Who else is freaking out their spouse is going to accidentally order the $5,000 cocktail in Hyperspace Lounge on the Wish?

It's demeaning to even have it as an option. A 100 dollar glass is an extravagance but 5000 dollars? That's just plain dumb and demeaning to the person who buys it and doesn't have anything better to do with their 5000 dollars, to the company that thought they could sell it and to all the other guests who are made to seem inferior by its existence.

It's really no different from having Lamborghini and Bentley available to car buyers. There are plenty of people who spend $5K like ordinary people spend $50. How many of those people would sail on DCL is another story.

As Disney has always done, provide a option for somebody that wants to spend the money. We were looking at cruises in Europe 12night med cruise in a Concierge Family Veranda for (2) adults, (1) 12yrs is $46,000
My thought is flat wow. But obviously they are getting it. So a $5k drink is well extravagant but so is the Club 33 and so on. $25K to join and $10k a year dues, that doesn't even cover the cost of dinner to eat there @ over $100-150 per person.

Heck we did Remy on the Fantasy one and only one time with the Wine Package that pairs with each course, 2 adults was over $700 before tip. Was it amazing and awesome? Yes, will we do it it again doubtful, We like Palo better, my visa likes Palo better too.

I kind of think owning a lamborghini is more like a $100 drink. its extravagent but you can see what you are paying for. Somewhat. A $5000 drink, however, is more like buying a 10 million dollar vehicle built by a famous race car driver who died in a fiery car crash. Its not really any more fancy then the lamborghini. You are just buying it to say you bought a 300 million dollar vehicle built by that driver.

How is it demeaning? I wouldn't buy it, but if someone wants it and thinks it is a good use of their money, why would buying it demean them? Nor do I feel demeaned or inferior for not wanting to spend my money that way.

If I had $5,000 to spare and I wanted to have something space-y, I would go to the Star Wars experience at Disney World.

Other question, what if you are the spouse to accidentally order the cocktail? :)

I have had clients who purchased £5000 and more bottles of wine in restaurants. Thankfully they were paying, and it was the 80s and that’s how some people behaved. You get the provenance with wine, but with cocktails, you are not only dependent upon the provenance of the individual spirits but also the skills of the maker, not to overwhelm the flavours. I think that I would prefer to drink the expensive spirit straight, so I could taste it in a pure state.

Doesn’t make me feel inferior. Makes me feel smarter. We could afford a $5000 drink, but never would. What a waste of money.

I can’t decide if I want Pete to order it so he can tell us all about it on the DCL show podcast. Or if I want him NOT to order it so I can hear him on the DCL show giving one of his delightfully entertaining signature Pete rants about why he will never order it. We shall see!!! :disrocks::darth:

You will not find Pete ordering any alcoholic drinks. He has been sober for years. More likely buy it for someone on his team to try.

I am not justifying the price, but apparently - along with the drink itself (which I read is actually 3 drinks) - there is an "experience" Storm Troopers and maybe something else involved.

Yeah, sorry that’s kind of what I meant. Should have phrased it as will Pete PAY for it just so we can see what the big mystery is.

He doesn't drink though and I don't see him paying that much for his staff to try it. With that being said, they carry very expensive liquors onboard so $5k doesn't surprise me

If they sell one, they've made money.
But lets get real, Disney has found ways to get people to pay among the highest fares in the cruise industry. They perfected extra cost dining with Palo and Remy booked solid before most cruises. My last cruises, pre-pandemic, on Celebrity in October 2019, and on HAL in June 2012 they were BEGGING people to sign up for the extra cost restaurants.
And Disney has turned Repo cruises into a premium prices cruise. On other lines they generally offer bargain basement prices because most folks don't want a Repo cruise.
