Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

Well, lots of dinosaur fossils have been found in South America. With some minor changes, it could still work.
Maybe. To me, it sounds pretty forced, but sometimes Disney works wonders. I mentioned it previously, but I could see Disney creating something like an extinct land where people could see and learn about extinct animals like dinosaurs and have dinosaur rides. The problem is that it would probably mostly end up being dinosaurs & ice age animals with some dodos thrown in for good measure. It would be a weird combo! I'm glad it seems they're going with Tropical Americas.

I wouldn't get my hopes up that WDI will keep the Dinosaur attraction. Everything seems to be pointing to an Indiana Jones retheme. We won't know until it's official, but brace yourself!

I still like my idea of "Indiana Jones and the Forgotten Valley" or something like that, where an archeological dig in South America leads to a finding of dinosaurs. Then they can reuse some things too.

I like it, too! The concept art showed what looked to be a Mayan temple/pyramid, though. At the least I would like to see some homages to Dinosaur...

The Disneysea version of the ride takes place in an Aztec temple so maybe Disney is taking notes from that version of the ride? Even the Lost River Delta area of the park has a very central/South American theme to the architecture.

Bare with me here while I spitball. I’m thinking a dinosaur themed ride that takes part on a Costa Rican island where dinosaurs have been bred by splicing in frog DNA. The ride cart could be an SUV, it would be amazing. Let’s do this Disney!

As long as they "spare no expense".. and don't hire a guy who looks like Newman from Seinfeld. He'll make a mess of things!

Ha! Someone else owns the IP for that. Send them your notes, maybe they'll fix the current attraction

Disney Rolls Out 75 Minutes of Sneak-Peek Footage at CinemaCon

After an uncharacteristically uneven year at the box office, Disney came to CinemaCon 2024 with a clear strategy in mind for its presentation: just let the cameras roll.

Extended sneak peeks defined Thursday afternoon’s presentation, with 75 minutes of sneak peek footage from films across the studio’s slate, highlighted by a whopping 35 minutes of this summer’s Pixar sequel “Inside Out 2,” along with sneak peeks of films like “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Moana 2,” and “Alien: Romulus,” among others.

It’s a double-down on a strategy that Disney has taken in CinemaCon past, largely eschewing the banter between filmmakers and actors to dedicate more presentation time to showing exhibitors more of what’s going to be in their theaters.

The longest portion of onstage banter came from Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, who talked to the crowd without a teleprompter about the studio’s upcoming releases, with the help of “Captain America: Brave New World” star Anthony Mackie and “Deadpool & Wolverine” director Shawn Levy. Dwayne Johnson also appeared to show the opening song from “Moana 2.”

Disney blasted to the top of the box office market share charts in the late 2010s with a murderer’s row of tentpoles that brought audiences in all over the world. But in 2023, that excellent track record gave way to a far bumpier year as hits like “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and comeback stories like “Elemental” were interspersed with high-budget flops like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” “The Marvels” and “Wish.”

Ironically, despite those flops, Disney still had the second-highest market share in 2023 with $1.44 billion in North America, showing how integral even a diminished Mouse House is for a theatrical market that is still quite a ways away from where it was prior to the pandemic.

But until it can get there, the film industry is turning to Disney — and especially Marvel — to provide the consistent jolt of tentpole support it once provided to the box office every two months or so. Due to strike delays, Disney pulled entirely out of the Q1 2024 slate, and for the first time in more than a decade, it will not have a Marvel film ready for release in the first weekend of May.

But “Deadpool & Wolverine” will be one of the top contenders for the title of summer’s highest grossing film when it hits theaters in late July, and the studio will be hoping for a rebound in family turnout with the release of “Inside Out 2” in June and “Moana 2” at Thanksgiving.

Right & it’s back to the money issue. Basically it appears to me that they want ppl with disabilities to PAY for genie plus too.
The problem with this, which has been pointed out numerous times on the disability thread, is those who are neurodivergent have a really hard time with "do this at this time within an hour" which is probably why those on the specrtum were specifically pointed out as an example of those who would still qualify for DAS. DD is considered "high functioning" autistic, she has a specified time every day to shower. If she is 15 minutes late from that exact time because she got distracted, then suddenly the whole evening is ruined (in her mind), nothing can be done, and at least an hour long meltdown is what I can usually expect. DAS allows you to hold onto your ride reservation for as long as you need, the lack of pressure and increased flexibility to control your schedule is everything to someone like her.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, they should implement the non expiring time into Genie+, I understand it makes operations less efficient, but I believe it would also have people using up less ride reservations because the parent that needs to take a break with the baby can assure their 6 year old they'll still get to ride big thunder because the reservation isn't going anywhere.
