This is absolutely horrifying and heartbreaking. The first thing my own kids do when they enter a new classroom, is look for exit points. I don’t feel safe sending my kids to school, but I send them.
We had a lock down at school last month. I was on one side of the campus with my class and my daughter was on the other (that faces the front of the school). And for context, we have one story pod like buildings, not a single building with hallways. I got a text from her that said “I’m scared. And I want you to know I love you”. I have never felt so helpless in my life. Not only as a mother, but in my job of keeping my students safe.
