Desert Rose - area behind Tropicana

We are going down to LV for a wedding in December and were previously booked to stay at Harrah's. Now that there are more of us going, we are looking at the Desert Rose, which is a resort with suites, including kitchens and living rooms, etc at an affordable price. They are also fully smoke-free and casino-less, which is preferable to some in our party. There is also a breakfast included, nothing fabulous, but something to get the day started.

Overall, it sounds great and those who report on TripAdvisor must agree, as it is ranked #7 out of 283 LV hotels.

Just wondering if anyone has stayed there and even if you haven't, what do you know about that area? I have a co-worker that questioned the safety of the area - back behind Tropicana and Hooters. It looks like a short walk to the strip, but if that 'short walk' isn't safe ... we'll either rethink making a reservation, or just always take cabs (which is not ideal). TIA.

This is a fantastic place, this is the place we always stay. They have one and two bedrooms , with full kitchen and all cooking stuff. They havea laundry area. You get a breakfast every day. They have a swimming pool and jacuzzi. They also have BBQS. The area is very safe and quiet. Plus it is walking distance to the strip. If have more questions let me know.

Sounds like a good family place. I would love to see your photos - thanks!:goodvibes

We like the DR very much. We tend to go with our kids so we prefer a place without a casino, being smoke free just adds to the appeal. Nice rooms, nice staff, close to the strip, it was a great place to stay.

I thought I had pictures loaded and I couldn't find any. Well now I know, I will take a ton next round.

Wow. Good to know:thumbsup2

There is a dinette next to the living room, plus there is a patio area. They provide a laundry basket, iron , and a safe

We're back - and Desert Rose was a wonderful place to stay! :)

It was a great "home base" for us. The suites are very relaxing and there is plenty of space - which we loved. It's nice to be together, but then it's nice to not have to be TOGETHER all of the time! :goodvibes

We had relatives at New York, New York, Harrah's and Treasure Island - and we are quite certain that we had the most relaxing atmosphere - and breakfast too! They were quite jealous of that.

No, it's not right in the middle of all of the LV activity, but then, in our eyes, that was a benefit. Nice to go back to the home base, relax, and then return to the activity. They say it's only 1.5 blocks from the strip, but their city blocks are HUGE. Depending on what you consider "a block", think more like 3-5. We had elderly grandparents with us, so it was a bit taxing on them.

The negative I can think of is the pillows - they are HUGE. It felt like I had a brick under my head. I ended up rolling up a towel and using that instead. FYI, all the bedrooms come with feather pillows, but fiberfill pillows are available too (and they are just as thick).

Don't know if we'll be back to LV or not (probably not, there are so many other places to go to, that it is unlikely), but if we ever do, we would most certainly stay at Desert Rose again.

I booked our 2 bedroom suite at DS months ago (no money down, just a cc on file) and then since we were on their email list, they sent us a a Black Friday special - which was the equivalent of a getting one of our three nights for free!

I am happy to hear you liked it. It is our only go to place. I bring my own pillow from since we drive.

Did you guys feel safe walking back there from the strip late at night?

We drive as well so we take our own pillows. We walked back at night with the kids and felt perfectly safe, we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

we are looking at stay there at end of April. we have time share points to use up. It's here or Club 36 which is Bluegreen and further down the street.
There will be 6 of us. we may be able to get a 2 bedroom as well as a 1 bedroom for a few nights. It's my husband's 40th birthday.
