We have been swimming. and swimming. and swimming.
I'm almost done my vacay fund for our fall trip out west, just 2 more weeks til it's done. Next goal is a Christmas fund of $5k. There is usually $ leftover but I like having it so I don't add to my holiday stress. The leftover is a bonus addition to the next goal in line which will a new/new for me car, hopefully by the end of the year.
Ds graduated HS and at graduation received a Character Education award with a check for $250. His Community Service teacher gave a speech about all the nice things he has done for the school: sanding/painting picnic tables, gardening, and overall go-to guy for anything electrical or mechanical. He also attended many times to a cemetery to clean up a sadly, "forgotten" cemetery for civil war heroes. He also attended a "soup kitchen" at a very poor city nearby to make sandwiches and give out meals to the poor.
omg, by the time she was done going on and on about all the good he has done, I was crying.
So so happy to have gotten it all on video. I'd rather not post bc it mentions teachers names specifically and shows others students.
Anyway, he went through a really rough time in 9th-11th grade and really put dh and I through the wringer. It was like some alien abducted our sweet boy and left in his place a mean, selfish, lying, stealing, evil pr*ck in his place. He has come so far since then and this speech just reminded me how far he has come.
Sure he still leaves dirty plates in his room for days, dirty clothes on the floor but I take comfort in knowing he has a good, kind heart which is a far more important trait, imo. Being cleaner will improve when he gets his own place, or at least I tell myself it will. lol.
He had his wisdom teeth pulled around 10 days ago. Thank God that's over with. He did well but after choosing my vacation week (back in Dec) to coincide with his graduation and having time off to take him and help him as needed with recovery, later his bff offered to drive ds with him to the camp they like if he chose this week. It's a 4.5 hr drive each way so having his friend drive them there so that we don't have to sounded wonderful. It saves us from taking him ourselves, check in, kiss goodbye, and turn around and drive back 4.5 hrs!
I was so hoping he wouldn't have any complications that would ruin/cancel camp for him and glad it all worked out. He didn't want it done really but his impacted teeth were pushing on the rest and would eventually ruin all the alignment his braces created so no point in ruining that time, money & pain for braces. Also our insurance covers it 100%, just $25 copay for the consultation. If he waits til he has a problem and NEEDS them out asap, his own insurance some day would most likely not cover it as much. Of course he doesn't quite believe all of this but hopefully when he's older, some day he'll agree that it's better to be proactive than reactive.
They left for camp this morning and he's feeling great so as long as they get there safely
, it's all good.
In our 100 degree heatwave, a fuse blew on our AC yesterday. By the time we realized the AC wasn't running, it was approx 80 degrees. Dh doesn't do HVAC but he has some knowledge about a lot of trades and has an ohm tester and could tell that the 2 fuses showed a different reading. Not knowing exactly what it should read, he couldn't tell which was the faulty one but by luck
he had 2 spares and changed them both. By then it was 86 indoors!
His bff is in the business and installed the unit and probably has a guy on call but we didn't want to bother them unless we really had to. So glad it was something dh could fix! I made him go to Lowe's and buy 2 more fuses to keep handy. I set it to hold temp at 68 and woke up freezing.
I will never, ever complain again about all the crap dh stores in the garage.
