My DH(34) and DD(10) went to Discovery Cove on 5/12 and the big question in my mind was, would it be worth it?
Well, yes it was for those two in our family. My daughter watches Animal Planet every day, dreams of being a vet/paleontologist, so it was a wise choice for her to do the dolphin swim, even at 200 bucks.
You are locked into spending extra money if you want photos of you with your dolphin. The water cameras are not allowed in that area.
THE WATER TEMP IS AT 55 DEGREES FOR THE SWIM--not for the faint of heart. I could not do that, nor did I know that. They could have worn the wet suits, but still, 55 degrees, brrrrrr
I would have NEVER enjoyed that swim.
DH said it was one of the hardest things he has done in a while, but after spending 200 for himself, he took the plunge.
Finally, lunch was free but it was my understanding that it was a really nice, really well prepared food type lunch. It was hot dogs and chips. I told my husband I had read he would get some nice seafood or meat type dish lunch. He lost no time in informing me it was just hot dogs.
Also, they were the first ones at the park that day because we had heard an early swim was the best, and it is first come first serve. (they beat most of the employees) Not true, when my husband checked in, they told him his swim time was scheduled already for 2:30. He balked, and they did give him an earlier time of 9:30.
It was worth it for these two, but I am SOOOO glad my 5 year old son and myself decided on another day at Universal/IOA instead.
I also wish I had scheduled time for DD and DH to take advantage of the SeaWorld access that comes with DC. DC closed at 5, and they went over to Sea World and did as much as they could in 2 hours (Krakken, Shamu show, couple other things, no time for Journey to Atlantis, 1 hour wait) They should have done that instead of GATORLAND (I would rather have my thumbs smashed with a hammer than go there again!)
