So if I pay $250 plus a night at AKL and drive there, I have to pay $24 a night for my car to sit in the giant parking lot at AKL. While some one who isn’t DVC rents points at a lower overall price and gets free parking?
Yep- should push rental rates up (he says selfishly).

Someone stated before they don't mind paying for it at the Swan and Dolphin because on the average they are cheaper than Disney hotels, but are they really?

That's 343 a night, before the 20 a day parking, so 363 a night. Yes, on paper it's cheaper than most rooms at the Floridian, Poly, and Contemporary, but it's not some outrageous savings.

I am the vacation planner in our family because I have the time to do it and for some reason I get a kick out of making all the pieces fit together. I told DH about the parking fee and he initially said it sounds like a lot and I explained how a lot of resorts and hotels in metro or super touristy areas charge fees like that. I know a lot of people say that staying offsite or at Swan and Dolphin is so much cheaper and I have looked all over and can't find these rates that are half the price of staying onsite.

If you rent a condo or airbnb or something then ok, I can see that. However, if you're talking about a resort or a hotel other than like a Super 8, the initial rate looks cheaper but after you add in all the extra costs it doesn't end up any cheaper than staying at a moderate and often times comparable to staying at AKL or something like that, especially if you rent DVC point. If you stay off site you have to pay to rent a car (or usually pay a fee to use a resort shuttle to the parks), pay to park at Disney parks, there is a resort fee tacked on, etc. etc. Is the room larger than on Disney property? Maybe. But the hassle of driving myself around and having to take the tram out to the parking lot and find my car, etc.....it's just not worth it for the meager savings to me. But, to each their own.

This may be my last straw to staying on property. With this plus all the other benefits (advance FP and EMH)they are giving to guests at other offsite hotels it no longer makes sense to stay onsite. Other question, why are they charging more for different level hotels? They are all the same size spot. I think that is ridiculous also.

Day Guests

Complimentary standard self-parking is available while enjoying select dining, shopping, entertainment, and recreation experiences at Disney Resort hotels.

Do "recreational experiences" include pool hopping or taking the monorail to MK? Kidding aside...the wording does leave it open for some type of parking validation system, or at least maybe tighter restrictions on day parking, but who knows...

I feel that the parking fee should also be waived for guests with disabilities. We stay onsite and prefer not to have a car, but we often travel with my MIL, who uses an ECV, so we rent a van when she is with us. It's MUCH easier to get around WDW with a van when you're dealing with an ECV than it is to get on and off buses, to the point that we don't even consider NOT renting a vehicle - it's just automatic. Now WDW is going to tax us $20/night essentially because of a disability? That's insane.

Fortunately for us, we're in the process of purchasing DVC resale, so we'll be staying on points from now on and won't have to pay the fee (assuming the free parking "perk" is extended to those who purchase resale). But the principle is the same - they shouldn't "tax" disabled guests who have little or no choice about using a vehicle!

So maybe park at your resort during the day (day guest is free), then leave your car overnight in the TTC lot? Do they tow cars that stay there overnight?

Universal charges a different rate based on the resort. Cabana Bay is $12/night + tax and RPR is $22/night + tax.

Disney has been piling on people who enjoy staying on-site lately and really making it tough to enjoy what perks are left. The security checks already have people fuming, and now they are going to charge for parking on-site. I think they are going to lose more customers than they think they will, and I hope they do.

If they continue this trend and start charging for ME, I will take an Uber from the airport to the resort. I refuse to pay for the perks that used to be "free" (not really free). They are constantly adding upcharges lately, (dessert parties for better views of nighttime shows, extra magic morning hours, etc). They will lose customers.

We are DVC owners and don't normally drive to WDW so right now we aren't affected, but I'm sure charging for ME isn't far behind.

Overnight parking fees are waived at resorts for guests with disabilities

And sometimes there is a deal booking with disneyspringshotels.com that will wave fees or give upgraded rooms as well.
Stayed at both Doubletree and B Resort with waived fees (at BResort think it was parking and I still payed resort fee, but got poolside room for great price.) Really liked both of them, but we didn't use any amenities so can't comment on that.
We are currently at the B. Got a fantastic MouseSavers rate on a Jr suite with no resort fee. Parking is around $25 a day. They have a park shuttle but we have been using uber.
