I love credit cards so much!

Guys! I just wanted to let the board know I decided to swing for the Chase double dip this morning and just finished getting approved for both the CSR @ $25k and CSP @ $19k!! Admittedly, I'm not sure if the CLs are particularly low/average/etc, but it's more than enough for our needs and will help us save a ton for our upcoming trips and beyond.

I know a number of you have been helping me over the past few weeks with everything from CCs to GCs and even chiming in in the "First-timers" thread. Maybe I'm just a little too excited in the moment, but this is actually a pretty big step for our young family. I may have to join that churner board! Thanks again everyone!! :D

:sad:I just had to put a very large propane bill on my CSR since they wouldn’t accept my SPG to help me meet MSR.

I've always enjoyed a good weekend trip to Orlando for Seaworld or Universal. I know you don't have Hilton points but just figured I'd throw this out there for those interested: The Doubletree (Hilton) http://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/ho...rance-to-universal-orlando-MCOUNDT/index.html located here is walkable to Universal and at times can be booked for 25k Hilton points a night :)

Sorry that doesn't directly help you at all though, haha. I'd just been meaning to post about this and your comment reminded me of it.
My spoiled HP lover only wants to stay onsite at one of the resorts with EP. And, of course, I oblige since I would rather not wait in the lines, if I can avoid it.

Congratulations! Those are both very healthy limits!

I need to book flights: 2 on Delta and 1 on Jet Blue. Should I use the CSR for 3X travel and card travel protections or buy gift cards using Freedom at 5X to pay for the flights?

Thoughts??
I like the travel protections offered by CSR. Can you charge most of the flights at 5x via gift cards and pay the remaining balance with your CSR? As long as any portion of the trip is directly charged to your CSR you will get the protections.
ETA: make sure you know exactly what you're purchasing with those gift cards, if I recall right airline gift cards can have wonky rules (only good for use on certain things, can only use a certain number of gift cards per purchase, etc.)

Happy for you, that is a great start to your travel hacking future!

But...a bit sad that you didn't share the love for the people who helped you on this board. Over on the reddit board, people have links for those cards that you got approved for and it would have helped them out too. [Disclaimer: I do NOT have any links over there, but other DISers on this thread do.] In any case, people share info on this thread to help others and not to pad their accounts, so it's great that you found the information helpful for your future plans.

I'm back on their site now. I had stopped reading after the beginning of the paragraph. Thanks for mentioning you used Amex cause I'm gonna try it. Here is the verbage, which is confusing, but looks like may work:

The following Counties accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover as payment options when titling and registering a vehicle: Adams, Alamosa, Arapahoe, Archuleta, Baca, Boulder, Broomfield, Chaffee, Cheyenne, Clear Creek, Conejos, Costilla, Custer, Delta, Denver, Dolores, Douglas, Eagle, El Paso, Fremont, Garfield, Gilpin, Grand, Gunnison, Huerfano, Jackson, Jefferson, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lake, Larimer, Las Animas, Lincoln, Logan, Mesa, Moffat, Montezuma, Montrose, Morgan, Otero, Ouray, Park, Phillips, Pitkin, Prowers, Pueblo, Rio Blanco, Rio Grande, Routt, Saguache, San Miguel, Summit, Teller, Washington, Weld and Yuma accept Master Card, Visa, Discover and American Express as a payment option when titling and registering a vehicle.
Wow that is worded strange. We are in Adams county... but that list is written like,
"These counties take MC/V/Disc: list list list take all CCs"
Who the heck wrote that? o_O

I don't have much faith in them though... When I moved to CO and had to get a CO license, I read the site a million times to make sure I had everything I'd need... left work that day, get there and pull my number. An employee was helping people with that, so he was like, oh let me see your old license. Oh no, this doesn't have your middle name on it, only the initial... so you can't prove your middle name starts with an N :confused3
But it's going to be over 2 hours, so you can go home and get your birth certificate and come back.

