We just got back from a three night cruise in the Dream. Our first cruise ever and we loved it! We have two kids, DD18 and DS15. We want to book another cruise and are looking at Dec 14, 2019 on the Fantasy. Eastern Caribbean. While looking we stumbled across a Sympony of the Seas cruise for the same date. The price is much cheaper. Which cruise would you do and why? Just looking for a variety of opinions to supplement our research so we can make an informed decision! Thanks!

Symphony of the Seas is brand new. We are sailing on her in January. I would definitely book her. A much larger ship with more to do.

Always the tough question. For me, I would always advocate trying another line just to see if you like it, or if you still like DCL better, if the difference in price is worth it for you to break from DCL.

For me, it’s sort of the opposite as I try other lines to see if I can break away from RCI. I really do want to give Princess another go, pretty sure I’ll enjoy it. DCL wasn’t for me though. The DIS DCL board though - right up my alley.

We LOVE the Oasis class Ships (Oasis, Allure, Harmony, and Symphony). There is a lot to do and so many dining options. Shows are very good as well. In most circumstances - hands down, I'd choose the Symphony (and we are looking at her for early 2019). However your cruise date is Dec. 14th, which means it will be a Very Merrytime Cruise on Disney. If you love all things Christmas, you will love that cruise. The ship is beautifully decorated, there is a huge gingerbread house, the characters are dressed in their finest, there is a Christmas party in the atrium with carolers, the characters and Santa that ends with snow. Activities include making ornaments and decorating your own gingerbread house. You will see couples and families having photos taken in their ugly Christmas sweaters and even Christmas pajamas. If none of that sounds appealing, Symphony all the way!

I'd check the links below and read up on the activities for the cruises that should be very close to the two you are looking at.

I've been on Allure and have Symphony booked for next year. Have also been on Disney Magic, 2 other Royal ships, and have 2 other Royal cruises booked.
Every family is different, but with teenagers, to me its a no brainier. Symphony is the newest Royal ship with all the bells and whistles and seems perfect for their age group (well, even our kids 10 and 6 loves Allure, the sister ship). There is so much to do from rock wall, zipline, flowrider, dry slide, waterslides, sports court, mini golf...teen club, movies at night, and other organized activities. Then the shows are amazing form Aqua show, a Broadway show (haven't seen Hairspray yet but Royal if up to Mamma Mia standards then can't go wrong), an ice show, and the new Flight show is supposed to be super impressive. Then for food, there are so many options. And the Oasis class themselves are unique with Boardwalk, Central Park and just the general ambiance. I'm Royal biased but would choose Symphony...and you are even saying it costs much less which is a factor too when they are both high quality.

Fantasy: aquaduck, mini golf, mda, characters...

Symphony: multiple water slides, the abyss, carousel, laser tag, flow riders, rock walls, ice skating, mini golf...

All of which, on both ships, are included in the cruise fair.

If your looking for teens clubs, both lines use the same games/ideas although Disney's does look fancier.

I have been on two RC cruises and 2 Norwegian in addition to 6 across Disney (all 4 ships). Prefer Disney hands down. You pay a premium, but I feel the price difference is worth it. My husband and kids love movies and we watch a ton of them on Disney ships, both in rooms and in the theater. The theater shows in Disney are hands down better; much less cheesy, to use my husbands words. You may pay more up front for the cruise, but your dining options are wider. On the Norwegian Cruise I am on right now, we are basically limited to the buffet or one dining room for dinner (the other dining room has a dress code and my husband and teenage boys didn’t bring any long pants). There are many other dining rooms to chose from , but they all have an up charge. I miss the counter service options Disney has. Also, as a vegetarian, I am struggling with the buffet. I also miss the drink station on the deck. I know that even if I pay for the drinks, it is still less than Disney, but I don’t want to whip out my card all the time and wait for the waiter. I don’t want to buy a drink package and carry a cup all day either.

We don’t gamble and we really are not drinkers either. I hate walking through the casino and avoiding the people who are trying their best to get the most out of their drink package. Also, I don’t think it sets a good example for my kids when the cruise director and performers talk all the time about drinking and alcohol. I’ve always been bothered by that on our other cruises.

We did a sunrise tour in Haleakala last night and so decided to sleep after we got back to the boat and then just be mellow. There is nothing to do. We were able to find seats in the shade at the pool though!

My teenage sons love the teen rooms on Disney and have not enjoyed them on RC or Norwegian. Too little supervision and fewer planned group activities. My 10 year old daughter does not like the lab/club on Disney and is happier in the smaller rooms in the other lines. They may have more activities on the huge RC ships, but there are long lines and they are each offered for only a few hours a day.

On the other cruises, we have often found the comedian to be more entertaining because they aren’t shackled as much by the Disney sensors.

In the end, as other posters have said on other threads, it really is a personal choice. I find that the quality across the board is much higher on everything on Disney. I work hard and when I go on vacation I want to relax and be taken care of. I ALWAYS feel that way on Disney and not so on other lines. It is for that reason that I always book my next cruise on the ship. I’ve done suite level in the other lines and have not felt the same level of customer service I get on Disney.

On this current cruise for the itinerary-Hawaii.

Symphony. It's brand new (won't even arrive in Florida until this fall) and you'll be amazed on how much there is to do on it.

Have cruised Disney 8 times and am currently on the Anthem of the Seas right now. Wanted to try because DS19 has aged out of the teen club. But we asked him and he said next time back to Disney even though there will be less for him to do. We all miss the Disney service and magic. There is a difference in what you pay for.

Oh my. You cannot even compare the Pride to the Symphony!! And I'm curious what RCI ships you have sailed. We've obviously had different experiences. I think the shows on Disney (with the exception of the made-from-movies shows) are terribly cheesy. We don't even go to them anymore. The shows on RCI Oasis class are ALL family friendly and very good as well (excluding the later adults only shows obviously). (I will say that for the most part there aren't enough shows on NCL.) Your free dining options on Disney are no where near what they are on the RCI Oasis class ships. Disney basically has a single dining room and Cabanas (no buffet) for dinner. (Although you change dining rooms - there still is only that one option each night). My 9 year old is a vegetarian and the options on Disney were horrible for her. She can't wait to have buffet options on upcoming cruises! We don't drink or gamble either and we never need to walk through a casino. The pool on Disney is shameful. And there aren't many "active" activities. We avoid cruising in the peak of summer which may be why you experienced long lines? Fortunately we've not had that issue. Choosing a cruise really comes down to what works for each individual family and in the end only that family knows that. Hope you're enjoying Hawaii... I would like to do Hawaii by cruise (and only want to do a week cruise) but didn't want to go with NCL.

We did the Allure after DCL and our boys loved it. I wouldn't mind doing the Harmony or Symphony but I couldn't justify the additional cost over the Allure, but they're both cheaper than DCL!

I think I got a super deal! Our 7 night Harmony in Nov. is less expensive than the 6 night Allure (same week, both ocean view balcony). I waited a lot of years to go on the Oasis because it was more than I wanted to spend. But I was hooked after that!
