ABD trimming departure dates

ABD is now trimming back departure dates. We are still scheduled to go to Poland in late September 2021 and five of the departure dates on this trip have now disappeared on the website. Ours is still posted. I cross checked the Norway trip. Two departures have disappeared. (Compare the ABD site with the Dreams Unlimited site for date listings). My guess is they are deleting trips without sufficient signups now and the next steps will be COVID based cancellations. My hope is that they are trying not to do to others what they did to us - when COVID cancelled our inaugural Rhone River tour, we willingly moved to another later date, which we discovered had so few people signed up it was not going to go. Once cancelled for lack of people, we moved a third time to yet another date, which was also then cancelled due to lack of people. Each time we had been assured the trip was good to go and each time we booked pre and post days on our own. Not a good time dealing with dealing with the pre and post reschedules/cancellations.

Given what I consider the single minded selfishness of midland America and North Carolina to Texas over simple health protocols which are similar to what ABD has already clearly embraced, we are now not likely to get a timely handle on the pandemic in time to travel again this year either, even in Disney pods. ARRRGH.

I suspect you are correct re lack of signups. I was on the May Poland departure, now removed. Last October it had 13 people, by the time I dropped last month before my PIF date it was down to 6 people. In October, when I was checking on the numbers for my departure, some of the September trips only had 2 or 4 people at that time. There was one summer departure with approx 20 & it was the largest. One of the June departures had less than 10.

I can’t see how those numbers would have gone up a lot yet since then. Maybe they are hoping with more people who get vaccines plus overall better virus numbers, and of course borders opening up, that some of the later trips will get enough interest to be able to go.

i still very much want to do the trip, but am not able to commit to any possible 2021 date for a few more months....need a vaccine plus have some other travels in limbo-land that currently conflict with what would be preferred dates. It’s likely 2022 for me, but we shall see.

Slightly OT: how do you know how many people are signed up for your adventure? My daughter and I are signed up for the Sept 9 Italy and Switzerland tour and it’s still showing available.

You can call ABD and ask them. They will tell you.

It looks like some more of the "trimming" continues, or there has been a mad rush to book. Now all trips to Australia until December 19 are "waitlist."
Japan is all waitlist until August, China until mid September. Not much of a change yet on Europe departures...

Not surprising for Japan - they have the rescheduled 2020 Olympics this summer in August and have recently said no foreign visitors will be permitted to attend. So can’t see them allowing a lot of foreign travel before then either.

Yes, my guess would be they are consolidating trips to try and prevent cancelling as much as possible. But if other countries still won't let Americans in, it's not going to do much good. :(

Even in you have received both shots you would still have to quarantine 14 days in Canada (3 in a government-approved hotel with 2 supervised fresh air breaks / day and the remainder in isolation elsewhere, plus mandatory testing on arrival and again on day 10 {you're given a kit to take home with you}). My friend's niece arrived from Israel last week (she's had both shots) and had to follow this protocol. No word on when the 3 day hotel quarantine will end, but from all accounts, it's a disaster and something that everyone should try to avoid.

China now only has two trips listed for this year. Disneyland Paris has none. Germany has now waitlisted its first six trips and doesn't start until the very end of July. Indeed, the majority of the trips are now waitlisted for destinations until late July, where they were available last week. Perhaps there has been a mad rush to sign up but I think they are continuing to trim back the trips.

Our May 11, 2021 Egypt ABD has been cancelled but shows as waitlisted. I suspect these waitlisted trips have been cancelled as well. We still have Portugal/Spain on the books for this September but the first Portugal trip is now showing as July 24th and July 19th for Spain. We will cancel before pay in full in July if these countries are still not open. Now to plan a backup trip...

When did your trip get cancelled? We are supposed to go to Egypt on May 25 trip and have not been cancelled yet...

Dang, sorry to hear that @CaliKris . Do you know if it was cancelled because there was a low number of guests signed up? Or just general continued covid concerns?
I think it was cancelled due to COVID and the Nile river cruise. There were 17 people on it the last time I checked. We are now signed up for the Feb 15th, 2022. Is that the one you are on?

Great! I guess we have come full circle. Ha, ha! The weather will definitely be better in February and hopefully the Grand Egyptian Museum will be open by then.

This is my hope too! Fingers crossed! Although I'm a bit miffed they recently moved quite a few mummies (including Rameses II and Hatshepsut) to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization rather than the GEM. I was hoping to pay them a visit! C'est la vie I guess lol.

Bummer! I just assumed when I heard about the parade of mummies that they were all headed to the GEM. I guess we will try to plan on the National Museum for our pre-day.
