So, now that I have accumulated a good amount of points thanks to everyone’s help on this thread, I have one small problem—I can’t bring myself to part with the points I’ve earned. l’ve become a points hoarder. :rotfl2:

Is this an actual condition? I do want to reserve a Universal trip for next year, but I’m finding myself torn over whether I should spend 23,000 points for a regular room at RPR or pay $30,000 for club level. 7,000 points more didn’t seem like a lot, but I can’t help but notice I might be giving up a nights stay or, at least, part of a nights stay someplace else. Does anyone else struggle with using your points once you’ve earned them? Is 7,000 points per night too much for club level at one of the Universal LOWES resorts? :confused3

Just don’t want to waste any!
We have stayed club level several times at PBR and HRH, paying real $ for the room. We really enjoy it since we have APs and enjoy splitting our day between the parks and the resort so we get a lot of use out of the club. DH can make dinner out of the club evening food but DS and I have a harder time since we are picky. I do love being able to get a couple or few glasses of wine for free too. We are staying in RPR club using UR for the first time in June. Considering we typically spend $70 or so for breakfast since we like to do the buffet, I figured the extra UR for club we should be saving $$$, although the RPR club doesn’t seem to be as convenient since it is on 7th fl as PBR which is on the main level.

My persistence paid off on the last day for no cancellation penalty... While a priceline deal did not come through, I finally found a discounted room at Pop, saving me... drum roll please... $30 after tax :rotfl2: I'm thinking it must just be the public discount for the first of the 3 nights I need since they are between the discount offers. Eh, I'll take it.

How does everyone save money for trips to Disney? We pretty much have our Universal trip for next year paid for with our UR points, and we upgraded our park tickets to season passes, so we have that benefit as well. We used Chase Disney rewards before joining this thread, but it was never enough earnings to cover a trip. We could use those rewards to pay for our room and then buy tickets through UT. Is that what others do? The problem I’m facing is DH doesn’t want to switch hotels ever again. For those who have done it, is commuting from Universal to Disney a pain? Our boys are all over 10 now, so it won’t pay us to do the Disney Dining plan.

Lots of ways. You can use a card like the Barclays Arrival + or a CapOne Venture to pay for tickets. Lots of people here are collecting American Airlines miles (biz cards) to cash in for Disney resorts. There's info on this on our private Reddit. Are you a member of that page by chance?

You can also collect points and cash out for Disney giftcards. I don't recommend it but you can even cash United miles for Disney gift cards. You just need to creative. We all have lots of ideas here to help. Where are you wanting to stay exactly?

Well, I’m not sure. We’ve stayed at the Polynesian twice, but definitely want something less expensive. DH just wants to stay at RPR the entire week since it’s covered, buy our tickets to the parks and commute back and forth. He really didn’t enjoy doing a split stay. I’m not as convinced we will enjoy commuting daily to Disney for our park days there, which is why I’m trying to present an argument that we could save money somehow at both Disney and Universal.

TY! Have you ever done a split stay with Disney, or do you just stay at Universal for the duration of your trip?

I have PBR club level booked for October but think my kids would like HRH better. It’s about 40k more URs a night right now. Think it’s worth it? We are APs now too so plan on a more relaxed visit with resort and park time and maybe do HHN

Def lots of ways to cushion the Disney cost. We did the Swan last time and used Marriott points. Might be something to consider also. Is the your first time at Universal? We went for 3 nights in February at RPR and didn’t do club level. I don’t think you’d get as much use from it your first visit since you’ll prob be in the parks a ton unless your planning more than 5 days and not hitting Disney. We are planning club level for visit #2 this fall

I am so excited!!!!

DH called Chase and asked for his CIP app (from, you know March 1) to be closed on Friday. The rep said it was closed and suggested he apply again. Then he (I) applied again on Saturday and every time I called the application status line over the weekend (a restrained 10 times) it tried to connect me to a rep which I avoid when I'm calling about DH since apparently I don't have an abnormally low voice so can't genderbend like some people. ahem. Sadness, despair. Then I called this am and received the long awaited message...APPROVED! Oh wow, I can just see those 95K URs being transferred...whoo hooo!

ETA-I keep calling to make sure I'm not dreaming, lol.

Just to provide a DP...

Trying to buy Disney tickets for me and P2. Already got P2's using his capital one venture for the statement credit - still need to finish meeting the minimum spend but almost there. I'm at 5/24 with last capital one credit card being the quicksilver on 10/17. Just applied for the capital one venture and was denied; not sure why, I'll have to wait for the letter. Stats are below for most recent cards. However, I applied for the Barclay Arrival Plus (thanks to @GlamMistress 's post!) and was approved so I'll use that for my tickets. Didn't want to have a $5k spend but I could make it work.

10/17 Capital One Quicksilver
1/18 Wells Fargo Rewards Visa
5/18 Marriott
5/18 Citi Doublecash
9/18 CIP
1/19 SW Biz
1/19 SW Plus

I have stayed club level RPR several times, including last November. In case you don't know, it appears they have fewer hot breakfast offerings than PBH. There were usually some eggs. After 8 nights my DH was somewhat bored with the breakfast offerings. I'm fine with coffee, oatmeal, and fruit, but from reading the resort threads in the Uni section it seems PBH has more hot offerings. Being on the 7th floor was very convenient for breakfast since most club rooms are on that floor also, with some on 6.

I think I’m going to burn one of my 5/24 slots on a Barclay Arrival+ in about a week. Been trying to decide on a non chase card until I can get CIP2 sometime in June. I just want to double check and make sure my plan is ok. My last 24 months of stats:

5/17 BoA AAA Visa
6/18 CIP
10/18 CSR
11/18 Hilton biz
1/19 SW biz
3/4/19 SW Priority

My CL on the SW Priority is very high and I plan to lower that today, but I also have $2k balance on it. I hadn’t planned to pay it down until payment will be due mid May. Will either of these two facts make a difference with the Barclay app? I’ll pay it off earlier if it makes a difference.

I’d recommend reading the Disney World tips page on DISchurners.

I haven’t done it, but I’d imagine that commuting from Universal to Disney would be a huge pain (but I’m comparing that to the walk from a Deluxe resort lol).

We've done this most trips via uber or lyft. We have had no issues, usually 20ish min ride. We are two adults typically with minimal-ish bags, but the first time we had 3 suitcases, 2 backpacks, a garment bag with my wedding dress, and 3 additional people with us... other options you could look at would be scheduling a car or shuttle with Mears or doing a one way rental car for yourselves.
