Debating to go to Chef Mickeys or Hollywood and Vine??

We love character meals, CRT and 'Ohana are our favorites even though we are all adults now.

Unless you have very young children, I would avoid both. Chef Mickeys was fun when DD was little. It's just not anymore. It's very chaotic, and the buffet isn't that great. I told my DD that I won't return until I have grandchildren. We never liked H&V.

Chef Mickey's was a one and done for us. I'm glad we did it but neither the food or atmosphere is making me want to rush back. We enjoyed H&V much more CM's. The food was comparable (neither exceptional) but the character interaction and service were worlds better at H&V.

Happy decision making! I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever you choose.

Just did Chef Mickey for breakfast last month with 2 teenagers and a young adult, along with DH. We all LOVED it! The food isn't spectacular, but it is good enough. We had a table in the back right corner (overlooking the Contemporary Convention Center) which was a perfect location... out of the way for the buffet line congestion, less chaotic, and we happened to sit just as the characters were starting on that side. I'd say we got our money's worth. We had picture frame mats that I asked each of the "Fab 5" to sign as they came to our table. They stayed to goof around a bit as well. IMO, most of the buffets are not exceptional, but it is hard to mess up breakfast. You need to go in with the right frame of mind, sit back, be patient, and enjoy yourself.

What meal? We did breakfast at both and Chef Mickey was MUCH better quality. We only did Hollywood & Vine for the Jedi Training signup advantage. For that reason, I would do it again but the food was sub-par.

Best character buffet on property for food and character interaction is Tusker House at AK. If forced to chose between the two mentioned, Chef Mickey would be our choice.

Of the 2, I'd choose Chef Mickey's. Our experiences there have been much better than H&V.

Maybe my family is easy to please, but we have enjoyed each of our 3 dinners at Chef Mickeys. Food is pretty good and the environment is lots of fun. I dont hesitate to recommend it and I dont really understand the hate for it. But again, maybe we are just simple people.

We did breakfast at Hollywood and Vine last month and we didn't think it was worth the money. The food was not great and NONE of the characters came to visit the table in the hour we were there without me having to ask someone about them coming over. I basically had to shame Goofy and Doc McStuffins into stopping over for my son to meet them. For the money it costs, I shouldn't have to remind people that we've been there an hour and no one has come to our table yet. We didn't wait for the other characters to see if they would ever make it to our table. Haven't eaten at Chef Mickeys yet to compare that to. But we did try the Crystal Palace and that was awesome, food was good and my son met all 4 characters in an hour and had his breakfast.

I'm with you. We enjoy it. I don't understand the beating it takes *and* if it is so bad, why it is often booked solid?! Maybe there's more of us out there than we realize. :D

Partly because everyone wants it to be so good. Who doesn't want to eat at a place at WDW called "Chef Mickey" in the resort where the monorail runs right through it, you'll meet the most popular characters while sitting at your table and after you eat you can walk to MK??? Sounds great! It's been years since we've eaten there, the last time the fried chicken was good, and the mashed potatoes were ok. Just about everything else was kinda sad and it's very expensive. But two things I've learned from my years here on the Dis. 1) WDW food is very inconsistent, and 2) So are WDW restaurant reviews.;) It's the only thing I can come up with that accounts for "Best meal of our trip" and "Inedible, never again!" comments in the same thread...for nearly every restaurant! :earsboy:

Based on what I read (having never been to either) food quality is not the reason for these restaurants it is atmosphere. I would base my decision on where you wanted to be (either before or after the meal). Chef Mickey's for MK, H&V for DHS.

I personally wouldn’t eat at either location. Very over priced for the inedible food!

Tusker House is my favorite character meal too. Between the two mentioned, I guess Chef Mickey.
Tusker House is our favorite restaurant period. Never mind characters just in general love it there. I’d actually chose H and V between the 2. A little less chaotic and too me the food is similar in quality actually.

I thought they had very different characters. When we went to H&V it was Disney Junior Characters, and when we went to Chef Mickey it was the Mickey Mouse gang. The food was mediocre at Chef Mickey's and just not good at H&V. BUT, H&V was worth it to use so our little girls could meet those characters. However we won't be back. My kids want to go back to Chef Mickey's but don't care about going back to H&V. There is just something iconic about Chef Mickey's that they love.

I've been to CM several times and always enjoyed it. I am doing Minnie's Holiday dine in Dec at H&V cause I want to see them in Christmas costumes. So if seeing the characters in different attire appeals to you, then you might want H&V
