News Round Up 2020

I would hate to lose all those Regal Movie gift cards I have accumulated🙁

The big theater chains will, and have reopened so at some point you’ll be able to use those, even if you’re waiting until it’s absolutely safe enough to do so. But I wouldn’t expect (without a buy-out) these theaters to be around another 2-3 years without a miracle.

Theatre here (near Toronto Canada) opened and closed even though they are allowed to be open because so few people were going and they were all old movies. They tried $5 tickets and many other incentives but people just don’t fell safe being in a theatre yet.

I agree there are details missing - but if that guest is even jokingly insinuating he or someone else actually has Covid, then that isn't just a joke it is a public health issue. It would be akin to shouting "fire" in a crowded building

Not saying the CM handled things 100% the best way, but they may have felt they needed to stop him from continuing in the queue if there was even a chance they actively had Covid.
Or something like bomb on an airplane.

Well there’s also not really a good market for theatrical viewings of catalog films. People say they want to see these older films in theaters, but a very small percentage of people actually do, even if they were free. Obviously covid has a lot to do with it as well. But there hasn’t been anything that’s been released that’s enticing enough to get people into a theater. Christopher Nolan films are typically moneymakers, but his movies are very niche and Tenent just wasn’t the right movie to get people back. Same with New Mutants. The real test is a movie like black widow, Wonder Woman, something that’s not a “thinker”. It has to be something with connective tissue, or a feel good story

Movies in the theaters are some of the things I miss the most.📽

We miss it too. We have seen two movies though: Tenet and Ghostbusters. Our home theater is Alamo Drafthouse though, so it's more of an experience than a place to dump your teens. We have our tickets for Wonder Woman. I would love to see Dune in the theater. There are others that I wish we could have seen, but I don't feel comfortable going to the theater too often. I just hope Alamo in Austin doesn't go under. I hate going to Regal or AMC.

Question. So this is a whole new show this year? I never really watched the Christmas Day shows in the past because it felt like it was just the Thanksgiving show repackaged with the same musical guests and such. But again .. I never tuned in (pretty busy Christmas morning).

Saw that the Holiday Sing-Along is on Disney+ today, so that will be some fun watching sometime soon.

Gotta look for more "home" holiday traditions with a lot of the "normal" traditions (going to see Santa, Christmas parades, etc.) all cancelled.

No they are supposed to use segments from years past. So some new and some old.

Well the Christmas show was always the parade, which the Thanksgiving show never had. A lot of the musical guests were the same between both shows in normal years. It was the parade that was the big draw of the Christmas special normally.

Gotcha .. so .. they will have a few "new" segments (like the Thanksgiving show) and re-show maybe old parade and musical guests. Thank you. I guess them filming it in two separate times with a new host threw me off. I enjoyed the dance number at the beginning of the Thanksgiving show throughout a very empty Disneyland.

Maybe we'll have it on in the background depending on what stage of the Christmas day we are in :). Things are going to be a bit different this year.

It used to be the big draw. Every Christmas day it was part of morning routine. After opening gifts we would watch the parade. I still enjoy the parade, I just miss it being just about the parade. I have no interest in any of singers as it's not the people I listen to. Now if they had Dave Matthews perform I would listen.

Yeah a lot of the musical guests I never even knew who they were. But they would have 1-2 each year that would be well known, like Sting or Mariah Carey. We always DVRed it in the morning and watched it at night (because other than Hallmark channel most TV channels believe Christmas ends at 8pm).
