Am I Up to the Challenge of the 2014 F&WF? Bring on the Food!

WOW! You walked from DHS to the Boardwalk? DH has NEVER been able to persuade me to do that. Well done on managing to hitch a ride on one of those golf cart things. :thumbsup2 ...

.....let me reiterate - I. DID. NOT. WALK.

Take your pick:

1) "run-walk"
2) "jazzercized power-walk"
3) "slow run"
4) "simulated treadmilling"
5) "rapid-fire promenading"

'Now This is More My Speed"

After such a sumptuous feast, we needed to walk off the extra 'poundage', so we decided to amble around Crescent Lake. After all, it was not even 8:30 - too early to return to AKL, and the temperature practically begged us to linger outdoors. As we passed the Beach Club, right around the large yard that housed the gazebo, Jean began to look around and jokingly asked my DH where our friend Alan was, so he could hitch a ride too....:rotfl2:

....we worked our way around the lake, stopping briefly to take in some of the 'local talent':

What a better way to start it !! than enjoying your trippie !!
Awww ! The meal at the Yachtman sounds beautiful and the view ... :cheer2: WOW !! What a night !!
I had to laugh at "the local talent" : it looks like being in our Piazza Duomo , where there are ALWAYS "street artists" ...:rolleyes:
In a few days they will be looking like :santa: !!

Ah, and you and dear husband look GREAT !! One would NOT believe you two have grown-up kids ... One would say that you have to deal with ...:guilty: pre-teen boys !! ::yes::

;)

....I have two great videos on my cell phone but they won't download - my phone keeps telling me that it has to resize. I tried it once already, but it was one-third of the video and it was grainy and pixcillated.....

6) "Other". Because there's ALWAYS an "Other" on the Dis. ;)

Local talent looks great!

I know it's smaller than DTD, but if you're already in the area, the Boardwalk is a great place for a slow stroll and window shopping.

We do that "walk", but on scooters! :moped:............................

So what kind of steaks did you all have? popcorn::

We love our Rib Eyes, and Yachtsman had an awesome one! I don't remember what else we had, but the lobster bisque was quite good, and I know we have other apps.

Strolling around the Boardwalk is great fun! At least you didn't have too much wine for that! The street performers looked like fun!

Now anything else you have to add, please start another post.....:worship: :worship: :worship:

"...a re-cap of the menu..."

.....hmmmm, lemme see if I could remember....I know that Jean-Pierre ordered the lobster bisque, which he commented was excellent; the hearty broth velvety smooth and creamy, with generous portions of lobster meat throughout. The bread was freshly baked, the butter melting upon touching the soft center [BTW, the butter was seasoned and quite tasty!] . John even brought my DH some GF bread with his own serving of butter - great touch! :thumbsup2

Maureen ordered the scallops, Jean the N. Y. strip, Ron indulged in the rib-eye, topped with caramelized onions and the mushrooms, and my plate was the featured 'food porn' - the filet mignon with the mashed potatoes, while the 3 of us shared the truffle mac'n'cheese. I so appreciated John's honesty - that portion was the perfect amount for the 3 of us; any more would definitely have been too much of a good thing.

"....and Wednesday Night Slowly Fades to Black...."

...we hesitated somewhere near ESPN Zone, to listen to the muffled music of Illuminations in the near distance; that wonderment would have to wait for tomorrow....we trudged along, with the inevitable slight effects of the fading residual of the wine, causing more yawns than we would care to admit to...

.....our final view of the Yacht Club as it shrunk in the rear window; our temporary home was not too far away, with our bed beckoning to us...we said our good-byes to our friends under cover of the AKL portico and made our way through the lobby and down Zebra Trail's corridor...tomorrow, we take on the mighty Food & Wine Festival.....who will champion THAT match, I wonder, as I dream of wines to sip and foods to taste....:cloud9:

Holy crap! I just remembered - I didn't get that second dessert! :badpc:

Yawning should not be allowed at WDW.

