Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

There's been a lot of threads disparaging Pop and the other values, or being concerned about them after moderates and deluxes, etc.

So I wanna hear why everyone loves it and what makes it great! It isn't fun to read all these negative things ahead of a stay I've been looking forward to!

Somewhere around 135+ stays onsite; deluxe, moderate and value. Probably over 35 are at POP and I would consider it our home resort. I started out in moderates. I LOVE AKL because honestly forget Disney, there is nothing like that in this country. My favorite moderate is CSR and I will gladly stay at POR.

Bottom line, NO Disney resort is worth what they charge so it boils down to what you are looking to spend and what you want from your resort. I go to Disney to go to WDW and the more time goes by the more the hotel is just not important to me having a great trip. Having extra cash in my pocket to spend as I wish for fun or eats is more important than a few more square feet or a hot tub and slide.

While I think the new renovations are a bit sterile, it's happening all over Disney resorts, even the Grand Floridian is becoming generic. At least POP screams Disney on the outside and of all vacations ... why not?

Each of my trips are different. Left today after 3 straight days of 12 hour days and my room was for showers and sleep. We never even turned on the tv. It mattered not at all where I was staying.

No matter where you stay you can still have the best vacation - even if you choose offsite. It's all what you make it!

ENJOY :hippie::hippie:

Thanks for all the responses! I guess I'm not concerned, but I keep reading negative threads like "I think we're over the values" and "nervous about pop" and I just thought it'd be nice to read what people love about Pop!

I'm confident I'll enjoy my stay and I'm really looking forward to checking out the new rooms, and I'll love having the option to hop over to AoA. The pool bar also looks really fun!

I have to agree with all the negative reviews about the Values,BUT IMHO I think the recent addition of Indoor Plumbing is really going to be a game-changer!;):)

That, and replacing the straw mats on the floor with genuine wood beds.
Now if they'd just put electricity in them thar rooms so'se we don't have to burn oil lamps at night..................:D

Joining in. Wife and I are going in January 2019. First time without the kids in like 20 years. They are both in college now so we are hitting Disney

Picked pop as we did it as a family 10 years back and like it. We got the dining plan with one sit down so won’t be at the resort a ton. We did get the 60,s section pool preferred to keep walk shorter and going to AoA. We love the food court there.

Anyway PoP here we come

Honestly, let people hate Pop- more rooms available for me :rotfl2:

I’ve stayed all levels of WDW resorts (from GF RPC to standard at Pop). We adore Pop and always have. It’s our go to resort when the vacation focus is parks. I don’t find the food court any busier than POR. I still standby my assertion that it has the best bus service anywhere on property. The new improvements to the rooms merely solidify why we love it. If we are getting to WDW more than once a year, I can guarantee one of those stays will be at Pop.

We were looking at the menus in MDE and had a question. Is the ice cream station really only open from 6-11 at night? We were hoping for an afternoon Dole Whip!

A wee bit off topic but I've been so much luckier than most over the past few years re returning from my WDW trip a few days before a hurricane and then last year, flying in a few days after a major hurricane. One big thing I noticed was the water flooding and pooling on the ground, the ground level walkways and right up and over the threshold of ground floor rooms. I was at AS Sports both trips but imagine the dynamic may be the same at POP. I always ask for top floor because I believe it is more quiet. And after wading through that water & feeling so bad for ground floor families, I wouldn't even consider ground floor now unless I had a serious accessibility issue and believed I had no choice.
I was at Pop on the first floor during Irma, and didn’t have any flooding in the room.

Hi guys,
Does anyone know how long it takes to walk from Pop to AoA?
In particular the food court. If anyone know the shortest and/or longest walk time based on the different buildings to AoA food court I would be very appreciative.
TIA

Heading to Pop in about 2 weeks. I am wondering if Pop is still doing the option of foregoing maid service and getting a giftcard. If so, what is the current /day amount, I seem to remember it being reduced to $10/day (we did it last year, when I think it was $15/day).

I also can't remember the calculation. We are staying for 8 nights/9 days. I think they weren't counting the first day of your stay for giftcard days. So in my example, with an 9 day stay, if it was available, would we get a giftcard for 7, 8, or 9 days?

I’m pretty sure they are still doing it. It’s $10/night excluding one night. So if you are there for 8 nights you will get $70.

We received a $70 gift card for our 8 night stay last week. It came in an email within 30 minutes of checking in at the front desk. Our room wasn't ready, but I planned to go to the front desk first anyway to take care of that. I requested new towels mid-week, and they were delivered within 15 minutes of calling!!

After how many nights does housekeeping usually change the sheets on the beds? I’m trying to decide on whether to forego housekeeping. We’re going to be there 13 nights, though, and I don’t know if that’s too long in the same bedding for me, but if they don’t change the sheets anyway, I guess that doesn’t matter.

I’m not sure how often they change the sheets if you have maid service, but you can always phone housekeeping and request fresh sheets and change them yourself. That’s what we did on our two week trip when we opted out of housekeeping.
