News Round Up 2020

If parks are closed, why wouldn't Disney use their own resorts? Why give up revenue? I mean short of the Swolphin or the 4 Seasons, I can't imagine Disney would have them anywhere else.

You dont have to staff and pay and turn on the heat for others, As the land owners the resorts are on I am sure disney gets something regardless if its there hotel or not. Right now with the parks close its a loss anyway, right now they arent paying for staffing other then the health benifits and education. As disney is going to go to a phased opening, it might make better fiscal sense not to spend all the money on opening resorts that will not have guests who are paying for your food park admissions and other upsells a average Disney guest would. Also if disney is going with a phased reopening and is only allowing resort guests back into the park and or locals with APs, it might cut out the friendly neighbor policy for several months. Hurting these partner hotels. So shifting these guests to hotels with better amenities might both be less of a fiscal undertaking and might help some of these extra capacity hotels that Disney uses to help keep there park full durring non covid situations, in a better fiscal outlook. Swan and Dolphin makes sense, so does, other hotels, the ones that cater to the more wealthier clientele. Let them pay for the constant cleaning and staffing of kitchens that dont get outside guests. Disney needs to make a level of profit for any hotel to be open.

seeing people reporting thei trips booked at WDW for early June are getting cancellation notices via e-mailt his morning (saw one that was booked for June 1-12, another for June 2-6 ... might be seeing some more developments today

I was reading the covid thread yesterday, and people were already seeing FPs and ADRs being cancelled in June. Some thought it was an MDE glitch. Who could blame them for thinking that? However, now I think it was a precursor for the real cancellations. I am torn about whether I want to do our July trip or not. Our cruise got cancelled yesterday, so we rebooked for next summer. I was hoping they would be open for a few weeks before our trip to iron out issues. We have already decided to drive instead of flying. The thought of getting onto an airplane right now makes me feel slight panic. I already told DH that we should quarantine at home for 14 days if we do go. We are still working from home anyway, and I hope to keep it that way for a while.

Can you even imagine an NBA player sleeping in a value bed or even a moderate.
The players’ union specifies certain hotel features and amenities for hotels, when players are on the road. The facility manager at one of the hotels used by NBA teams indicated to me that they needed to have California King beds (84” long vs. normal King @ 80” long), 24 hour room service, etc.; most properties fall in the luxury or premium class.

About half of the hotels are under the Marriott umbrella, with about half of those Westin, followed by luxury brands such as St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton. In Orlando, teams stay at the Grand Bohemian (another under the Marriott umbrella). It is a small hotel (247 guest rooms), but close to the Amway Center.

So, if the NBA decides on the Orlando area, I would not be surprised if Marriott properties pick up the business.

That was my expectation and why I don’t think it will affect disney hotels if they host any of these leagues.

The league is working closely with the players union and if the choice is stay in a Queen bed or don’t play and miss out on 20% of your salary, I’m guessing they’ll make a concession.

If bed size is a hold up, the NBA will buy and install king size beds in the rooms. That expense isn’t big enough to lose the money from the playoffs.

I imagine the definition of "live action" in this case would mean a combination of live action and animation, likely toward the Lion King remake end of the spectrum. I could totally see them using The Mandalorian's virtual set technique in conjunction with motion capture.

If D+ does a Kingdom Hearts series, I'm strongly in the camp of keeping it fully animated in the style of the series as the art direction is such a huge parts of the games. If it's a huge budget production, then they could mix live action and CG ... but I don't think they'd have the budget to do live action justice for this show.

If D+ goes the live action route, I've got a sinking feeling this may end up looking like Disney Channel's 'Descendants' meets Kingdom Hearts which is going to tick off a lot of fans

I don't see Disney cutting out the good neighbor hotel program. They need them as things ramp up and memories are long.