So apparently CO doesn't trust other states to get the middle initial correct... :confused3

PS... I tried to search that list... and earned 4 swagbucks :rotfl:

It's times like these I wish we had options other than just "like" like they do on Facebook - How's this? :hyper:

I did it last week b/c I can't swing the higher spend for the bigger bonus...

The thinking* is that because that is when they increased the offer last year it will increase that time this year. The * is since we know the CC line is changing up in 2018 we don't know if the cards will continue to be offered in their same form. DoC thinks the SPG Biz will stay here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/spg-marriott-cards/ but remember these are just his guesses on what will happen. Personally I jumped on the SPG Biz earlier this year but am waiting to see if they up the personal SPG offer. (Went Biz because I was ready to meet a spend but didn't want another account showing on my credit report.)

Anybody saying it's supposed to go up is guessing based on historical trends. There's also a risk that the card will be eliminated as part of the SPG/Marriott merger and the re-branding of the cards. Obviously you have to decide what's best for you. One thing to keep in mind is the increased offers also come with greatly increased min. spends.
  • The 25k point offer for $5k minimum spend is currently available online (or through DISchurners ;)).
  • The increased offer for 35k points that came out recently required a $10k minimum spend.

Thanks for the replies! I'm already sweating the $5k spend so definitely couldn't swing $10k. I have an insurance bill I need to pay soon so I was hoping I'd be approved and receive the card in time to put it on there, but didn't want to miss out if the offer changed in a few weeks!

Also, the card takes up to 2 weeks to show up if it's your first Amex biz card. They refused to expedite mine despite the application page saying I would receive the card in 2-3 business days citing "security" reasons. I think mine showed up a week or bit more later but if I were to do it again I'd allow 2 weeks for it to arrive.

I just posted on the SPG Biz situation right above this, haha :). The 25k for $5k is a solid offer for sure. The higher points offers come with a higher min. spend but can be lucrative. Unfortunately there aren't any good reputable rumors right now about whether the offers will increase again or not.
Haha, I saw that when I refreshed the page. I’m not sure we can manage a $10K MSR in 3 months. We did $8K in ~2 months but almost $3K of that was medical bills that I got reimbursed out of our HSA. And I paid 2 months rent via Plastiq, which I’d rather not do on a card that only earns 1x there because of the fee.

I think I’m going to do the Marriott Biz next. Hopefully I get approved with my “business” since I used the same “business” to get the CIP. Then I’ll do SPG Biz and Jet Blue (making sure I have the JB card in hand before our July 3rd flight). By the time we finish all of that it will have been 5-6 months since DW’s last Chase card, so I think we’ll be safe to try doubling up on Marriott personals for both of us.

Alright, I need to get off the computer and pack! We’re leaving tomorrow to go to Washington DC for 4 nights. Train tickets paid for with Amtrak card sign up bonus, hotel will be covered by our 2 CSR travel credits and I will finish the IHG Accelerate bonus with the stay which will get us the rest of the points I need for our 4 nights at Disneyland in July. And pretty much all of the attractions in DC are free, so all we really have to pay for is food. Love (almost) free vacations!

its 6k for in 3 months, 4k in 6 months. 10k after 6 months.
if you need help with spendings, there are a few other ways to do it. many of them are fee free too.

Yes - Delta gift cards are a PAIN to use. I tried to use a $50 gift card to pay toward a multiple person flight (paying cash not points). It would not go through. I was told by customer service that I could not use the gift card with more than 1 person on a reservation and that I would have to make 2 separate reservations - #1 with a single person in order to use the gc, #2 - everyone else. Since I wanted all of us under the same res for free luggage purposes, I didn't want to split our reservation. I also learned the hard way that you also cannot use a Delta gift card to pay the taxes on a points flight. So I still have my $50 Delta card . . .

Where do I find this offer? Is it targeted? We could probably make 10K spend if we have 6 months to do it.
