News Round Up 2020

Exactly, offering discounts to people that don't need them to come doesn't make financial sense for them. I'm sure that's the feeling. (A) most people won't come from farther and (B) those that do don't need this incentive.

But I agree - why not offer to everyone. But on the other hand - some people might also go if they think it is a targeted special. It's the same as getting a Disney code in your e-mail. "OH I get a discount special for me! Let's go!"

That's certainly where my mind went with it. By making it "exclusive", you also make it more enticing to some.

The problem is, it seems a lot of people are also staying away due to the perceived less value they are getting AT the parks (not the resorts). Reduced hours, restricted capacity, wearing masks, closed attractions and restaurants. That is probably keeping just as many people away as the fear of the virus is.

and then the complicating factor is one of the values there of going now is the low crowds and how you can get so much done even in those reduced hours including a lot of headliners multiple times

As more people come (be it more get comfortable with coming or due to these discounts) does that value then lessen as well and then does that deter people from coming - so hard to find that balance

I think Disney should take all the lights from The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights (they still have them right?) and create some sort of drive through thing. Sell tickets for $50/car and donate to some worthy cause.

The lights belonging to the Osbornes were returned. Disney had added stuff over the years. Who knows what happened to that? Outside certain cm’s.

Thing is, what does it hurt to go further away????? I will tell you, nothing. As long as they are confident in their safety precautions, not a thing. Yeah, not many will come from farther away, but why exclude them when you are reading stories about the furloughed employees standing in free food lines? My biggest beef is they won't let me (as of now)buy an annual pass before our December trip because I planned to visit 3 times in the following 12 months and that is the only thing that would actually qualify me for any discounts on my December trip. I am willing to pay for it right now. But they won't let me.

Yep me too. I've mentioned before on these boards that we are moving to Orlando in mid-November and have no idea if we'll be able to get APs. If Disney still isn't offering them, we'll at least be able to get Universal APs but will still be annoyed. No way I'm spending money getting a one day or multi day ticket, that money could go toward the cost of an AP if they ever start selling again.

But those that are willing to come from further away, will still come, and Disney will get more money out of them. They’re trying to entice people that are closer and are on the fence about going to say “eh why not, let’s go.”

Not true. I'm coming to Orlando in October for a week. I live in Kansas City, so am considered far away but I was not graced with a discount. I'm very willing to spend that week at a Disney hotel (and not even go to the parks) but there is no way I'm staying at a Disney hotel without a discount. Maybe I'm an outlier, but I can't be the only one that thinks this way.

More slight returns to normal! Life finds a way!

Odd that Cinderella's Royal Table is returning not as a character meal, but Hollywood & Vine is. (Is it because the princess are face characters that Disney doesn't want to be seen wearing a mask? (Which I assume they would technically have to since they would be in close proximity to people NOT wearing masks).

I'm not sure who will find it worth dining there with no princesses.

Your logic seems sound to me.
I'm sure the prices have been adjusted to take that into account. (did I utilize the sarcasm font there....)

yeah, tough to justifty the cost (assuming it doesn't adjust) with no princesses .... I do think if they brought it down even a little (say, $55 for dinner instead of $75), a lot of people would be up for trying it that haven't done it in the past

Well, I guess I'm one who would dine there without Princesses.... I understand the attraction for families with children, but when we go, we are groups of adults only... so the characters are cute and fun to watch, that's not why we book dining venues. If they have good food and wine selections, it's a place to consider because of the unique setting.

I've been thinking about this a lot (had several long car trips lately).

They absolutely cannot recast. It would be a mess and they just can't.

I know Shuri was the Black Panther in the comics, but I really don't think it fits her character in the movie. She is more of the Q to James Bond.

Not much else they can do if they're insisting that the Black Panther has to stay in the royal family, or else I'd suggest Danai Gurira's character Okoye or M'Baka. I also wouldn't mind see Nakia become the Black Panther, they could arrange it so they were married off screen and she became Queen, and could then become Black Panther.

I also really went off on a tangent and thought that maybe the reason Nakia and T'Challa had broken it off earlier in life is because she got pregnant and scared and ran off to raise the baby. But that's really going off the rails.

It will be interesting to see how the adjust buffet restaurants, and what exactly the 'monster feast served to your table' entails.
