DH asked if we could go somewhere else other than WDW next year so I of course suggested Disneyland LOL..he did not go for it.....where do you all go during your "off" disney trips.....for me what I would miss most (other than magic and pixie dust) are the grandure and themes of the resorts...thanks in advance for your help.

This happened to us this past May. DH called me from work and said that he needed a vacation soon. Of course, I immediately thought Disney World, but he said not this time. He wanted something relaxing. So what do you do when you can't go to the parks, book a Disney cruise of course. It was one of our most magical vacations, relaxing, but still Disney.

Disneyland-sounds like a reasonable idea to me! When my DH insists on somewhere other than WDW, I "let" him go to HH-Disney's resort of course. My out is that I always plan the trips, so we go DIsney places. If he wants to go anywhere else, HE can start planning. When he learns how much work planning is (but for me, a labor of love), he lets me plan our Disney trips.

My DH does this after every trip. He always tells me we need a 1-2 yr break. Never ends up happening. I drop Disney in discussion w/ him altogether for awhile. Then after 3-4 months I bring it up again. Let's see we went 10/03- he said no more for a yr or 2. I then got him to go 3/04. Once again-- he said this time was really it-- well-- you can see my countdown clock!!

Anyhow, I think one of the big things that really helps is we take 1-2 other trips per year too. This year we did VA beach and Lake Placid for camping. 2 things he really wanted to do. It's kind of a trade off.

Unfortunately my hubby is the same way but mostly due to costs as we fly and there are 6 of us. We are not rich people by any means. Our last trip was in 2000. For off years we go to: Colorado, Missouri, Texas (Seaworld), Branson (Silver dollar city). We always have a blast!

There are vacations outside of Disney?? LOL. Luckily for me my fiance is a Disney lover too.

We have been to New Orleans, which is quite "decorated". It is an exiciting town, not Disney, but nice. I would suggest staying at the Hilton Riverside. It has beautiful views and is within walking distance of all the main attractions. Like the aquarium, the zoo, Harrah's casino, great restaurants. You can also take a Trolly to get around.

Tell your DH to talk to all of us on the boards. We'll convince him to do the right thing. LOL!!

we do a "big" trip (disney) every few years w/smaller trips tossed in... our next smaller trip is to lancaster, pennsylvania... a great place to visit, lots to do, but it's not disney nor do we pretend it is! LOL! we've been to other parts of pa (poconos)... montauk, new york... maryland/dc... canada... upstate new york (lake george)...

My DH is also the same way. He tells me we are going somewhere else next trip and I just agree. Then I told him HHN is a different thing which we have never been to.:p so he agreed as you an see my countdown. I just wish they open another park soon or I will have run out of excuses!!!!!

I had the same problem, except it was with DCL. We went on 3 DCL within 16 months. When I went to plan our next vacation, DH said he was all "cruised" out and wanted to do something else. So, I planned a 12 night trip to US/WDW and we had a blast. We ended up going to US again that year. I tried to get DH to agree to another DCL this year, but he said no. So, I told him come "HELL OR HIGH WATER OR HURRICANES" we're going on DCL next year and that I booked us for Nov 2005. He said that was fine. Our twins turned 6 this year and I told DH in a few more years we can start alternating our trips to more educational places like Washington DC, Boston, the Grand Canyon, etc, but for now the kids are little and wouldn't appreciate those places. On our quick getaways we go to the Wisconsin Dells-they have some of the biggest and best outside and inside water parks in the USA with all the cheesey (pardon the Wisconsin pun) touristy attractions!:Pinkbounc

If you are interested in the beach, you may want to check into Myrtle Beach, SC. IMO, it is the ultimate beach resort. They have lots of themed restaurants, dinner shows, and great shopping. There is quite a few nice resorts. We live in Florida, and when we want to enjoy the beach and be entertained we go there. :) I've been having this problem with my DH & DS(12) for a few years now. I've found that if I don't compromise and go somewhere else with them occasionally, then I don't enjoy WDW, because they're not happy. Unhappy DH's are no fun to go anywhere with. :( If we do alternate these trips with others, he's goes out of his way to allow me to enjoy WDW, because he knows that it's his turn next time. :)

I think after this next year my DH will be 'disneyed' out. :( We have managed to go other places like New Hampshire and San Diego and they have been fun. I will miss going to Disney after 2005......hmmmm....I need to think up new reasons for us to go!

Do you have children coming on this trip? That would make a huge difference in my choice of vacation destinations. Without kids, I'd say go to Vegas! I had a blast there without gambling a single cent. There is a ton of stuff to do and lots of theming and grandure. If you are going with kids, DCL would be great. Myrtle Beach is really fun as another poster mentioned. There are so many options out there. I enjoy WDW, but when DD outgrows it, there will be so many other great vacations we can take.

Leigh,

That was us this year. I wanted to do something other than disney. So, in between all those hurricanes (it was smooth sailing on the Atlantic), we cruised to Bermuda. Sorry to say, but it was BETTER than Disney. It had been 12 years since I had been to an island. I forgot how beautiful islands are!!

The best part was that the cruise left right out of Bayonne, NJ and it's cheaper than flying to Florida and taking the Disney cruise.

We are going to WDW next month but I have a feeling we won't be back for quite a while. My girls are 8 and 11 and they want to cruise again.

However, since you live near us - have you ever been to the Adirondack Mountains? Lake George is beautiful. My BIL lives there so we go there every year. One year we left Lake George and spent 3 days in Montreal. That was a great trip too.

i am so glad that my dh is just as much of a disney fanatic as i am... you can see our resort history list down below. we go all the time. so, we can't afford to be anything else besides passholders. that is kinda what we tell ourselves. we don't have to pay to get in the parks, just for our food and stay.:yo-yo:

but since we just got married at the end of may, for our 2 week honeymoon we went for a week to nyc, and then a week in disney. it was so nice. :hyper:

so, NYC was the last place that we went that was not disney.

good luck on the planning!
