News Round Up 2020

But the procedure changed since then, and the new procedure should avoid the same issues. 🤷‍♂️

That is true - the new procedure is more in line with what they tried that one EMH day

I still think they would find it messy with having to let everyone into the park (e.g., taping in) early but then only those with EMH priviledges being able to go beyond certain points - guess you could open it up everywhere but require people to scan their MB get onto a ride or something rather than a "rope drop" point where you would have to check everyone's access

Any word on the potential of FP / Stand By / VQ for Mickey's Runaway Railway? If a VQ, how that would impact Rise of the Resistance VQ? FP or not, if MMRR would have an impact on FP Tiering at DHS?
We're heading down in April, and I'm trying not to think about how chaotic it will be if both rides are using VQ...and whether or not it'll be possible to do both!

I think the new standard is going to be "No FP for new rides". FOP has 240 minute waits 3 years later with FP+, while Smuggler's Run has 70 minute waits without. I suspect MMRR will open without a FP+ line either. Eventually they will all get them - but that eventually will depend somewhat on popularity. I foresee MMRR getting FP+ before the Star Wars rides do, but probably not until the fall.

Just hold the non-EMH guests in the Echo Lake area.
What we experienced twice right before New Year's was that they held everyone on the main street in DHS and you could not go towards Echo Lake or past the "split" area in front of the Chinese Theater. The only exception was that they did open Sunset Blvd so people could start funneling down there towards Tower and Rock 'n' Rollercoaster. The two days we were there to get the boarding group, there was almost no room to move (until we went down Sunset Blvd). It would be just to chaotic to try and filter out the EMH people and those just wanting to get a boarding group for RotR. It makes sense, to me, to do the EMH in the evenings until the point that the boarding groups are no longer needed with RotR.

As for DL, it is a much smaller # of people that can get in for EMH. So DL could handle having RotR open with EMH.

I agree. Probably the same with Ratatouille, Tron and Guardians of the Galaxy as well ... If any of these new and upcoming rides opened with FP+, there would just be massive complaints of:
1) Not being able to get the FP at the 60 day mark (because of the whole "length of stay" bonus).
You'll have guests who have 4-5 night stays not be able to get a FP for ANY of the new rides (since you still can't for SDD and FOP unless you have 5+ night stays (though you may get "lucky"). So that just causes guest frustration and devalues the "bonus" of staying onsite.

2) Really long standby lines which will frustrate guests (especially the guests from #1 who couldn't get 60 day FP despite trying right at the first available minute).
Granted, I don't think the new rides will have as long Standby lines as FOP. FOP suffers from only having two Tier 1 rides (and really, who is picking River Journey except people who just can't get FOP) and AK suffers from only having a handful of ride attractions total. DHS has enough now that FP+ should work better there now, but it would still require heavy Tier 1 tiering.

FP+ just doesn't work very well with high-demand attractions and only "feels" like a perk but it artificially inflates the Standby line so much.

Like I've said elsewhere .. also not having free FP+ for these new attractions makes it a LOT easier to just introduce a new FP+ "Premium" tier that lets you purchase Fast Passes for those new rides (that have never had free Fast Passes (so it's not like they are taking away anything).

MMRR and Ratatouille are opening with sufficient capacity to service most interested riders most days. If the rides work reliably (IF!), they may open with a VQ but it will prove hilariously unnecessary (like it did for SWGE) rather quickly, especially if they limit people to one ride per day. That may impact their decision making for Tron and GOTG.

It will be fascinating to see what happens to SDD FP availability once MFSR, ROTR, and MMRR are all on FP. Three years ago, it was impossible to get a TSM FP only 60 days out...

Assuming this also for my June so our only repeat WDW park will be HS for whatever we missed.

I agree that both MMRR and Rat Ride will prob get fast pass eventually due to capacity, but I suspect MMRR will get it before Rat if they do, as Rat ride although a tested tech still has its issues every now and then and its still a popular ride that getting fast passes for isnt always easy even in DLP to this day, and they have the old fast pass system. On average Rat Ride in Paris still has over 100 minute wait and thats with there Hollywood studio which has a much lower attendance rate then Epcot. Also the hype for Rat ride domestically is pretty high. I suspect that it might be a year or more before it gets a fast pass. MMRR although people are looking forward to it, i feel benefits from the fact that so many new rides have opened up over the past 3 years at Hollywood studio that even with low ride numbers the hunger for it will be less than the other new rides at Hollywood especially since its so close to rise.

The question i would have though on top of it, is if they do go for a virtual queue for MMRR and they continue to keep the Virtual Queue for Rise, will they only allow you to sign up for one virtual queue per day per guest. Either Rise or MMRR and if so what will that look like

I am hoping to ride MMRR in June. I was hoping to look for FP, but there won't be that option. So I will see what is possible. Luckily, I don't want to do the GE rides, so, well, it is what it is, we'll see.

I was wondering about that too. Would be interesting if this "virtual queue" becomes like it's own "FP" alotment - or almost like MaxPass or something. So you can have your pre-booked FPs but then day of you go early to get your "BG/MaxPaass/whatever" for another "tier 1" level ride

We're planning on doing the 4 Park Magic ticket, so we can't repeat. I guess if it's too bad, we'll have have to go back sooner haha

That is what we have - actually got them so sale on Black Friday ... for a family of 5 it saved us over $500 vs regular tickets and nearly $900 vs with hopper option, so not insignificant ...

..... but does add to my planning stress ;)

There are many "Good Neighbor hotels" but only a handful of "WDW Official" hotels. The "good neighbor" hotels meet certain standards that Disney set forth and have ticket agents available in their lobbies. The "WDW Official" hotels are the ones that offer 60 day FP and EMH, none of them are in Flamingo Crossing. The BW that is included is the one close to Disney Springs.
Got it

If that's the case, then they will begin to charge for it like MaxPass. :)

If they do decide to charge for the queue though, they would have to change the app to allow payment option and then because Rise is still technically facing some issues of downtime because of the frequency of break downs, they would need to also fine a way to facilitate guest refunds should they not get to your boarding group. To mitigate that then I suspect they would have to reduce allotment of boarding passes to pad the bottom line and then just open it up to walk ups after all the boarding groups are done for the day. Which would be its own logistical issue. So although I do see the attraction of "maxpassing" the virtual queue for profit , i suspect it will not happen
