How often do you shop at shopping malls?

For Me….Approximately 5 - 10 times a year
DD18 needs a white dress for graduation day (the girls at her HS have been wearing a white dress under their grad robe since before I graduated from there) so we went to the local mall for the first time in 2022 a few days ago and we’ll go to another one tomorrow (casual white dresses aren’t easy to find).
During the summer, we normally go to a mall somewhere DD18 has games, to have something to do between games, and to get her in some air conditioning on a hot day. It’s always humorous taking sweaty and filthy girls to the mall - makes me laugh every time - LOL!
After summer is over, and DD18 goes to college, I don’t see me going to the mall for the rest of the year.

We have a lot of strip malls around, so I go to some stores in them.
An actual mall where are the stores are inside, not for a couple of years.
The malls closest to me are all outside entry stores.....like a neighborhood of stores....and even then, I only go to a couple of stores for specific things. Haven't been browsing in a long time.

There is a nice mall by us that though has lost many of our favorite stores, replaced them with some quirky ones. We go out to eat at nearby restaurants and walk around afterwards. We’ll go into the Barnes & Nobles, Dicks, and others. They have not replaced Sears or JCPenneys, and the upper level now has medical spaces where in the past I think it was office space, never retail except the big department stores.

I do a lot of shopping online, but I had one of my first jobs in this mall and would hate to see it close 😉. We try to support it.

The mall in our area closed a number of years ago. There are a few a half hour away in different directions and we go to them a few times a year.

Like I said the other day, Sandy, you usually tell a little story, give a little background on where your polls come from. I like that.

I rarely go inside malls anymore, but go to the department stores or stores on the perimeter of the parking lot.

Target is physically attached to the mall and has an interior entrance, but I rarely wander out.

I used to be a mall rat as a teen/young adult, but the stores are of little interest to me anymore. Maybe just Williams-Sonoma or Vera Bradley.

Lots of malls have died or are on their last legs. Struggling malls are sad.

My favorite as a teen was the Echelon Mall in Voorhees, NJ. It was a happening place. Now it’s practically deserted and the extension that was built in the late 70s was knocked down about 10 years ago. A brand new Sears extension opened about 1998 and closed within a few years.

I do most of my shopping online. I voted desperate because two weeks ago I had to go in a mall to get to the furniture store I needed to visit.

Used to go all the time - a lot of stores have closed - which makes me sad - malls have closed - other malls have shootings - or incidents with fights that lead to shootings several times - does not really encourage me to want to go to the mall - I only go if I have to - situation that can’t be handled any other way - like if I have to go to jewelry store to get my rings inspected - which the one by me closed during Covid and never reopened so now I have to go to another mall I would rather never go to as it’s the mall that has the fights and shootings
I have been shopping more and more at kohls or online but I do miss the old days of mall shopping and having lunch - I don’t believe malls see the customers like they used too

:( Our malls used to be anchored by Sears, Zellers and then later, Target. All of those stores are now defunct in Canada and the state of our retail industry is very sad. I'm not much of a shopper and I can't remember the last time I had to go to the mall for anything. It's been at least a year, probably longer.

Love going to the mall. Our mall just put on an extension a few years ago. It a great walking mall in bad weather.

Plus I never shop for clothes on line I like to try them on and not have to try to return things .

We lost our big anchor store Sears years ago I miss it and now only have the Bay. Sure there are stores I don’t go in but I still window shop…lol

My HS used to do this as well and finally abandoned the 'tradition' about 10 years ago. It was a pain to find something to wear especially with at least 140 female graduates hunting at the same stores during the same time. I still get frustrated at the double standard of the male students wearing black robes and dress clothes (no jeans or sneakers) while the female students were required to wear white robes, white dresses or skirts and white shoes. The school colors are red & gray, so it wasn't a school spirit thing. Now all graduates wear the same color robe.

Old Navy has some cute inexpensive white dresses.

I used to spend a lot of time at the two malls where Mallrats was filmed. That movie completely revitalized the one they did the majority of the filming in. You wouldn't recognize it now.

I usually end up in a mall every couple months. There are some stores that aren't available outside of the mall here, and when it's 10 degrees outside it's kind of nice to walk around somewhere without worrying about slipping on ice.

Good lord I hate to shop. HATE IT. I go to the mall as infrequently as possible- not that there's much left in our local mall anymore. Occasionally I'll make a trip to Bath&Body works if there's a good sale and I can't get free shipping online. I'd WAY rather order a bunch of things online, try them on at home, and then return what doesn't fit or that I don't like, but I don't even do that much. I'll hit Kohl's a couple of times a year, Christmas shopping or when I need new tee shirts. Other than that? Walmart maybe once a month, same with Target (but usually only when DD is already going to Target and I'm along for the ride). If I'm shopping, it's a grocery store- I love to go grocery shopping when I have time to wander and browse!

So what remains of Canadian national retail chains, just The Bay? Canadian Tire?

I know Eaton’s went kaput and Target failed in Canada.

I voted 5 - 10 times a year. But that might pick up now that I'm more willing to go to the movies. I'm planning to have a movie filled spring and summer.

DS12 went to the mall a couple of weeks ago with his friends to see and movie and be a mallrat. So precious. I was a mallrat at that age. Giggle with friends, catch a movie, eat pizza, play at the arcade, visit the bookstore.....

Only 10 years ago, I used to go several times a month. When the kids were newborns, DH and would go to our local mall with the baby in the stroller almost every day just to walk around and get exercise and have coffee or lunch. That's what you do when you have a winter baby.

I still like going to the mall, but it's definitely changed. There are certain things where it's just easier to go to the mall and handle in person. Like fitting the kids in new blue jeans. And I still really enjoy going to Kohl's, but those locations are usually at an outdoor shopping plaza around here, always with a Target next door...
