DVC Dues

can you combine savings? Example ebates do you earn when getting gift cards?

I don't use ebates so I can't answer from experience. But there are a whole bunch of references to ebates in the gift card threads on the Budget Board. Apparently most of the time the answer is supposed to be "no" but sometimes it's "yes". I'd suggest reading over on Budget Board where there are folks far more savvy to ebates. I just do the simple 5% at Target with my Redcard because the rules seem to change on many of the other deals and some folks are getting stuck with hundreds of dollars of Best Buy and other cards they can't convert right now. Lots of conversation right now. A very hot topic.

The fine print for Ebates usually excludes gift card purchases for most retailers. The have become very restrictive with purchases from Target & even exclude toy purchases from their rebates for Target. This is the current list of exclusions for Target: Exclusions: Cash Back is not available on grocery, household commodities and essentials, baby care items (diapers, wipes, food, and toiletries), pet supplies, electronics, toys, sporting goods, movies, video games and consoles, contract mobile phones, prepaid and gift cards, music, books, Target Pharmacy and OTC, Target Photo, Target Optical, Target Café, SweetJOJO, and orders deemed by Target to be for resale.

When warehouse clubs are one of the rotating categories on my credit card (5% cash back) I stock up at Sam's Club where the gift cards are already marked down a few percent.

Good to know. Any other ways to save money that still work. I read on some but they didn't work according to people's reviews.

Just a note to update this thread: Target gift cards can no longer be used to purchase Disney gift cards as of last week.

So that might change some plans for paying DVC dues next year...

Best Buy also closed their loophole recently. Stores used to allow the purchase of Disney GCs even though the corporate rules stated they couldn't. But the mothership started cracking down and people are being denied at the store level.

Your statement is correct. I just wanted to make sure that readers knew that the 5% savings through using the redcard to buy gift cards does still work. You just can't use target giftcards to buy Disney giftcards, which doesn't save you 5% anyway.

My DH will be paying this Dues with his Disney Visa. Is there anything we need to know??. Do we have to call a different #?. TIA

As long as you are paying in full, you can pay dues online using a CC. You can call Member Accounting if you would rather pay by phone (same number as MS, different option on phone menu).

Question on this. If I got a Target Red Card - what, if any, savings would I get on Disney gift cards? And if I'm reading this right, that whole Black Friday gift card bonanza I see on the boards and FB groups is going away (whatever that extra savings was)?

You can no longer use Target gift cards to buy Disney gift cards. Your Target RedCard will get you a 5% discount.

The Target Red Card will sometimes get you a 5% discount, not all the time though. And sometimes you can still buy Disney Gift Cards with Target Gift Cards in store and only if your purchase totals more than your gift card, but again that is only sometimes.

BJs is usually a better value, as there are a few cash back sites that WILL give cash back on Disney Gift Card Purchases. Just watch BJs, as some denominations are a higher percentage off than others.

And you do not have to be a member to buy Disney Gift Cards from them and there is no surcharge.

Interesting, thanks.
I've read BJ terms and conditions and couldn't find anything about required recidency. I live in the UK, can I join as an online member ($10 per year) and buy Disney Gift card? Do they ship anything by post or do they send the GC code via email?

I have always gotten the 5% from the RedCard when purchasing at the store. BJs no longer allows non-members to purchase Disney gift cards :(.
