I love credit cards so much!

Thanks for the heads up! Just added mine to our Reddit group in the Amex section. I didn’t see any others. Am I the only one that picked up this card already here? 100k plus a $250 airline credit with your chosen airline ( AA hostage here) which can be triggered by AA gift cards in $100 and $50 increments. Other airlines work too but vary. Plus a $250 resort credit which can be used to pay for a stay according to DPs I’m reading and Diamond status!! OMG! I am almost as excited about this card as I was about the CSR when it was announced. DH got one too and we have decided we are both keeping ours.

I’d get it for DH if he wasn’t so close to lifetime diamond. Would be nice to carry the card to keep diamond at Hilton and switch his stays to marriott to obtain platinum that way...thus elite at both chains...and spg as well.

But he is 3 yrs away from lifetime diamond and I read that diamond via credit card won’t count towards lifetime status. If anyone knows differently let me know!

Create a new business account. (You might even get a new interface.) I couldn’t add the Marriott Biz to the same business account as my CIP. I wouldn’t want to merge any business account with my personal accounts. Too many technical issues.

Thank you Lain

I remembered I saw this post on DoC a few months ago, and now you mention it: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/hilton-diamond-status-aspire-will-count-towards-lifetime-diamond/

DH earns Lifetime Diamond Status by:

1. earning Diamond Status for at least 10 years (non-consecutive) AND
2. having completed stays totaling at least 1,000 paid and reward nights OR earned at least 2 million Base Points over life of membership.

The Hilton Aspire card won't help DH with either of the second requirement, but the complimentary Diamond status conferred by the Aspire card annually will count towards the 10 years requirement to earn Lifetime Diamond status. So if DH has already stayed 1,000 nights or earned 2 million base points, he could get the Aspire can cut 3 years effectively in half, and gain all the other benefits of the card: https://www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/card/hilton-honors-aspire/

DoC says he's confirmed with Amex and Hilton that's how it works, but you may want to do your own due diligence. Also, since the Aspire is a personal card, it'll count against one of DH's */24 slots. (I'm assuming you'd be getting the card for DH, not you, since DH is the one earning status.)

I am just under a year with my CSP and trying to downgrade to the CFU. I tried doing it via sm but couldn't. When I call should I ask them about going right to the CFU or should I ask for the regular Sapphire then downgrade that at a later date?

Why not simply ask for what you want? If they say no, then ask for the regular Sapphire. DH was able to downgrade from the CSR to the Freedom prior to his year anniversary, even though I had read online that Chase wouldn't do it. So you never know.

So pretty sure we’re going to book a summer disney trip throug the travel agency that must not be named. Cant use ur points there lol. Total cost for room and tickets- 3440.

I have 832 dollars in discover cash, 600 dollars from discover savings account bonuses. Going to try and do the chase checking and savings bonuses when I go visit my sister in jersey next (open a branch in philly chase). That should be 500.

Any other ideas for Cash back? Husband is getting a cip, but we’ll save those points as I’m looking at Europe this fall. Should I burn a 5/24 spot and have dh refer me to the Disney card for a net of 300 dollars?

We’re kind of slow churners. My husband will only agree to one card a year, two if I can push him. He thinks this whole thing is ridiculous. He has a Disney, a csp from 3/17 that will be downgraded to a cfu and a cip he’s opening this week. Should be fine, as long as I can convince him that his 10k in 1099 income means he has a business.

I’m currently 3/24 with my now closed csp falling off in March and then my csr and cfu falling off late August. Was looking at the spg biz soon. Would like to consider a companion pass for 19/20 so I’m trying to keep a slot open for that.

My current cards
Amex blue for students- 2001, what is now a chase freedom- 2004, crate and barrel card 9/2014, discover it 12/2015, csp 3/2016 (closed), cfu/ csr 8/2016, cip 6/2017.

No his Disney card is apparently 8/16.

I figure I’m giving up a Marriott or united card for the Disney. Honestly I’m not sure I’d use either very much. With two littles, school schedules, etc, we’re down to 1 trip a year and few weekends.

I'm by no means an expert but I'm coming from a 'cash is king' to now 'omg, you can do what with points?!?!' perspective so hopefully it's helpful.

If I read your card count correctly, you're at 2/24 with it being 1/24 after next month (because CIP doesn't count towards 5/24, correct?) so if yer willing to get multiple cards in a year I think yer good for the Disney card. If it were me, I'd burn a spot on it. The $100 referral your DH will get in Disney dollars and for us we use that rewards redemption card to get the 10% Visa perks without having to put it on the CC... that way we're stretching our free money even further for dining or merchandise. Then the $200 stmt credit for buying things you were already going to buy is a nice chunk to move into the vaca budget. It seems like a pretty good return and still leaves you 2/24 after March.