Looks like you had a great night and dinner. Here's to more food porn at F&W. :thumbsup2

WOW !! SO love this pic !
I SOOOOO wish I could be there NOW !! :woohoo:

HAPPY DREAMS and waiting for more ... popcorn::popcorn::

THIS........is fantastic! Great TR so far, kimmar!! Keep it coming. popcorn::

Now I want to stay at AKL again.... ::sigh:: Funny, I found a rare empty lounge chair by the pool in the same area you did. I then lay down and pondered how much flamingos sound like geese.

Sorry about your non-walk from DHS to the YC. I love that pathway!

Loving all the pics, too! :thumbsup2

"...I'm in the Mood for Food...and Wine....is there a Festival Nearby?"

....nothing better than enjoying a cup of coffee first thing in the morning on a balcony at Animal Kingdom Lodge. However while it is ever-so-tempting to just stay and enjoy the tranquility, we're on a mission: to sample as many countries as we can, PLUS taking part in a deminar, PLUS dinner reservations at Rose and Crown, so relaxation time is over....

....since this day was going to be our "eat-like-there's-no-tomorrow-and-fill-up-while-you-can" day we weren't especially interested in experiencing all the rides of the Futureworld part of Epcot, but World Showcase was yet to open, so we ventured beneath the giant golfball and quickly joined the line for EE.

....we had noticed that both resorts and parks alike had more than their fair share of Brits and the family in front of us was no exception. I innocently expressed my observation to the lovely young couple; they quickly answered that indeed, it was a 'Holiday' week for schoolchildren of England - in particular, London. The light conversation made the time pass quickly and we soon found ourselves boarding the never-ending assembly line of seats accessed by the moving platform. Once outside, we made our way through Innoventions, finding ourselves in the vicinity of Mission: Space, but sadly it was not to be. Not to fear, we decided on Test Track, compliments of those 'extra-special' fastpassess I had mentioned in an earlier post. [Maureen didn't care to ride, so Jean used the Single-Rider line]....we were in and out again in under 20 minutes:

20141030_105209_zps9b0f5074.jpg

After a quick jaunt to the restroom, I suggested we visit the F&WF Welcome Center to check in and receive our our entrance tickets and World Showcase Food Passports for later in the day - I am so glad that I did, because when we returned for that deminar, the poor CM was inundated with guests trying to secure their tickets, and it was getting ugly....in all fairness to the lovely CM, it would have made sense to have had her assisted by 2 or 3 more people, to accommodate the widening irate line of people...just before leaving we thought it prudent to visit the Ghirardelli area, where free samples of the chocolate-y confection were being doled out by the fistfuls - YUM!

In the open air once again, our next destination was World Showcase, but not before stopping to enjoy the crazy antics of those wacky guys, the Jammiters, who were appropriately dressed as chefs...and now, let the tasting commence!

"Where to Begin? Why Not Begin at the Beginning...?"

Armed with my passport, we headed for the nearest kiosk - Scotland. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I think of fine cuisine, Scotland is definitely NOT one of those countries that screams out "fabulous dining". In fact, just the opposite - I envisioned HAGGIS, and I've never even seen haggis before, but I can say with unabashed positivity, I have no desire to try haggis in any way, shape, or form. Well, lucky for us, it was not on the menu, so we opted instead for the salmon with herbed sour cream. We had made a pact of sorts, that we would share our bounty. This way, we could sample more types of what the F&WF had to offer without breaking the bank. Besides, armed with 8 snack credits we were well on our way. We decided to accompany it with the scallops. Just as I had suspected, both were okay, but I've had better. Of course, if this was the route we were taking, we had to really stick with Gluten-Free samples only, so we ventured right past Hawaii [hey, you've seen one pineapple, you've seen them all...] and the Champagne kiosks and made a bee-line towards Puerto Rico. The tostones was a hefty portion (one for each of the four of us) and a pair of those delightful San Juan Breezes. The temperature by now had reached 82 degrees, and boy, did those drinks go down so easily!
