Next Saturday is the 5 year anniversary of the Savage Sisters adopting Lucille and I . Five days later we took them on their 1st camping trip ( We told them they were going ADVENTUREING ) Details of that trip can be found in the Thread Sky and Katie Go Adventureing for the First Time 19 Aug 2016. Well this Thursday we will return to the same Campground. Priora to the S. S.'s this was a favorite location for us. It is less than 3 hours from home , it's amenities are adequate , and the themed weekends add to a festive weekend get away. The year before due to work considerations we pulled out on the Day Jimmy Buffet Cheeseburger In Paradise weekend kicked off and people looked at us like we were nuts. So for 2016 we booked it early and as luck would have it this was the weekend.
We haven't been back since then for a variety of reasons. First amongst them being no Dog Park. I check every year and the dog park they were building in 2017 still hasn't come to be. It was on that very first trip Sky let us know that. Invariably that location will be some place far removed from our site. Outside of that they took to Adventuring from the word go. They also let more of their personalities come out.

Happy gotcha day. So glad you were able to rescue them.
That rescue went both ways. Four nights earlier our Maggie had a heart attack with out a warning. WookieBear was lost without her Little Sister , Lucille and I were not far behind. So when we went to "LOOK" the die was pretty much cast. Katie came in first to the meet room and ignored us but snuggled up to THE Wookie right off the bat. Sky wouldn't come out of her cubicle for the girl that worked there but climbed right into my arms. That her head markings are identical to My ROOKIE's ( the dog I literally grew up with ) had nothing to do with it.

During that 1st adventure the "Kids" as we called them in those early day revealed a great deal of their personalities . Sky was shy and leery of new people and places. She was much happier with both Lucille and I around and with Katie and WookieBear with her, she would put up a very brave front.
Katie was the opposite. She was ready to charge headlong into anything. Treks to EXPLORE THE WILDERNESS were right up her alley. Even if after a bit she thought it would be more fun if after she practiced her Combat Low Crawl if I carried her. They must have taken a lot out of her because this was her waiting for dinner after one of our trekschowhound.jpeg
Of course she let us know her Commando Skills also extended to her new favorite ride , a golf cart

Sky preferred to ride up front with us and wasn't thrilled the band and no Parrot Head Music at the concertsky rider.jpg

So we got here today at around 3 pm in part due to some unexpected delays on our part and some heavier than anticipated traffic on a road that is normally low volume on a Thursday. I was sure when I made the reservation I had reserved a Golf cart. Mostly as I know Lucille can't walk . But according to the front desk NO. As we are a 4 day stay we moved to top of wait list. Got to our site Nice location and next to field that Sky likes to go in. So a win. As I walked around setting my Jack Blocks I see the electrical connection to our Dingy had separated and had road rash leaving it unusable. AMAZON is my friend, hopefully.

Last night no dice with AMAZON but should be waiting on us when we get home from BLUE OX.
The Girls had us up at 6am . Apparently the people pulling out then posed a serious threat to us and needed to warned off. Sky was very happy to drag me through the field with taller grass that glistened with the morning dew and. then do her thing ad we came back opposite the coach.
Today will go see updates they have done here. and find out what they do for Western Weekend in May and get pictures for our friends Brandon and Sandy so they can make a decision about coming with us

While this place has a corral and is set up for safer spectator rodeo events the loss of the their resident Horse and Riding Trainer activities for that weekend have become more mundane.
I spent some time yesterday walking the grounds and checking out many of the changes they have made since our last visit. The small section of new sites are very nice, The kids play ground has been nicely expanded and the bounce pad now is fenced in. Only the Splash Pad is closed due to covid.
The General Use Open Air Pavilion has been finished and if todays rain persists I suspect that is where todays activities will happen.
Last nights dinner in keeping with the theme for the weekend was Skewered Shrimp on the Barbie, Scallops wrapped in Bacon and some stir fried rice with shrimp and sausage.. Sorry no Food Porn But after I cook it I just want to eat it.
The Girls must have known it was going to rain as they wanted to go out and EXPLORE THE WILDERNESS 3 times between they woke me up at 6 and 10. They barely let me make todays Bacon Scrapple and Eggs. With the high number of people that left ( I assume weather related) Hoping to get a call soon that a golf cart has become available

Yesterday was a wash the rain started at 10 am and continued till about 11 pm. There was a brief reprieve from 2 till 3: 30 when none fell. So I took full advantage of that with The Girls. The rest of the day required changes of pants shoes and socks for me. The roads most of the day were akin to a wading stream and the field were most people walk dogs was a giant puddle just shy of grass high deep. In honesty the news this morning reported that 2.5 inches fell yesterday
The party the CG hosts this weekend turned out to be pretty much a bust. The free Burgers and fries were mediocre at best. The Band was a no show and the speaker system in the pavilion needs a bit of fine tuning to be used as a stereo. We respectfully came back early

Funny thing about the weather. Everyone complains about it but nobody does anything about it.
Sunday was a better weather day. Sun didn't come out till late in the day. We had heavy overcast conditions all day and high humidity but no rain. With out a golf cart Lucille and I did go tour new sites on foot They are next to fiels everyone uses to walk their dogs. Next year we are looking to book in there for our stays there. Then we toured area's next to the bay. Green Head flies too prevalent for us. Still despite NO DOG PARK yet we will likely book 2 or 3 stays next year.
I even think with a little work it could be a option for a regional Dis Meet

Monday was pack up for home. Quick trip only 3 hours but still hate to make it. This time it was a bit more trying. Having time to spend walking around with Katie will take on a new meaning after we get home.
We noticed right after The Dismeet Katie was very reluctant to do the stairs at night and was only going off the deck XRAYS and what we were afraid off was now in front of us. She has severe Dysplasia of her left hip to the point that she no longer has a socket for the joint and the Ball of her Femur from rubbing was distorted. Her kneecap was also slipping out of place from this as well.
Tuesday we left for PA and her scheduled surgery. They would remove the ball and neck from her femur and somehow reattach her muscles to pull her leg in closer to create a false joint. They would also shape her kneecap so it stays in place.

Over all Surgery was a success. She hobbles around pretty well with little evidence of pain and both our regular Vet and the surgeon feel she will get along just fine for years to come. The stairs still pose a problem so she gets a towel sling so I can help her get up and down easier at least for next 2 weeks when she starts rehab.

So glad to hear surgery was successful. I am one to say it is amazing what dogs can do. Please give her some big hugs and pets from me. Give them to sky to, but don’t tell her who they came from.

Will do Kris. But trust me both of them are getting extra spoiling. Sky when Katie Has her tire on ( We replaced her cone of shame for everyone's comfort) is scared of her.
I use a towel as a sling to help up Katie and down the deck stairs for now and
walk with her as a just in case. She loves that since she is confined to downstairs I am on the couch . She checks on me 2 or 4 times a night to make sure the ALIENS haven't abducted me. During the day they are both on me like white on rice

Collar of shame. The incision is smaller than I expected. Hoping for many more years even if a little slower.

I am so glad she is on the mend. The Vet did a nice job on those stitches.
