Commissary shopping for Aulani supplies

Has anyone tried out the commissary as a shopping option? We were planning on going to Costco but then someone recommended since we were military that we should shop on base as all the prices are protected from the island increase. Wasn't sure if this was difficult.

Getting in and out of Hickum/Pearl is really quick and easy from the airport on the way west towards Aulani. The BX is right there two for souvenirs on the way out too.

Thank you! We may not be able to go on our way to Aulani so how long would you estimate it would be to get back to from the hotel if making a trip the next day? I have been hearing so many things about traffic I have been a bit scared.
