Air passengers behaving badly

I think part of the issue is there has been a push for people to "stand up for themselves". So if they are "wronged", don't just accept it, push back. On it's face, that's a good thing. However, people see themselves as being "wronged" too easily (see the elder joke thread as an example). There's a middle ground. How to get people to see that (and stay in it), I don't know.
An interesting idea.

A great example of unintended consequences if true.

THe worst one that I saw recently was on a Southwest flight home from Orlando, I took an open Aisle seat next to a lady on teh window. A little kid in the middle seat in front of us was just slamming back into the seat, constantly bouncing and making the seatback move a good inch or two. The adults with thsis child never once told her to stop - they just acted like it wasn't happening. I looked over to the lady and said, "Well, at least nobody's going to sit between us." 🤣 Yeah, they didn't either!
I always expect rowdy kids on flights to/from Orlando. It's the flight route where noise cancelling headphones come in clutch.

I hadn't seen a passenger but did a steward last summer. She wasn't ours but was trying to use her entitlement of her free flight anytime. Our connection flight in chicago had gotten canceled that morning. Very full flight. The whole plane was pretty much on the standby list for the next flights. This was the second attempt for us and they only had 3 or so seats from the standby list. Our whole plane was waiting at the gate just in case. The steward comes up and demands she's to use her free flight anytime. The person at the gate acknowledged there was the canceled flight that morning so she couldn't go as there was the large standby list. She gets loud to acknowledge she's allowed any time per the rules. He still continues to say no; hinting the huge crowd of people on the standby list glaring at her. She said she's calling corporate. She must have been told she's entitled a seat or just to appease her they start to ask for anyone to give up theirs. She did look like she's going to cry but she was being mean about it to "read the room lady; you're being rude to everyone" sentiment. This was the best part of it. One lady was one of those who got off the standby kept saying she would if they hit a certain amount of credit. They slowly up the credit so the one lady starts to get antsy at $800 I think but doesn't jump up. We had seen there was now a later flight that was open so most everyone could get on and the antsy lady already had a confirmed ticket for. No one budged so they hit the magic number of $1000 which the one lady jumped up and told her friends she's getting paid. We all celebrated her. After they call the stewards name to get her seat. We're all glaring at her still. we all celebrated each other and another round for the one lady once her group gets called on. Definitely a moment that I could not believe but appreciated the celebrations as the group as we moved to the further gates in the day and got onto the final flight.

There is a lady that does this at the gym I go to for my lunch break. She sets up a whole tripod and everything and films it for social media I assume. I don't want to end up in her videos, so I normally get some free weights and head for the opposite end of the gym from her. Doesn't bother me too much, I just find it really odd in a crowded gym with business people trying to get a workout in on their lunch break.
Just grab some weights or start doing sit-ups while she's filming. All the while, grunt as deeply and loudly as you can.

On our flight a few weeks ago someone went to the bathroom in just their socks..yes at least they had socks on but gross, bathroom floors especially small airplane ones can be nasty :crazy2::crazy2:
Many flight attendants have told me that the most disgusting thing that they've seen is people going to the airplane restroom in socks or bare feet, precisely because of the uncleanliness of them and the fact that the floors are rarely cleaned.

I cannot speak for all airlines but I do believe that they do work the same way. If an employee is being re-positioned or must take that flight due to an assignment (not just that they didn't plan well and have to get home from vacation) then they wil be seted, even if it means bumbing a paying passenger (for copenston, of coursee).

But if the employee is just enjoying their free flying privileges', they will never bump paying passenger, even if that passenger agrees to it. Lets say there are ten paying passengers on the standby list and there is a no show. The next paying passenger on the list gets that seat.

Now, lets say, the employee has a sympathetic story and convinces the next standby passenger to give up their seat, the computer will allocate it to the next paying passenger, not the employee.

Maybe, the employee was being moved by the airline and actually was entitled to that seat. That does not excuse her embarrassing the airline but that may explain how she got on the plane.

Calling @fly girl. What were the procedures for your airline?

You'd probably be surprised how gross your own bathroom floor is. I never go barefoot anywhere I think it's gross, but socks...meh. You're going to take them off and wash them right.

I see people going barefoot outside at hotel pools and then walking into the bathroom barefoot.

To start with they are not called stewards are you stuck in the 70s? A non-revenue passenger will never bump a revenue passenger under any circumstances. A non-rev passenger would lose their flight privileges if they acted like that. I'm having a hard time believing your story.

Your home isn't a place where thousands of people go on day in and day out. Also you probably know when there's pee on your floor..well I'd hope so. Plus people are walking on the carpet of an airplane to get there which has had thousands of shoes and suitcase wheels not to mention based on the filth I saw leaving the airplane from other passengers it's just gross.

No one is making a comparison to one's own home because it is a different environment. It's not trying to say your home can't also have icky things but an airplane? Your best best is to put back on your shoes when you're walking about most especially to the bathroom.

Pilots and flight attendants commuting can sit in the jump seat. They don't even take up a revenue seat. If the company needs to move them they won't even be a standby passenger they'll be a revenue passenger and no one will even know.

I don't care what you do personally, I'm talking about your comparison to homes vs planes. Planes have a completely different set of grossness. Socks is just as gross as barefoot here. You're still picking up stuff. In fact with socks how many people when traveling wash their socks immediately? It means you're potentially getting bodily fluids among other stuff mixed in with your other clothes and shoes now (pick up pee from the floor now you've transferred it to your insoles of your shoes), not to mention if you take off your shoes but leave your socks on or take off the socks but don't wash your feet and then get into your hotel bed--just gross.

my friend's husband is a cop one of the world's largest airports... Many cases where they have to remove people is when there is prescription drugs AND alcohol. Basically people already borderline personality/agresssion wise who are nervous or other reasons and take some pill they normally dont take to chill/relax/sleep ( have a bad reaction) and then have a drink or two or three and then just snap .

these are usually the cases where you see the tic toc videos of people being hog tied and dragged off while mumbling jiberish

Also the US culture is often so that many take personal offense of "rudeness" AND responses. if somebody looks at one the wrong way, mutters something, or saying something they find a tad rude it is personal offense and attack back and thus an exchange starts that can get ugly... Other cultures yes there is "rudeness" but rarely do you see the other respond back or call it out,, the "offended" simply moves on and ignores, brushes off and forgets as making a scene is consider more rude than the original rude offense.

Rule number one NEVER EVER go to the lavatory without any shoes on.

I thought everyone was taught this.

There is no comparison between your bathroom at home and a public and/or airplane bathroom. People urinate all over public bathrooms. They simply do not care because they don't have to clean it and likely won't have to use it again in the immediate future so their mess does not affect them. Add in the super tight space and turbulence of an airplane bathroom and I'm sure there's even more that misses the toilet. The last few times I have had to use one, the floor had puddles of urine like a port-a-potty, so even with socks on one's feet would have been completely soaked.

At my husband's airline, that is called a "must ride" and they are booked for a seat and do not have to sit jump. And, yes, no one will know. If they are just going to work from another location that they were at on their own accord, or non-revving, in general, yes, they can try for the jump seat or the pilot can take the third seat in the cockpit.

There is a story about the former CEO giving up his seat and riding jump so that another passenger wouldn't get bumped. I once had a pilot move from a seat move to the spare seat in the cockpit so I could get on the flight as a non-rev. :)

I work at an historic site and the other day we noticed a woman full on posing in front of one of the buildings so her, I assume DH, could take glamour shots of her. We assumed it was for social media. I didn't notice any filming but the overly posed photos were......strange.
