Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

Another big benefit of onsite hotels is Disney transportation + Magical Express + no resort fees.

If I stay offsite, I'm probably paying $40/day for a car + $25 a day for theme park parking + $25 a day of resort fees for a total of $90.

If I stay at the all-stars, I have free transportation and no resort fees. From a strict monetary standpoint, that offsite hotel has to be $90 per night cheaper to break even.
That's only three hotels where you can honestly make that comparison though. The rack rates from moderates and up wouldn't equate. That's a lot of inventory.

You can probably toss Pop into the value mix too.

But really its all resorts as long as your comparing Apples to Apples. It doesn't matter which category we are talking about, the value of the transportation is roughly $80 to $90 per night. If your looking for a "Deluxe" experience, the offsite deluxe hotel has to be $90 less per night than the Polynesian or Contemporary.

Remember when I wrote about this SIX YEARS AGO and I said it would happen after Avatarland and Star Wars land was built?

I'm the guy who said there was a Solo boycott and the movie would bomb at around $500 million (I believe that thread was deleted because there was no "proof" of a boycott so it wasn't allowed)

I'm the one who said Rise of Skywalker would come in at $1 billion (I believe that is still up).

Gee, it seems like I know what I'm talking about.

But rteetz still doesn't respect my connections...

Wouldn’t this undercut EMM and After Hours? Are you paying for those events solely for the low crowd level in the walkway areas?

Those were some good calls you made. :worship:

I was wondering as well. But I think they will just do crowd control during the regular hours, in effect making the whole day similar or even better than the after hours events.

It just comes down to what those limited guests will be willing to spend.

I can tell you looking at today's crowds, nobody would buy a FP or even need one.

To sell those, they will need some pretty significant crowds.

Not sure Disney wants to make staying off-site more attractive than on though. Without some sort of ride related perk that comes with your on-site stay, the dollars just wouldn't add up for many guests. Shanghai doesn't have the resort inventory that WDW has to fill, so paying extra to play is a no brainer. Same for many other U.S. parks that are day trip kind of places. It's an apples to oranges kind of comparison IMO.

I guess they could always offer free FP for deluxe, or 90 day window for deluxe, 60 day mod and 30 day value. Day of for the rest.

There's many ways they could incentivise on site stays if the choose.

Did I miss something? Has there actually been any kind of confirmation that WDW is now or will in the future charge for fast passes? Or is this the same conjecture from 2014 being repeated?

Ah, yes, because cherry-picking correctly estimated box office totals is super related to having actual insider information about Disney Parks. Also, the fact that you called them “Avatarland” and “Star Wars Land” implies that you don’t have actual connections and are just throwing out wild guesses.

Lol

Pay for fastpass rumors have been around since their inception. This has nothing to do with respect. Your threads about Star Wars have nothing to do with this either, no need to even bring that up.

From Disney’s standpoint, at steady state they see very high on-site occupancy rates...why not test the limit of what people are willing to pay and remove the FP window benefit? They can always add back perks (increased EMH, “free FP” with certain hotel bookings, etc.) as needed.

I actually think the WDW on-site hotels offer a very unique experience in their own right. Sure the deluxe rack rates are bonkers, but I would pay a premium to stay there for sure even with limited additional benefits.

Covid-19, the closing of the parks and the re-opening of the parks without FP+ is exactly what Disney needed to eliminate the 3 free fast passes. It will probably stay this way through 2021 and when they do bring them back, they will probably do so as a paid version. Enough time will have passed that most people will not feel cheated.

Where this breaks down is not everyone flies and people of annual passes.

If you have annual passes you do not pay for parking at the parks.

Plus many people drive so they don't have the rental car costs. So a comparable off-property hotel only needs be $25 cheaper than an on property.

Some off property hotels do offer transportation to the parks, maybe not as frequent as on-site hotels but the option is there.

Also the Disney Springs hotels are an option they offer bus transportation along with walking over to Disney Springs to utilize their buses.

I don't disagree with any of that. At the end of the day, there is a limited supply of rooms on property. Disney doesn't have to sell to everyone. Between the number of guests that do fly combined with those who value the "Disney Bubble", these two groups only need to make up the number of available rooms.

If they find that they can't sell enough to those two groups to fill their capacity, then they have to either lower the price, or offer more incentives.
