I rebooked a WN flight I'm supposed to take this upcoming Sunday to a less convenient and a little more expensive DL flight after seeing this mess. At least the 3rd meltdown they've had in the last 4 months. Not ok. Especially not ok were the FT reports of WN refusing to give people their bags despite the bags being in the same airport as the people and their flights being cancelled/rebooked days later. The flight I was supposed to take may run smoothly next weekend (it was cancelled this weekend) but I don't need to spend my relaxing girl's weekend worried I'll be stuck in Phoenix for days on end/having to pay through the nose for alternate transport.
I've still got both booked for early am tomorrow...I keep wanting to hang onto SWA bc it was such a good deal.... but I'm terrified if I let go of either one (AA or SWA) the one I keep will then be a bust -I've never done this before,I will literally cancel one like 15 minutes prior to boarding at like 4:45 am.......

You've gotten good comments about your situation. The only other thing I'd add is keep in mind what your Chase 5/24 status is like if you're intending to keep getting Chase cards. A PC will not affect 5/24, but a new application for a personal card will.

Since they have a Plat Amex, they can simply transfer 1000 MRs over to Hilton to keep their account active. Just need to do it every 15 months since Hilton points expire unless there's activity every 15 months (to the day!). There is a temporary halt to point expiry until Dec 31, 2021.
Hilton is extending point expiry until 12/31/2022 now.
  • Extending Points Expiration. We’re extending Points expiration to December 31, 2022, giving you more flexibility to use your Points for your return to travel.

I applied a few days ago for a sapphire preferred using a 100000 referral from my daughter. For the first time, I wasn’t approved instantly. I had lowered some of my credit limits beforehand because I was pretty close to 50% of my income. I stalked the status line for a few days, assuming my credit limits might be the problem. I was finally approved after they moved some credit around from one of my other cards. The reason given in the letter posted to my account? “Low usage of Chase credit lines.” 😂😂

In other words, I don’t spend enough with them. I’m a low rent kind of gal, lol. To be fair, over the past nine months I have put most, but certainly not all, of my spend on another card to reach a bonus level.

Sadly, I think this probably doesn’t bode well for any future Chase cards. I have three Freedoms due to product changes, a SW card, an IHG , and a Marriott. I had the Reserve, which I just pc’d to a Freedom so I could apply for the preferred. Should a close a couple? I’d like to keep the IHG, because although it has a $49 annual fee, I can always find a use for the free night. The Marriott, not so much, plus I think that fee is $95.

And I’ll NEVER be able to keep AMEX happy. I don’t have one yet, but whatever my first one is will probably be my last one. 😉

That’s a little worrisome. But I guess Low Usage is better than Low Utilization? Kinda sounds like Chase would be happy with more frequent (even if small) purchases?
Although, I’m like you and just don’t buy much (generally).

Is your main reason for not using the Chase travel portal for changes / cancellations? I've used it a lot to book our rental cars, but I always use points. The rates I've booked have always had free cancellation and when I've found a lower rate, I just rebook and then cancel the first reservation. I do have to have enough points to at least temporarily have both bookings, but otherwise, I've never run into problems doing it that way.

We are not Costco members, but may end up joining sometime because I think DH would like it if we could add my name to the reservations so I could drive sometime too. He doesn't mind driving, but sometimes it would be handy if we both could.

I always check autoslash as well and have never really found anything cheaper than what I'm booking with my URs so I've always stuck with that. I didn't know they could search Costco rates, so that's definitely good to know for the future.
Thanks! I’ll try auto slash, but I’ve been using the Chase travel portal for rental cars for years and never had any issues.
I am looking at this now. So, if I book a rental car using my UR points, and it says "no cancellation fees, pay now and save, taxes and fees", I can cancel and the points will just go back in my account?
I am hoarding UR"s and rentals are so bad right now, thinking it may finally be time to use some.

Yes. Super easy. I always pay about $1-$5 with our CSR. Never had any issues adding a second driver at the counter.

I do not have CSR. I assume this is for insurance purposes? Does any other card have such features?
The CSP also has primary rental insurance, you can pay for it with most AMEX cards, the Capital One Spark has it and I think the Ritz-Carlton.

Thanks! I have a CSP. Dh does not and he would be the renter on one of the cards. Have you ever had to use the insurance? He has CIC CIU Amex BBP, Delta Plat. Can’t remember what else at moment 😜

Looks like the CIC and CIU offer primary as well. The BBP and Delta Plat should offer the paid version from AMEX, I know my Delta Gold had the option.
https://thepointsguy.com/guide/cards-primary-car-rental-coverage/I have not had to use the coverage on my CSP, but I feel a lot better knowing it's there.
