Enough is Enough: Resorts to Charge for Overnight Parking

Sick of what stuff? WDW is doing what a vast majority of other hotels in popular areas do. I don't stay on property, so it doesn't effect me anyway, but I'm honestly surprised it took them this long to do it. It's been many, many years now that when I travel most hotels in more crowded/popular areas charge to park.

Pop century is worse than the Holiday Inn across I-4. When you pay $175/night for pop you assume that those amenities are built in. If not then you are just paying a premium for a crappy hotel room.

Well, then that's a decision you've got to make, right? Like I said, I stay off property anyway, so it's no skin off my back either way. I wouldn't stay on property even if it were free for the room, it's not my thing. But while I don't "like" that they'd charge for parking, considering that so many hotels in popular areas do it, I'm impressed WDW held out this long. Go to any decent hotel in downtown NYC or Philly or Boston...guess what? You'll pay $20/night or more to park your car. Las Vegas strip...yep, same thing (with few exceptions).

Just always have to laugh at people who are so over the top inflamed about WDW charging money for things. Do you expect everything for free?

Las Vegas resorts have free self parking for one...

The other cities you listed all have one thing in common... a parking shortage which Disney resorts dont have.

Trust me... I stay at them and you dont, remember?

Love the internet tough talk

Does anyone know if annual passholders get a discount or are exempt? Can I just go park at the parks for free and bus to my hotel?

You can't park overnight at the theme parks. You can't take luggage on the theme park buses.

WOW....no, and I am getting NOTHING for free at Disney..no laughing matter is our our house. I am not paying for Las Vegas.

About to be official still isn't the same thing as official.

Because it isn't official, there isn't any way to know who, if anyone, will be exempt. AP, DVC, whoever. It's all speculation still. There is some evidence that DVC may be exempt for members staying at DVC resorts.

Frankly, it is kind of surprising that it took them so long.

If you're looking for offsite hotels, be sure you choose one that doesn't charge for parking. Many of them do.

I'd drop the bags off before parking lol. That's too bad you can't park overnight. You can't do that at Disney Springs either right? I'm probably never staying onsite again after my wedding, kind of have to for that. At last my last hotel will be a nice one. It's like Disney is trying to make me hate them, which is really sad since I loved staying onsite

Its how your raise rates without raising rates. For those that fly in, its a non issue. But those same people don't use the parking lots either. So this way they are passing the buck (so to speak) to those that use it and they will now help to repave the lots, the streets and the other services they use.

This will soon spill over to the off-site locations too. Swan Dolphin has done it for years, same as the resort fees just like most other resort locations.

Remember Disney isn't a charity. Remember those people saying Disney should pay a "living wage" well this is one of the ways they can do it. With crowds like they have, they can afford to do it too, people will still come and still pay. They will only stop when people stop going, which isn't going to happen any time soon.

Would you not be upset about a fee of more than $400 being tacked on to your offsite accommodations after you've booked it? Cause that's what it's going to cost me.

No need to be so condescending when it doesn't affect you at all.

It’s official

What do you mean offsite? Is your offsite hotel charging for parking, too? Lots of places do. I know the Gaylord has charged for parking forever. Same with Swan and Dolphin. Plus they add a fee for just being onsite, like for internet service, newspaper, etc.

Now it's official. Will apply to reservations made March 21 or after. So it won't be tacked on after you have booked it. To avoid it, make a reservation before the 21st. There's a week left

Now they just need to start charging a fee for Disney's Magical Express. And for anyone parking at the Boardwalk who isn't a guest of the BW. They really ought to charge for short term parking at the resorts unless you get a parking credit for dining or shopping at the resort. Spend $25 at the resort, you get one hour free. Spend $50 get two hours free. Spend $75 get three hours free.

I feel like the wording is a little confusing, if it means booking before or if you're staying after that date. I emailed Disney asking for clarification since I have two upcoming stays, one is this weekend so looks like I won't have to pay the fee, but the November one I made before 3/21 so I'm not sure if it counts or not.

No. Im staying onsite. I'm just responding to @Klayfish who stays offsite and finds it amusing when people are upset about paying for things that were previously free.