If you still want a cash back card, again for me, I'd be thinking about the AmEx Blue Cash cards. Assuming you can pay off your package with GC's, which I believe folks here confirmed you can, then I'd use the 3% or 6% cashback at grocery stores where I buy Disney GC's. The no AF card has a $200 stmt credit after $1000 in purchases the first 3 months, so that's $200 right there plus the 3% on the Disney GC's to buy down the bill. The Blue Cash Preferred has a $95 AF but gets the 6% at grocery stores ($250 stmt credit offer). Both cards have a $6000 yearly limit for the grocery category but it seems like the 3% (Preferred) or 2% (plain) at gas stations is not limited. AmEx is looking at gift card purchases used to meet the minimum spend, but I would think if you are buying them with your weekly groceries during the min spend period you'd be ok. I believe you can search back through the thread for data points on that. Personally even with buying gift cards I'd probably not max out the grocery category so I'd take the smaller earning and go with the no AF card. But that's just my situation. (and we now have the no AF card so I'm just getting up to speed on how best to use it... so totally not part of the plan:duck:)

This would leave you at 3/24 so you could use both remaining spots for your SW CP or, and there's so much info and changing I may be misremembering so someone please fact check me, but can you double dip the SW cards on the same day for the last 5/24 spot and end up at 6/24? So there's a possibility to still get a Marriott (or United) card in there? This is where the experts come in ;)

(and more rambling, if you were to get the SPG biz I'd go for the Marriott over United, if you even can, to pool the Marriott/spg points)

I keep contemplating the Ascend. We actually have 2 Hilton properties booked for this year so we'll have points earned in a 3rd program and I wouldn't mind staying for free at a Hilton. But the Aspire isn't bad for what you get, I'll agree. I know they're new, but does anyone have any educated guesses for how long the offers will be around? I'm interested at 100K pts but there's other cards I'd rather use my 5/24 slots on first so I can't hop right now but maybe in a month or so.

We are waiting until December to try to double dip the airline credit.

My weekly update in this new journey:
Good news
I received my CIP card and moved all my recurring payments on internet/netflix/verizon to that card. Those will be 3x points. As I have mentioned, I am in 1 player mode but working on the husband. I did buy a giant eagle gift card so that if he does the grocery shopping, I will not have missed out on points or MSR :).
Maxed out the CF 1Q category
Received the $300 bonus on the new Chase checking acct.
Used the coupon to open a Costco membership ($20 cash card/$25 coupon on $250 on Costco.com); charged to CIP! I shopped for some snacks needed for a work meeting this coming week. Also rebooked my rental car for the May trip through Costco Travel :drive:
Not so happy news
The CIP card didn't arrive until the day after the sale on the new dining room furniture ended. So ended up using the CF. That bummed me out but have a decent plan on meeting MSR so all should still be good.

New questions
  1. Business vs Personal accounts at Chase. I opened a business online account after getting my card. The interface looks the same as my personal account. Am I missing something? I was thinking the DPs were that the business site was bad. Should I combine or continue to leave separate?
  2. Transferring points between accounts. With only the CF and CIP, I think I will want to transfer all my points to the CIP to either book my airfare or transfer the points to Southwest for my May trip. I assume this is simple/straightforward?
  3. I am going over to the /reddit/dischurners to read up more on MPX. I did download the app. I don't have a United credit card as I want to get CSR/CSP next and then SW for CP. But I think I can use this even with out the United CC. For some reason, I do not totally follow how to work this to maximize points.

Plastiq question! We're thinking about putting our business's property taxes through plastiq. Do all charges through plastiq code as 3x on CIP? (Can change anytime I get that) Is there a limit to the size of the charge plastiq will process? We're looking at just under 10K. Our county treasurer is on the site as getting an electronic transfer so it should process in a timely manner.

1. They've been updating the interfaces. The old one sucks, the new one is nice. It's the slowest rollout in the history of the internet. The reason people don't combine is it can cause issues with ChasePay.
2. Yep transfer to your CIP. Idk the mechanics of that as I've only transferred CIP to CSR but doing that has been easy for us. That's not the case for everyone so give yourself some time to comply the transfer.
3. I don't MPX but the last few pages here cover some possible changes to MPX so keep an eye on that over the next couple weeks.

Congratulations! You're on your way!

1. Chase has been rolling out the new user interface for business accounts, so you may have gotten the updated site. My business accounts still show the old design. You still may want to keep business accounts separate from personal accounts because there have been reports that merging accounts could cause problems using Chase Pay on your personal cards.

2. Yes. Go to your CF account, click combine points, and enter your CIP card number (or last 4 digits?) and last name where you'll be transferring your points. Your CIP earns you a 25% bonus on the value of UR points redeemed for travel through the CIP's UR portal.

3. MPX gives you a 25% bonus on the UA miles earned for any gift card purchased through the app if you have a United credit card tied to your account. Gift cards to various merchants earn 0.5-5 miles per $1 (during certain holidays and promos, some merchants may go up to 10 miles/$1). You can still use MPX to buy gift cards for the UA points offered and whatever rewards your credit card gives you (you can use any card), but you won't get those 25% bonus miles that you would if you had a United card added to your account.

Recent DP says property taxes will code as 3x UR: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/c...ion_thread_january_25_2018/dt7xmec/?context=3

No limit that I'm aware of. Plastiq would LOVE for everyone to process more payments through them.

Does Netflix code as 3 times on the CIP? Just have it as SPG personal as didn’t think about it.
