Both are one in the same. A roller coaster by theory doesn’t have to drop you off at the same place as it starts. If it didn’t then it would be transportation. Space Mountain drops you off at a place different from where you got on so technically in a way it’s very unhelpful transportation with some thrills in the middle.
I understand the point you're trying to make but I don't view them in the same scope. A thrillride ... people purposely avoid those kind of things because of some fear. People will board public transportation because there's more a feel of "safeness" to it. Regardless if I agree with that logic.
And if Hagrid's had failed and people were stuck 60 feet in the air for 3 hours you know as well as I do it would have been with more scrutiny than a "it happens" mentality.
