. Eventually, that caused a backup so that no one could go through the bag check lines. Then, they started waiving people around the detectors.

Whatever WDW security is doing, it is working. I feel safe in the parks, and there have been no recent incidents to speak of. I don't see how requiring all guests, all the time, to go through the WTMD would improve that.

Well, if the security keeps my family safe then I don't mind going through the metal detectors. Wasn't it just last year or a few years ago a guy shot himself at Universal? He could have easily used the gun on others but decided to use it on himself.
